About Steve Clark
This house was built to accommodate 2 golf foursomes and has been a family retreat for many years. With the family scattered throughout the southeast the house stays empty much of the year which is why we have opened our doors to you. We know you will love the peace and serenity of Rocky Acres Retreat.
Steve Clark purchased this House in 1987
Why Steve Clark chose Cherry Lane
The house sits on 1 acre and we also own another 5 acres adjacent to it. Our back yard is in fact a part of Stone Mountain State Park and across the gravel private drive are another 10 acres of undeveloped private property. So you are literally surrounded by hundreds of acres of woods where the only neighbors are the wildlife. We are only a short walk from the Blue Ridge Parkway so some of the most beautiful scenery in the country can be seen from our deck or just a short walk down the driveway. We know you will enjoy the peaceful mountain life. Your only neighbors are the wildlife. With 2400 square feet of living space your family and friends can enjoy gathering together and not feel cramped with plenty of seating space so everyone can spread out and truly relax.
What makes this House unique
Stone Mountain State Park is our back yard. You are literally surrounded by Stone Mountain State Park. Walk south on the Blue Ridge Parkway to Stone Mountain Lookout. The park is only a 10 minute drive from the house. 10 miles down the Parkway is Doughton Park with a 6,000-acre landscape of open meadows and pioneer cabins and some of the best hiking around. Sparta, which is only 9 miles down the road has some of the best bluegrass music in North Carolina at the Alleghany Jubilee. There are over thirty wineries within a 30 mile radius of our house. Just pick one or several to enjoy the day wine tasting. Antiquing is another activity you can enjoy. Include antiquing with wine tasting and have a blast. Down in Sparta is the New River State Park and New River Campground where you can enjoy the cool waters on a canoe or kayaking trip. Five golf courses are close by too. Get in 18 at either Roaring Gap Golf Course, Olde Beau Golf Club, Deer Creek Golf Course, Stone Mountain Golf Club and High Meadows Golf & Country Club. Buy some deer corn at the local store and place some in the center island in the driveway and sit on the deck and watch the deer come up to feed. The wrap around deck is large enough to put out the corn hole game (provided) and heat up the competition or just sit on one of the eight rocking chairs and enjoy the scenery. On those cold rainy days curl up by the stone gas log fireplace or enjoy one of the 200 DVD's on the 40 inch HDTV with ROKU and WiFi. The full kitchen is a cooks delight with everything you need to make a cake or pie or whip up that old family favorite meal. This is the perfect place to get away from it all and experience some country living. The phone won't ring unless you give someone the number and it is so quiet outside you can hear the turkey gobbling in the woods and watch as the deer stroll by the house. You won't find a more peaceful retreat with so many amenities so close

This was the perfect secluded, peaceful getaway. It had everything we could have wanted.
Secluded with a nice, sunset view and rocking chairs so it could be enjoyed.
Your experience is why we call it "Serenity". So glad you experienced rocking to the view. It never gets old. Come back and stay with us any time.
A Great Getaway
We all (5) enjoyed our stay. The "cabin" is truly a mountain getaway as we crossed the eastern continental divide in Roaring Gap to get there. That's not as daunting as it might sound as the NC mountains aren't all that imposing, just green and lush this year. The bedrooms were comfortable with a good number of bathrooms. The main living area is pleasant and spacious. I particularly liked the wooden beams on the high ceiling. We had plenty of room to spread out and several in the group took rocking chairs out on the deck. Overall it was a pleasant relaxing stay including a foray into Elkin on Saturday for the annual wine festival. The only problem we had during our stay was that one member of our crew couldn't get cellular coverage. The rest of us were fine and of course we all connected to the WiFi.
Thank you for highlighting that we are on the Continental Divide. I don't stress that enough. Both creeks the are on either side of the house do flow in different directions and yes...we promise the woods and that sometimes that goes with poor cell service. We know Verizon works well and most others work ok on the west side of the house and the wifi service works great. Then again some are happy to disconnect for a while too.
I am glad you enjoyed the comforts and serenity of the house and that you got to visit the wine festival in Elkin and explore all there is to do in the Sparta area.
Come back and stay at Rocky Acres Retreat any time
Awesome with a beautiful view!
Wonderful place to visit with plenty of room. There was 8 of us and we still had extra beds. Beds were comfy and everything you will need is in the kitchen. Thanks so much for having us!
I am glad you enjoyed your visit to Serenity on The Blue Ridge. We like soft beds and linens and the think our guests should have the same things so we make sure we keep up our standards. Come back and visit and enjoy everything there is about Rocky Acres Retreat.

Thank you for the wonderful review and in highlighting the things we take pride in. It is always a pleasure to meet some of the folks that stay with us at Rocky Acres Retreat. Our guests come from far and wide and they all have stories about why they are coming to stay with us and we like to hear those stories. That's also one reason we have a guest book for everyone to share their experiences. Old fashion guest books.
Next time you need a retreat in the woods please give us a call again.
Great weekend getaway!!
This is our third year (we are active and retired teachers ) staying at Rocky Acres ! We love everything about the place! It is so relaxing enjoying the view from the porch, playing corn hole, watching the deer, hiking on the parkway, visiting Sparta. The beds are super comfy and Steve is very good to work with. We’ll be back next year!!
It is always a joy to have you come back and visit. You take in all there is to enjoy about staying at Rocky Acres Retreat... plus some. There is a lot to do in the Sparta area it takes more than a weekend to take in. We look forward to you coming back to see us.
Peace in the woods
We had a great time. The home had everything we needed and was quite clean. The owners are easy to work with. The location is perfect for hiking and nature enthusiasts with great places for serene walks around the house and easy access to hundreds of hiking trails and the blue ridge parkway. Sitting on the awesome deck with a glass of wine was a great end to every day. Local wineries were fun. Will be back.
It's truly is hard to explain what amenities are available to the hiking enthusiast, wine and beer enthusiast and the relaxation enthusiast but I think you outlined everything perfectly. Sparta may not be a well known town but is beginning to catch on with those that visit and explore the area. We seem to be in the center of it all. We do our best to make sure the house is the cleanest as my wife and I go up every couple months to ensure deep cleaning of the house and cleaning of all the bed linens and linens in storage are all ready for the next group to arrive. All this on top of our cleaning crew that is out after every guest. We expect that when we visit other locations and we expect that of our property too.
Come back and visit any time. You are always welcome.
