Thereabouts is a family-friendly vacation rental just steps from one of the world's most beautiful beaches. With magnificent views in every room, the comfortable living area features cathedral ceilings and has sliding doors on either side to allow for cool island breezes and crosswinds. This is a beach house built for people who love the beach. It's not the Bahamas of casinos and five-star hotels, but the real Bahamas: gorgeous beaches, snorkeling on tropical reefs, fishing, lounging in the sun and, perhaps best of all, solitude. Wake up to the gorgeous sunrise, spend the day unwinding on the beach, exploring, or napping on the hammock in the Chickee hut, then at night discover the wonder of watching a panoramic night sky instead of the TV. This is your chance to discover what relaxation really feels like.

About Chuck Eaves
Hi, my name is Chuck Eaves. My father built this house in the late 60's and my family and I have enjoyed it ever since. The house was completely renovated in 2012, all new windows and doors, central air, Kitchen and baths modernized. My wife and I live in South Florida and spend as much time as we can at Thereabouts. It really is a very special place. I know that you'll agree once you've visited.
Chuck Eaves purchased this House in 1968
Why Chuck Eaves chose South Eleuthera
Thereabouts is situated on the most desirable section of Winding Bay—one of Eleuthera’s best beaches. The pink sand beach at Thereabouts slopes gently into gin-clear warm water. Thereabouts is one of only a dozen homes on Winding Bay and most of the year, it feels like a private paradise.
What makes this House unique
Thereabouts is a short walk to one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. In addition to sunbathing and beach--combing, nearby reefs offer amazing snorkeling and Bay fishing year-round. Bone fish are regularly seen and caught in Winding Bay, Bonefish Creek (behind the house) and Half Sound Bay (at the far end of the cut)

Perfect House - Perfect Beach - Perfect Host
We just finished 10 outstanding days at the the Eaves home on Winding Bay. We were met at the Rock Sound Airport by Toya Carey, the incredibly welcoming and cheerful house manager, who brought along our rental car. Toya had my wife ride with her so she could point out details and points of interest during the short drive to the Eaves home. Toya first drove us to the grocery store, then around Tarpum Bay to point out a couple of restaurants we might enjoy. When we arrived at "Thereabouts", Toya walked us through the house and provided us with instructions on the daily running of the home, the location of necessary items and how to use items like the AC and fans. Toya was so friendly we took her up on her offer to stop by her house "for any help with anything". We usually met her friends and even family when we would stop by to pick-up advice or an item.
The Eaves home is a perfect beach get-away. Everything you need from kitchen, to bar, to BBQ and beach is waiting for you to use. The beds are extremely comfortable, the pillows perfect and the furniture is quintessential beach house...durable and uber comfortable. We found tons of snorkel gear, plenty of towels and enough beach furniture that we were all able to relax equally. The outdoor hot & cold water showers next to each bedroom were an ideal way to rinse off after all the salt and sand of the day. We spent several days where our chairs were the only ones on the beach. When the wind kicked up a couple of times it was a short walk or even shorter drive to nearby Half Sound where we plucked down some beach chairs Toya found for us on a strip of sand and we enjoyed the calm waters away from the wind...PLUS if you catch an outgoing tide correctly you can enjoy a lazy river float down "the cut".
The Eaves home is perfect, from the views, proximity to the beach, wildlife and all the amenities to include a washer-dryer and something absolutely unheard of in a vacation rental, sharp knives!
Thank you Chuck and family. After travelling to Hawaii, BVI, the DR and Mexico, we now have a favorite home-away-from-home!
Great time in a great place
I would love too call this place home. He hosted a good amount of people and it was super roomy. We called it the little house with a big feel. Great diving and bone fishing within walking distance.
Mr. Hammill was the ideal guest. He knows Eleuthera and the Winding Bay area.
Charming spot and a great and communicative owner
The house is remote and quaint. All the desired comforts in an absolutely remote beach setting which is what my family strives for. This is our second year renting the house and we have already reserved it again for 2017/2018. Thank you Chuck. H. Ingram, Pittsburgh, PA.
This is a beautiful place to stay- the beach, the bay, the people! It was a pleasure working with both the home owner and the care taker of the home while we were there. Communication was timely, friendly, and informative. We'd come back here in a heart beat!
Beautiful beach and water
We rented this house for four weeks in Jan/Feb 2016. The location couldn't be better. Steps from a beautiful light pink sand beach and warm, calm turquoise water. The house is close enough to Tarpum Bay and Rock Sound that quick trips to the grocery stores were possible. This was our second trip to Eleuthera and we loved it more than the first. The people are so friendly and the island is so laid back. You quickly discover what "island time" means. The house itself comes equipped with everything that you need (including soap for the washer) and air conditioning. It does not however have a dishwasher or TV. Not really a problem just FYI. The owner was very easy to work with and has done a good job updating an older home. The only negatives were that the furniture is very old, the greenery in front of the house has become too high to see the water easily and we felt the rental rate was too high when comparing this property with others available on Winding Bay for a similar rate.
Brilliant Family Vacation Rental House
We love-love-loved this house overlooking Winding Bay in Eleuthera. I'd never been to the Bahamas, but was looking for a low-key, comfortable, relaxed rental home where my family could get together and have a private vacation. We found it ! The house is nicely outfitted with everything you need - all the amenities and comforts of home. But within yards of the most beautiful beach you've ever seen. Pink sand, crystal clear water, great for swimming, shell collecting, snorkeling on a beautiful little coral reef, birdwatching, boating, wind surfing. And we took excursions into the small towns nearby to gather fresh seafood and supplies, check out the fun little restaurants and do some site seeing.
