About the property

3BR, 2BA Quiet Lake House. Sleeps 9

Bring your boat or enjoy the views from the land -- this gorgeous lake house has it all. Built from Cypress cut from the property, this house was home to the original settlers of the area. Fully remodeled in 2013, the 1920s charm is still present throughout. Decorated in Florida Nautical/Lodge style, the home feels comfortable and sophisticated all at the same time.

The nearby Mission Inn boasts 3 beautiful restaurants, fantastic golf facilities, and a spa -- all of which is open to the public. The outdoor and recreation experiences offered by Mission Inn Resort & Club are both diverse and unique. In addition to championship golf, the resort offers trap & skeet shooting, tennis, fresh water fishing, nature trails, a pool, playgrounds, restaurants, and more.

The house is fully furnished with a fully stocked kitchen. Three bedrooms include a master with a king bed and a master bath, and two additional bedrooms: one with a full-size bed and the other with a queen and a twin. These two bedrooms share the guest bath. The living room has a queen pull-out sofa for which linens are provided. We have a pack & play if you would like to use it (bring own crib sheet & blankets).

We do generally accept small and medium-size dogs with a nonrefundable pet fee of $200. We do not have a fenced-in yard.

Our house is a wonderful place to bring children as there are peacocks that roam the neighborhood and lots of wildlife to be seen around the property. The Yalaha Bakery is in walking distance of the house and has live music on Saturdays from 11 to 2. The house is conveniently located just 10 minutes from grocery stores and restaurants.

Other Area Activities

Located in Central Florida, Yalaha is sequestered from, yet convenient to, the world's most famous theme parks and attractions in Orlando. In addition, Yalaha is surrounded by an assortment of activities and nature experiences that complete any vacation.

About Christina & Brad

We are Brad and Christina. We live most of the year in Orlando and with our four small children and our blind dog, Wilma.

Christina & Brad purchased this house in 2013

Why Christina & Brad chose Yalaha

This house was built in the 1920s and we bought in 2013 from the family that built it. It overlooks beautiful Lake Harris and the neighborhood is peaceful and tranquil. Often on Saturdays we walk to the Yalaha Country Bakery and get lunch and listen to live music. This home has been a weekend house for our family and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

What makes this house unique

The original owners of this home were the original settlers of this area and the home has a lot of character. We've furnished it to be cozy and inviting for our family. The views from the front room over Lake Harris are amazing and we hang out in the swing by the lake while the kids play on the beach in the afternoons.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This has been the most wonderful trip -- as my sister said, Old Florida at its best. We loved everything about it -- rode our bikes in the hills, went to Yalaha Community Church, the bakery, boating, and took naps every day. We felt so welcome and comfortable. Thank you so much! We will be back.

We loved the kitchen with all the available things to use for cooking! The lake was great. My mom and aunt thoroughly enjoyed the peacocks. The bed was comfortable and I slept well.

1920's beach cottage

  • 3 of 5

The space was fine for our needs, and the master bed was comfortable, The photos on the website looked great, it looked as if the place had been remodeled, but that was not the case. `It was a bit dirty, and there were some personal items from the owner left around, like old sneakers in the master closet. The kitchen was very small and tight, especially when too many people (over 2) were in there, and it was really dirty inside all of the drawers where the utensils were. The master bathroom was terribly small, and the shower was just a small stall and definitely needed upgrade. The linens needed to become rags and new ones need to be purchased. The windows are pretty bad, we did find some that opened, and most were missing screens...I do love Jalousie windows, when they operate properly and have a screen on the inside. I'm sure that they are nice people, but they need to give that house a little more care, the back yard needs work as well and they could have better front seating (Plastic chairs are fine when they are not broken) as the view is magnificent !! Which is why we booked the house in the first place, it is across the street from the lake, which is definitely a giant plus!!! The house itself is, or could be, awesome the rooms are great the floor-plan is excellent, and the seating is great although the white sofa covers were filthy. For the money though, I think that people should know more of what they are getting into, the reviews that I had read were good, so maybe some people don't care, but all 9 of us that stayed there and any others who visited, agreed...oh something I forgot, they definitely need a stool or little ladder to get up into the master bed, its a very high platform bed, I am about 5'7"... and 59 years old, weigh maybe 120 lbs., and I had a really hard time getting up on the bed, especially in the night... We had no contact with the owner, so I didn't want to say anything through email, and it was such a wonderful trip for us, that the housing was definitely secondary to my son's nuptials, and we had already payed them, so I didn't really want to deal with it at the time, we tried to overlook everything,.. I would not stay there again.

Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

We were in the area for a wedding at Mission Inn Resort and a visit to Universal Studios. The house was a short drive to the resort and an easy drive to Universal. The location is very quiet and the beautiful lake is directly in front of the house. Everyone enjoyed sitting down at the lake in the evening watching the sunset. The house had everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable and the air conditioning worked very well while we were there....important when visiting Florida in the summer! It is an older Florida home, so it has its quirks. I grew up in South Florida and it made me nostalgic for my grandparent's home. The German bakery the owners suggest has wonderful pastries and desserts. Overall, I wish we could have stayed longer and hope to return in the future.
