Our guests have memories that last a lifetime. One of the best locations on Tybee. Private and convenient. Summer weeks filling up fast. Saturday to Saturday stays required for June and July.

Our renovated 1930 Tybee cottage is one of the few private cottages available to rent on the south end. From our lot, it is one hundred steps to the dunes. It is great for families. The home is on a private lane with absolutely no traffic. Small children love playing in the tidal pools on the beaches on this end of the island. Sunsets over Little Tybee are amazing.

Unique for Tybee, the home comes with an extra lot to give kids more room to play. The extra lot also offers plenty of parking for a group getaway to the beach. House layout perfect for families with a family suite, play rooms and plenty of games. The location allows you to park your car and never drive again. Short walk to restaurants or just to get a snow cone. Call 912-433-4713 or email us at if you have questions. Check out our Reviews!

The home is large enough for several families. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms with queen beds. The 'sun room' is a great place to gather as a group and includes a piano. It also has a queen sofa bed. In addition, there is a dining room off the kitchen, as well as a kitchen eating area with enough room to seat 12 for dinner. A perfect place for everyone to share their day over a great meal.

Downstairs there is a separate bedroom suite with a private bathroom, queen bed and two twin beds. The suite opens up to the back deck. The queen bed is separated from the twin beds with a privacy curtain. Downstairs also includes a play room, foosball game, another queen bed, extra 1/2 bath and laundry room. In addition, there is an outside private shower.

We love to entertain, so there are two decks outside. A large gas grill is also provided.

The house also has high-speed internet, wifi and cable.

Rest easy to a 'worry free' vacation, as we have a caretaker cottage on the property as well. 'Uncle John' will be sure everything with the home is perfect. John has been a member of our family for many years so he will gladly help you in any way.

About Mike Polak

This was our home for ten years where we raised our two children. We originally moved to Savannah in 2002 and bought the Tybee house a year later as a second home. Yet, we fell in love with Tybee and sold our Savannah home and moved in full-time early in 2005.

Four years ago we tearfully moved to Decatur where I took a new job. Decatur is great, but we miss the stars, sunsets and sounds of the surf. We have two great boys who are now 19 and 15.

Currently, we live in Decatur, Georgia. I work for a healthcare software company and teach political science at Georgia Tech. My wife is a middle school language arts teacher.

Mike Polak purchased this house in 2003

Why Mike Polak chose Coastal

My wife and I for a number of years would visit Tybee and pull up our beach chairs on the beaches on the Southend to relax and watch the sunset. After the first sunset and cool breezes, we were hooked. When we decided to buy a home on Tybee, I spent months waiting for a home to come available between 18th Terrace and 19th Street.

The Southend is also close enough to the Pier, restaurants and shops to walk, yet far enough where the beach isn't as crowded. Better yet, just walk around the tip to the beaches facing 'Little Tybee' and it will be almost empty.

Also, the main road on Tybee Island ends on the Southend and becomes a narrow two lane road. Therefore, the cars go really slow. Therefore, we didn’t have to worry about my two sons walking down the street or riding their bikes.

Why did we choose this particular house? The location is perfect. Since we are only the 4th house from the ocean you can hear the waves and the surf. It is really nice to have private access to the beach as well. I also like historic houses, so the home still has its original 'bead board' from the 1930s. The extra lot is a big plus. We had plenty of room to park and it gave our two boys enough space to throw a baseball, play football or shoot baskets.

What makes this house unique

We love to invite people to our home. For entertaining, we have two decks surrounded by palm trees. We also converted the original porch into a 'sun room'. This room is large and surrounded by windows, so a great spot to share a cocktail with friends. When family visits us, we can put them in a separate suite downstairs. They really like the extra privacy.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Mike,

We had such a wonderful week! Your home was everything I expected and more. Nothing feels as cozy as an old house with wood floors, hidden nooks and crannies, and a personality all its own. You have done a great job re-modeling, especially in the kitchen. It was stocked with an abundance of cookware- everything we needed. The downstairs area was perfect for our son & his wife and baby. The rest of us slept upstairs, and we all enjoyed the big dining table for meals. In fact, the best meals we had at Tybee were the ones we prepared ourselves on the gas grill. I spent time on the downstairs deck every afternoon with the baby, listening to the birds, watching the cat, and catching a soft breeze now and then. It's hard to say which was more beautiful- the beach in the morning, deserted and washed clean, or the sun setting over Little Tybee with wild waves lapping on the shore. Our little grandson got his first taste of the ocean, and he loved it- in small doses. The tide pools were just perfect for a one-year-old! The beds were comfy, having a washer and dryer on the premises was super convenient, and we also liked the sinks in the upstairs bedrooms!

