Our Santa Fe-based family purchased the property and built the home in the early 1990's as weekend getaway and gathering place for extended family and family friends. It's been a perfect place for adults to relax and kids to enjoy being outside. Our family has gotten years of enjoyment out of the home and surrounding area and we hope that your family enjoys it just as much as ours has.
My family of four, 10 year old and 2 year old enjoyed our stay as my husband took a class at the Chama Depot. We had all the amenities we needed and my daughter got to enjoy some serious rowing in the rowboat. You were forthcoming about the water, that was really the only downfall. Nothing we couldn't handle though! Overall, I was very pleased and appreciate you allowing us the opportunity to stay here. We plan on making another trip next year!!
What a wonderful cabin! Our family drove from Albuquerque to Chama on a Friday afternoon and we stayed until Monday morning.
Stepping on the property, our faces were all smiles and wonder. The views of unobstructed nature were amazing! The cabin itself was quaintly decorated and fully stocked with everything we needed. From extra coats, to towels, to appliances, to kayaks and outdoor games, we were fully prepared to have a great family weekend!
The cabin was spacious and provided our big group plenty of room for quiet times and times with the whole group. The outdoor area was an extra bonus. We spent much of our time on the porch, the dock, and around the fire pit as we star gazed and ate s'mores.
The cabin was in a great location as well. The local grocery store was minutes away, and Lake Heron was close too!
We had a wonderful weekend and we even got our security deposit back within hours of leaving!
We have already recommended this cabin to others and we will definitely return!
We celebrated my sister's 1 year wedding anniversary and Father's Day at the house. Our family couldn't have asked for more relaxing accommodations. We practically lived on the patio and in the water, hopping in and out of the kayak to feast on bbq or play badminton, but only to find relief from the heat in the refreshing water. Elizabeth was extremely helpful and easy to reach over email. Without hesitation we'd recommend this rental to anyone.
We celebrated my father-in-law's 80th birthday over the long weekend, spending lots of time at the house. It was a perfect slice of summertime - with the covered porch when it rained, the deck when we wanted the sun, the pond for kayaking and floating, a badminton course... Everything was perfect. Really well tended and stocked. We had 8 of us and had such a wonderful time. It's quiet and out of the way (unfortunately too far for us to get to often) - and the wildlife was great - elk, deer, muskrat (we think), raccoon, garter snakes... Highly recommend if you're looking for a relaxing getaway.
Very beautiful surroundings, lots of kitchen/bathroom extras, serene and very relaxing. Nice farm house. Great place to bring two families and a few kids!
We considered other properties in the area that were less expensive but decided on Elk Meadows. The reviews are all correct, EXCELLENT. This was our first VRBO experience and I hope any future rentals live up to this example of professionalism. We brought some of our own condiments, sugar , syrup etc., it was not needed everything was provided. Both the grand children wanted to stay longer and had tons of fun with the kayak. Only suggestion is to bring your own binoculars or spotting scope as the ones provided are not enough to go around. You will be surprised what you can see in the distance. Elk, deer, turkey, owls and a somewhat friendly racoon best viewed from inside the house. All I can say is Thank you to Elizabeth and staff for a wonderful stay.
