About the host
Hosted by Toby Friesen
I grew up in the PNW and always loved being outside. I have great memories of fishing rivers and lakes with my brothers, and hiking trails with my friends. But no place captured me quite like the beach. The smell of the salt air before I could even see the ocean was always the perfect tease. The feel of sand under my bare feet as I would charge down the beach, the perfect tactile touch. The unending ocean stretched out beyond the horizon methodically rolling to shore, always gave me the sense of endless space. The sound of the waves rhythmic murmur, the perfect soundtrack to my sense of wonder. The smell of the bonfire lingering in my sweatshirt, my treasured bonus when the trip was over.
My family's favorite place to stay at the beach was an old board and batten cedar cabin that was rustic, open and cozy. My 2 brothers, sister, and I would scour the house for games, books or anything fun that we could do. My mom would put the food away in the kitchen and start to make something that always smelled like the perfect companion to our growing hunger. My dad would assign the beds and then start trying to set up the Tv and VCR that he brought. Movie’s after dinner was such a rare treat.
Simply put, my homes are an ode to these memories. They are personal but designed to share. They are an outlet for my creativity; the unending project for someone who loves a good project.
I spend many Friday evenings driving to the beach with my dog, Patty, in a truck loaded with tools and supplies. There is always something that needs to be fixed or replaced. If I'm lucky I will get an evening where the wind is calm and the stars are on full display. I will set down my toolbelt, whistle to my dog and walk to the beach, pulling a wagon loaded with firewood and a cooler. Reclining under the stars, looking out over the Pacific Ocean I will try to soak it in. Life is short and work is right around the corner, but at this moment I am exactly where I want to be.

Why they chose this property
In 2013 I bought my first home in Long Beach. It was a fixer-upper with every room needing work. Some rooms were simply studs and plywood. I drove to the beach every Friday and spent almost every hour working on the home. Before sunset I would make my way to the beach with my dog Patty to watch the show and drink a beer.
I would always get to the dunes, glance South and look at this large, beautiful ocean front home, never once imagining that in 4 years I would buy it. I have spent every year since, making it as welcoming, comfortable and entertaining as possible. It is my pleasure to share this home with you and yours.
Ocean Trail is located about 5 minutes north of town. It is a 3 minute walk from the beach, and the beach is a lightly used section of a 28 mile stretch of uninterrupted beach. Enjoy the rolling ocean a few minutes away from the comfort of a well appointed oceanfront home in an exclusive gated neighborhood.
The long beach peninsula is just 2 miles wide and has 28 miles of unbroken beach on the ocean side. Most of the beach is available via the car if so desired. The bay side has wildlife refuges and oyster farming.
The area was originally developed at the end of the 19th century as a getaway destination from Portland and Seattle, and the local towns have many charming beach homes from that era. The area also has several state parks and the Lewis and Clark National park. The typical beach terrain is great for bicycling. Fishing, crabbing, clamming and wildlife viewing are popular pastimes.
Spend the morning on the beach before heading over to Astoria and Warrenton to explore the local shops and restaurants available nearby. Visit nearby museums and take in panoramic views from the Astoria Column, a towering hilltop monument with murals depicting local history. Or stick closer to town and visit Osterville, an early 19th century community nestled into Willapa Bay that is in the National Register of Historic Places.

What makes this property unique
I love the private trail to the beach, the great views, and the feeling of so much space. The house is overstocked with crazy amounts of stuff to do. Impossible to get bored.
