The Villa Amorosa - A Love Affair. 1 mile to the beach
About Campbell Buchanan
Dan (R. in photo) and I (Campbell) on one of our diving trips to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday ... this time in the British Virgin Islands. The boat was a South African Leopard chartered through the Moorings ... perfect for diving and a surprisingly fast sailing vessel. For those of you who, like us, have traveled since with sailing family or friends in their 80s, a catamaran is the boat to choose. Save the sloops for a more agile group.
Campbell Buchanan purchased this Villa in 2012
Why Campbell Buchanan chose Victoria Park
Location: Victoria Park. The Villa Amorosa is centrally located: a 15 minute (6 miles) ride to the Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood International Airport; a 1 1/2 block walk to the Intercoastal Waterway Canals and Annie Beck Park, and 1 mile from downtown Fort Lauderdale, Las Olas Blvd., the Riverfront and the Beach.... A beautiful area to bike, jog or walk in ... or otherwise be Rickshawed about. Property: The Villa Amorosa immediately caught our attention with its combination of lot size, building/lot proportion, interior proportions, Mediterranean feel, wood-burning fireplace, gas stove, gas-point water heater, and old style construction. The adage 'They don't make them like they use to' well applies: A cement walled foundation throughout, Old Dade County pine (termite proof) used extensively, plaster walls in all rooms of the original house, Spanish tiled roofs and select Spanish tiled floors. The Villa Amorosa's construction has stood the test of time. History: The property has been standing since 1939, six years into Franklin D Roosevelt's administration, from the beginning through the end of World War II and wars since (Korean, Vietnam, ...), through hurricanes and other natural and man-made disasters. You can walk into this house and feel its immediate warmth and history. Too many of the old Victoria Park properties have been bulldozed to make room for more modern homes, condominium buildings, and multiple-family rental properties ... and with them bulldozed what was once an old world presence and charm that cannot be artificially duplicated.

Wow! First of all, Campbell and Dan were gracious hosts. The Villa was so clean and well maintained. We had so much space, and everything was thoughtfully addressed. The obvious highlight for us was the pool and deck area. We had plans to frequent the beach often, but the pool area was so much more enjoyable and private. On our last day, we couldn't pry ourselves away from the patio, so we ordered in so we could continue lounging poolside. When we did get out, we loved eating on Las Olas (so many great restaurants). Also we recommend the water taxi and the parks. We highly recommend this place, and would love to go back again in the future. A 10 out of 10!
Another great visit to Villa Amorosa.
Dan and Campbell are the world's best hosts.
The most fabulous holiday home for a couple with every attention to detail provided by the generous hosts. Truly outstanding!!! Loved it will revisit for sure.
Private Paradise in the Heart of Fort Lauderdale
Fantastic, amazing, beautiful, welcoming, perfection...I could go on, but it's a never ending list of positives.
Villa Amorosa is your own private paradise in a great location. A quick drive or an inexpensive Uber ride will get you to the beach, upscale and downscale restaurants, and shopping. However, you could stay at the Villa 24 x 7 and be completely happy. Heated pool, hot tub, lots of comfy outdoor seating...all surrounded by lush landscaping that provides you with natural privacy. Did I mention the heated pool and hot tub that you have all to yourself? Perfect for a wintertime visit!
The same adjectives I used for the property also apply to the hosts, Campbell and Dan. They were there to greet us, and give us a quick run through of the property and all the amenities for us to use (including beach chairs, cooler, beach towels). We arrived to wine, chocolate, and beautiful flowers. I mentioned to Dan that I had to put the lilies out by the pool because I am allergic, my hope being that they could enjoy them in their house. The next thing you know, Dan and Campbell arrive with a gorgeous bouquet to replace the lilies and a box of delicious pastries. They also had some great recommendations on places to eat and visit. We felt completely spoiled and very fancy the whole time we were there!
Unless you want to be beachfront in one the high-rise hotels with hundreds of other people, you simply must stay here.
Many, many thanks to Campbell and Dan for making our vacation great!!!
A relaxing beautiful Villa of love - we felt like we were staying in our own private spa
Staying at Villa Amorosa was just what we needed to recover from a stressful and busy life. We enjoyed swimming in the pool every day and the peaceful surroundings of the lush tropical foliage are an ideal place to meditate. Campbell and Dan are the most hospitable hosts you could wish for. This is our second visit and we plan to visit again the next time that we are in Fort Lauderdale.
A truly hidden gem!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Despite the rain that tried to put a damper on our Memorial Day weekend stay, we fully enjoyed our time. The pool and outdoor furniture were heavenly, even in the rain! Campbell was a generous host and no detail was overlooked!
Wilton Manors, the Island City, is about 10 minutes from The Villa Amorosa. It has one of the largest gay and lesbian communities in the United States.