Overall, we made a lot of happy memories during our week at Stargazer. It has the feel of a real home, a place that holds memories of its own..."if these walls could talk..." Thank you for opening your home to our family.

Very clean and well kept

  • 4 of 5

I've stayed on Tybee Island many times and all I can say is....What a great place to stay. We went for a long weekend with 2 other couples. We were very pleased with our stay. The home was very well put together with plenty of room to sit and visit . The beds seemed very soft so I slept like a baby. I loved being able to sit on the balcony at night and listen to the ocean. I took advantage of being 2 doors down from the beach and spent a lot of time walking in the sand. The home had everything we needed to make us comfortable. I look forward to staying there again. I think this home is probably the best kept secret on the island.

Great home for 2 families and teens

  • 5 of 5

We loved our Tybee stay. The home was perfect for our needs. We had 2 families each with 3 teens. There is plenty of sleep space. The house has most needs met as far as kitchen and bathroom items. It also has beach chairs and boogie boards. The basketball was also appreciated as there is lots of space to enjoy. The proximity is great for the beach and some shops/restaurants. We enjoyed bikes that we rented to see the rest of the Island. The only item I would wish for would be beach towels as they take up space when flying. Overall fabulous experience. We loved the charm of the older home. We hope to come back here someday!

Our family had a lovely time on Tybee Island. The property we stayed in was clean and furnished well. Would have liked to have had bikes on the property but completely understood why they were not available. Overall the family agreed we would stay there again!!

Great place for our Girlfriend Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriends and I stayed at the Stargazer for our annual girl's getaway and it was perfect! I had never stayed at Tybee so was thrilled for the opportunity to go there. The house is close to so much! Just a short walk to the beach, pier, shopping, etc. We rode bikes (provided) one day all around the island. The kitchen was well-stocked although breakfast and lunch were the only meals we cooked. Good restaurants are close by with lovely views for dinner. We loved sitting on the deck with our glasses of wine and watching the sunset. It was also nice to have a caretaker on site to answer any questions or help with things. I would highly recommend staying here.

Great Beach House, perfectly located.

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I stayed here for labor day weekend. The house is very close to the beach which made it very convenient to get to and from. It is also very close to the pavilion and pier on Tybee, which had a lot of cool attractions. The house has all the amenities that anyone could need and is perfect for a large group getaway.

The owner, Mike, is very easy to deal with. My group and I faced what I would call a lot of initial hesitation making trip because a hurricane hit Georgia the day before. However, Mike was very prompt in answering all of our questions and updating us on the situation. Ultimately, I'm so glad we decided to make the trip. It's one we'll never forget.

Overall, great house and great owner. I would recommend and hope to come back someday myself!

Car: recommended

The beaches on the south end have incredible sun rises and sun sets. Though only a short walk to the historic Tybee Pier and Restaurant district, the beaches here are rarely crowded. Once you arrive, there is no reason to ever have to move your car again.

The southend beach also has a beautiful view of 'Little Tybee' a protected natural preserve and a short kayak trip away. A great family outing. Hiking on 'Little Tybee' is truly one of the experiences of a lifetime.

Tybee Island is itself is one of the few remaining true 'beach towns'. In addition to everything a beach offers, it also has great fun and educational activities for kids including surfing, kayaking, fishing, walking up the steps of a 1800s lighthouse, visiting civil war forts and taking guided beach walks at the marine science center. Just 20 minutes from Tybee Island, guests should also visit historic Savannah, considered by travel guides as one of the most beautiful cities in North America.
