About Ray Holub

After spending one night in the Potatoe Patch area we knew we loved it. My wife and I kept thinking about how we could get back. And now with several homes in the area we spend as much time as we can in the mountains.

Ray Holub purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Ray Holub chose Capital Territory & High Country

Five years ago we found this spot where the views are remarkable. We thought this would be a great place to build a cabin. We knew what we liked about the cabins in the area. We incorporated those features and added some new ones. We think you are going to really like the results.

What makes this cabin unique

At 7000 feet, we are about 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix. You will find a wide variety of trees: aspen, oak, fir, pine and juniper. Relax and enjoy your time off.

Being in the mountains is good for the body and soul. Enjoy the great outdoors. Enjoy our wild Arizona

Guestbook comments from the owner

In the directions there are two routes to arrive at the cabin. One way with a 2wd vehicle is to arrive coming down the hill to the cabin and leaving you continue down the hill and out. The other way with 4wd is to come up the hill to the cabin and leaving you continue down the hill and out.

Beautiful, but difficult driving

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed most of our stay at the cabin. It was very well maintained, clean and modern with a gorgeous view. You are really getting away from things. Unless you have Verizon, don't assume your phones will work at the cabin and there is no landline, so if there's an emergency, you'll have to drive in to town.

We took a Toyota Highlander, 2WD up there because reviews and the instructions we received indicated that you didn't have to have a 4WD. We own a Subaru AWD and would have driven that up instead if we had known. We made it to the cabin without a problem, but we couldn't get back out the way we came in. I would suggest going out the way the directions indicate for 4WD (don't go in that way). My husband is an avid camper and is familiar with driving off-road.

Other than the driving problem, I would recommend the cabin. It was a nice getaway!

Beautiful, peaceful, breathtaking view in the tall pines!

  • 4 of 5

We spent 5 days and 4 nights in this beautiful cabin with 4 adults and 2 children over Easter weekend. The cabin is well stocked with everything you need, just bring your food. The road in is a little scary the first time up as others have stated but with the good weather we had, there were only a couple of spots where there was a little snow melt running across the road and a few spots of loose gravel where you do a little slipping and sliding. A 4 wheel drive vehicle would make it much easier but we made it with our Lexus RX330 and a Dodge Journey, I wouldn't try it in wet weather or snow without 4 wheel drive as it is a primitive road once off the pavement.

The view from the deck is spectacular and the sunsets were fantastic. There isn't much flat ground around the cabin other than the driveway so the kids were limited to playing on the deck when outside. This is the perfect place for just the adults to get away from it all and we will definitely consider doing just that in the future. There are plenty of games to play and there is always the TV to watch if you want, so we were all entertained when we were spending our time inside just relaxing. Also keep an eye out for the wild turkeys that are roaming around the area, they were fun to watch rustling in the leaves from the back deck in the morning.

The cabin is on the market for sale, so if you are thinking about renting this one, better make it soon because the new owner may decide to not rent it out and that would be a shame.

Many thanks to Ray for his prompt replies to our questions in the beginning and for sharing this wonderful place in the pines.

Secluded Cabin With Friends

  • 5 of 5

This was the first time I ever rented out a cabin and the reason I choose this one was because it was away from everyone and everything. I did not have high expectations for it. When I got to the cabin with my 6 guests, we were so impressed by how well it was stocked, how beautiful it was and how cozy we all felt being there. The view was the most amazing part about it! This is one of the best experiences I can honestly say I have ever had with traveling. Ray was awesome as well. He was quick to reply to all my messages.

Peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

The road to this cabin is fun and just a little challenging. We never managed to get back during daylight hours so that just added to the fun. If you're looking for peace and quiet, but still reasonably close to Sedona, the south rim of the canyon etc. then this cabin is a great choice. Fully equipped, comfortable and great value.

Such A Great Property

  • 5 of 5

We took a weekend trip to the cabin for a birthday weekend. It was wonderful. We had 7 people and dogs and it was so spacious and comfortable. There was still snow on the ground from some large storms this week before, so it was beautiful. The back patio was great to sit and relax with a glass of wine with friends. I would highly recommend this property to others, and will be back soon!
