Great "Camp"

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the wonderful cabin. Best equipped "camp" I've ever been to. Everything was as presented in description. The towns near Center pond are inhabited with friendly folks. Music, food at Stutzman's Sunday brunch, Thursday night music and lobster roll at Monson's Lakeside cafe and a performance at Dover-FoxCroft's Centre Theater were unexpected delights.

Relaxing with nature - in a great Maine style

  • 5 of 5

Picture camping in the wilderness - but not staying in a tent but a beautiful and tastefully decorated cabin.

Our family (including two teenage children) really fell in love with Center Pond. From fishing (no great whoppers - but hundreds of bream, bass and a few trout) to kayaking across the lake to see the eagles (This was the greatest of all - directly across the lake there is a nest and a roost where there are two immature bald eagles and one of the parents - they fish and watch you kayak - but let you know they are there with their screams) - it was one of the most relaxing places that we have ever been.

There are some nice local restaurants around - nothing fancy - but just good all around Maine countryside food.

Great sunrises (and photo ops) off the dock.

Never needed the air conditioner (though available) and not sure if we even turned on the tv - we spent a lot of time outdoors.

We came to Center Pond from Acadia - about 1.5-2 hour drive - and it was a welcome change to get away from the crowds there (yes it is beautiful - but if you go do so early in morning or after 5 pm to avoid the crowds).

By the way - there is an extremely friendly (or curious) chipmunk that shows up in the morning - I was quite sure that if I had a few peanuts with me he would have jumped in my hand to eat them as he climbed down from the tree and ran up to within about 2 feet of me without appearing scared.

We hope to visit again - and would love to see this place in the fall - I can only imagine the colors!

Great owner communication - extremely helpful and complete instructions for everything - plus very easy to work with - of the 10 or so VRBO rentals we have done around the world these owners have done it better than any other we have dealt with - THANK YOU!

Owner's Response: We really appreciate your kind words. Like you, we used VRBO to rent places in the US and Europe, and took many notes during our travels. Based on our experience, we wanted to make sure our guests on Center Pond had detailed information about the camp and the area. While we think the camp has many amenities, we also hope our guests take advantage of the outdoors. Again, thank you for your positive comments.

Beautiful Cabin Retreat

  • 4 of 5

My family and I spent a week here and had an amazing time. We enjoyed the quiet pond everyday! We were almost always the only ones in the water. The kayaks we such a wonderful bonus. Still close enough to get what you need but secluded enough to relax and not worry about the rest of the world. We had one of our best vacations here.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your positive comments about our camp, and the location. Great that you all enjoyed using the kayaks. Yes, the camp's location does offer an opportunity to get away from it all, but close enough to town as well. Again, thanks for your review, and we hope you consider our camp in the future.

Wicked peaceful.

If you're looking for a rural getaway, this is the place for you. My wife and I spent a week here with our 8 month old daughter and got exactly what we were hoping for. We only left the house a few times. We were more than content to lay in the hammock, take the kayaks out, read, swim (water shoes are encouraged... the pond's bottom is rather murky), sit by the campfire and cook ourselves big meals. We meant to go for a hike one day, but were too content with our activities at the house. The surrounding towns (Dover-Foxcroft or Dexter both about 15-20 minutes away) are somewhat limited in what they offer, so if you want to lay by the pond by day and go out lavish dinners at night, this may not be the place for you. That being said, there are a few absolute gems in the area. We fell in love with a farm stand that had great pizza, excellent produce and top-notch baked goods. Also, there was an ice cream stand in D-F that left us impressed, and ice cream is an area of our expertise.

The house itself is in great condition and Ralph was extremely accommodating. We were very pleased with our stay and would highly recommend it to others.
