Nice small cabin

  • 4 of 5

Nice cabin.

12 to 15 stairs to get down into the cabin.

Quiet location.

Lots of deer and elk

Beds really squeak when you move.

Owner's Response: David, Glad you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. Yes,We are blessed with abundant wildlife and birds! My favorite spot is sitting on the deck taking in the mountain air and glorious nature! Image 18 on our listing photos, shows the pathway to the cottage. I believe there are 5 or 6 steps at the top ( I will check and verify) and 2 midway, with the rest being a pathway. Our guests comfort is our main concern. We did replace mattresses in both bedrooms not long ago and strive to have quality bedding. I am afraid this is the first I have heard about the matteress being squeaky! The cottage is a convenient location , near grocery stores, restaurants etc....yet off the main road to provide privacy . Thank you for taking time to submit a review for us! Best to you....come again! Jannelle

Summer Vacay in Ruidoso

  • 4 of 5

Found this cute cottage to rent. 2 bedrooms and one bath. It was in the Upper Canyon and close to everything. It was very tidy and stocked with the essentials. You had to walk down hill on a pathway to get to the house. Was a little difficult getting luggage down, but we managed. House has a wonderful deck on the back which we enjoyed. It had gates so our two small dogs could enjoy it too. AC worked great. Had an issue with tv but owner helped us get it working. Overall, a very peaceful and fun week.

Owner's Response: Janet , Thank you so much for choosing the Elk Crossing Cottage for your stay! It is such a peaceful setting in and around Ruidoso! We live every minute we see able to stay there! Yes...it is a bit of a walk down to the cottage front door. We did add the railing along the way to help. It's is nice though to be off the street a ways. Sorry about the tv....people tend to sometimes just start pressing the control button...which changes the input. Glad we figured that out. My favorite place to be is on the decks....on any of our properties, just relaxing and enjoying the surroundings ....with maybe a cup of coffe or glass of wine! Please join us again! Enjoy your summer and try to stay out of this Texas heat! I can't wait to get back to Ruidoso and cooler weather! Best, Jannelle

A lovely getaway in the tall pines.

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I stayed for a week in this cute cottage. We enjoyed our stay very much. The cottage was super clean and comfortable. We were particularly grateful for the AC, which came in handy on two or three uncharacteristically hot June days in Ruidoso. Fortunately, the nights were cool, and the ceiling fans precluded the need for the AC. The cottage was reasonably quiet, and very comfortable. We loved the daily deer visits. It is easily accessible to Ruidoso restaurants, shopping and entertainment. (We highly recommend Cornerstone Bakery, BTW, with it's wonderful breakfasts, fresh breads and pastries, and delicious hot coffee).

The property owner, Jannelle, is very easy to work with, and quite responsive to guests' needs. She is one of the main reasons we chose to stay at Elk's Crossing. She was quite accepting of our two large dogs staying with us at the cottage. I liked that. Overall, we had a great stay. The only caution I would offer, is the 10 steps leading down from the driveway to the front door. If you have mobility issues, this will be a problem for you. If stairs don't bother you, you'll enjoy the distance that exists from the front door to the street, adding to the quiet of the place. Once you're in the house, the only other stairs you will face are the stairs leading from the back deck down to the lower deck and hot tub.

Other than the stairs issue for those who can't negotiate a climb, I highly recommend Elks Crossing. It's a lovely getaway in the tall pines.

Owner's Response: Sylvia, I am thrilled that you and your daughter enjoyed your stay at the cottage! Your review was wonderful and very much appreciated. We have had the same housekeeper since owing the cottage and have been pleased with the personal care and pride she takes in keeping things clean and comfortable. You are so correct about the lovely daily visits of the deer! Sometimes an elk will show up too....adding an extra treat for us! Gods grandeur of nature...the mountains and so forth, are priceless . It would be our pleasure to have you join us again! Take care! Blessings to you both, Jannelle

Cozy, comfortable, and a great location.

  • 4 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay. The location was great for eating out, a trip to the grocery store and also for skiing. The beds were super comfy and the back deck and hot tub were a nice treat. Deer each morning to great you and a nice cozy fire place to warm you at night. Would highly recommend for a weekend get away for a small family or a couple. My husband and I had our 2 teenage boys with us and they loved it.

We love this place

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoy the journey. My daughter fed the deers everyday, which is very unique experience to her. The owner is very thoughtful and leaves a Christmas tree in the room during our visitation. Great time. I definitely recommend it for vacation

Owner's Response: We are so very pleased that you and your family enjoyed your time at the cottage! Yes, those deer love our guests just as much as they enjoy them, I believe. I love the festivities of the holidays and plan to always have Christmas trees up at both the cottage and cabin. We usually try to get them up soon after Thanksgiving...and leave til mid-January. Hope you will join us again! Have a Blessed New Year! Jannelle
