I grew up in the PNW and always loved being outside. I have great memories of fishing rivers and lakes with my brothers, and hiking trails with my friends. But no place captured me quite like the beach. The smell of the salt air before I could even see the ocean was always the perfect tease. The feel of sand under my bare feet as I would charge down the beach, the perfect tactile touch. The unending ocean stretched out beyond the horizon methodically rolling to shore, always gave me the sense of endless space. The sound of the waves rhythmic murmur, the perfect soundtrack to my sense of wonder. The smell of the bonfire lingering in my sweatshirt, my treasured bonus when the trip was over.

My family's favorite place to stay at the beach was an old board and batten cedar cabin that was rustic, open and cozy. My 2 brothers, sister, and I would scour the house for games, books or anything fun that we could do. My mom would put the food away in the kitchen and start to make something that always smelled like the perfect companion to our growing hunger. My dad would assign the beds and then start trying to set up the Tv and VCR that he brought. Movie’s after dinner was such a rare treat.

Simply put, my homes are an ode to these memories. They are personal but designed to share. They are an outlet for my creativity; the unending project for someone who loves a good project.

I spend many Friday evenings driving to the beach with my dog, Patty, in a truck loaded with tools and supplies. There is always something that needs to be fixed or replaced. If I'm lucky I will get an evening where the wind is calm and the stars are on full display. I will set down my toolbelt, whistle to my dog and walk to the beach, pulling a wagon loaded with firewood and a cooler. Reclining under the stars, looking out over the Pacific Ocean I will try to soak it in. Life is short and work is right around the corner, but at this moment I am exactly where I want to be.

Why they chose this property

As an adult, I began to build and create spaces for my family to connect and enjoy. The first project was a 2-story tree-house with power. It was fun to build and so nice to see my kids and their friends enjoy. At some point I began looking for a house at the beach that we could call our second home.

The minute I saw Beach Cabin I knew I had found our beach house. It was in rough shape and needed lots of work but I was excited to make it what I knew it could be. I recently completed the second remodel on this home. It is no longer the diamond-in-the-rough that I found so many years ago. It is refined and polished. It is a gem, and I am excited to share it with you.

Beach Cabin is located about 5 minutes north of town. It is a 6 minute walk from the beach, and the beach is a lightly used section of a 28 mile stretch of uninterrupted beach. Enjoy the rolling ocean a few minutes away from the comfort of a well appointed cabin tucked away in a wooded acre.

The long beach peninsula is just 2 miles wide and has 28 miles of unbroken beach on the ocean side. Most of the beach is available via the car if so desired. The bay side has wildlife refuges and oyster farming.

The area was originally developed at the end of the 19th century as a getaway destination from Portland and Seattle, and the local towns have many charming beach homes from that era. The area also has several state parks and the Lewis and Clark National park. Fishing, crabbing, clamming and wildlife viewing are popular pastimes.

Spend the morning on the beach before heading over to Astoria and Warrenton to explore the local shops and restaurants available nearby. Visit nearby museums and take in panoramic views from the Astoria Column, a towering hilltop monument with murals depicting local history. Or stick closer to town and visit Osterville, an early 19th century community nestled into Willapa Bay that is in the National Register of Historic Places.

What makes this property unique

I have tried to create a balance of the perfect vacation home for the adult me and kid me. It has a wonderful private and secluded feel. I love the outdoor shower and patio with hot tub, perfect for those overcast days after walking the beach. It is a beautiful spot walking distance to the beach yet tucked away and more like a retreat, less like another ho-hum house. Rain or shine this is not a home you will get bored in. Newly remodeled in 2021, It is a premiere spot to vacation.
