Overview

About the property

Located in Ojai's East End, Pine Tree Cottage is the quintessential retreat, perfect for romantic getaways or as a space to contemplate the final chapters of your novel. Whether you wish to hike or mountain bike up Horn Canyon, visit the Thacher or Ojai Valley Schools, or spend some time at Meditation Mount or the Krishnamurti library, this location offers much for the nourishment of your soul. Ojai itself beckons from here as well, with its festivals and fun, shopping and dining experiences. Lake Casitas, Ventura and Santa Barbara are also nearby, awaiting your exploration.

Pine Tree cottage, at a cozy 450 square feet, has one bedroom with a queen-sized bed, a bathroom with a shower, and a meal preparation-ready kitchen. The living room sofa converts to a twin bed, perfect for a child or third guest. A wooden deck out back is a comfortable place to watch the quail in the morning, or listen to the owls in the evening, and the table and chairs outside the kitchen door provides for a wonderful al fresco dining spot.

About Kathleen Barth

I have been visiting Ojai since childhood, and have lived here sporadically since 1988. My husband and I met at UC Santa Barbara, were married in Ojai, and lived here as newlyweds. We currently live in Riverside, CA, but frequent the valley for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Kathleen Barth purchased this cottage in 1974

Why Kathleen Barth chose Central Coast

My parents purchased this property as a family retreat and potential retirement spot. My husband and I now own it and love sharing with visitors!

What makes this cottage unique

We love the rural feel of this area, and also enjoy its proximity to civilization. The hiking and biking are amazing, and the village of Ojai has fun activities year-round: festivals and events, great shopping, and open space. We have easy access to both Lake Casitas and the ocean, as well as a number of attractions along the coast. Most of all, we enjoy the quiet of hanging out here in the East End.

Peaceful getaway in the woods

  • 4 of 5

The Cottage provided just what I was looking for. A quiet place away from the crowds to listen to the birds and the wind in the trees. The Cottage was clean and as described. The bed was comfortable. There is a full kitchen. There were even doggie bowls for my dog. This place is a great getaway spot although if you're used to high-end hotels with room service, you may want to stick to those. Kathleen was quick to respond to questions. I would stay here again. Note: due to the heavy rains this past winter there's an abundance of mosquitos; not in the house, however if you sit outside on the patio, I would suggest using a mosquito deterent.

Owner's Response: Mosquitoes are not the wildlife we hope to enjoy out on the deck! Thanks for letting me know so it can be addressed. Glad you enjoyed your stay, and thanks for your feedback.

Lovely little secluded cottage

  • 4 of 5

Fascinating surroundings and challenging hikes. Comfortable inside but some hazardous steps to avoid as I didn't. That said highly recommend.

Owner's Response: Sorry you had a little trouble, it is a rustic hodge-podge. We love hiking in the area, there's as much, or as little, challenge as one could want...and I'm glad you discovered it.

Lovely getaway

  • 5 of 5

This property is in a superb, quiet, and forested location in Ojai, and also very accessible to all points of the town. The cottage has all amenities needed. It is extremely peaceful. The owner was gracious and consented to work with a reschedule, and we really appreciated that. Thank you very much. We enjoyed our stay.

Small but quaint and very quiet

  • 5 of 5

The space is old and on the small side but it's quirks, charm and remote location made it great for us! It's still very close to downtown Ojai but all we heard were birds and the trees rustling. It was about 75deg when we were here so it may get hot in the summer but just hang out on the patio! It would be perfect if there was a little hot tub to soak in. Definitely had fun here!
