A perfect honeymoon in paradise

  • 5 of 5

Before arriving at the Hermitage Jewel, we literally had not planned a thing beyond the flights/house and had only a few vague ideas from websites of experiences we thought "might be fun" (we are busy PhD students). We initially worried if this was a mistake when we learned that Dian had retired since her great reviews were a big part of the reason we booked the villa. However, we soon realized we had nothing to fear in the expert hands of Charlene, the new property manager who has lived on the island for many years and has a great contact network as well as insights of a local. She helped us create the most perfect honeymoon experience beyond even our wildest dreams- even though we arrived with nothing planned! She completely understood the types of experiences we were looking for and set us up with the best guides, tours and itineraries that made our week consist of maximum fun with no stress or time wasted. She made all the calls and reservations so that all we had to do was get in the car when it arrived! And she gave us a cell phone that worked everywhere on the island so we were always in contact with her if we needed it. With her help, we got to do so many great things, but avoided all the tourist traps/rush hours and had truly memorable, private and personalized experiences that we will cherish for a lifetime. While we joked that everything we did was our new “favorite” experience, our highlights were a sailing/snorkeling tour, hiking the Gros Piton, a hike through the rainforest to a waterfall, the sulphur springs, and of course just relaxing at the beach and at the villa. Our driver, Lion, was not only reliable and safe, but an absolute joy to have spent time with. Every ride was a worthwhile experience in itself and was like having a personal tour guide. The house has the most breathtaking views we have ever seen and every sunset will leave you in awe. The ride to gorgeous beaches with world class snorkeling/scuba was only 10 minutes away. Glenda made us the most creative and delicious breakfasts and every day made the house look like new. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook nearly every night ourselves, experimenting with local produce/dishes that Lion gave us tips on preparing. To keep it simple, you will not regret booking this amazing house on this spectacular island. The people here truly make it a special experience like no other. Since reviews must be short here, we urge anyone wanting to know more to reach out to us!

Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four (kids ages 5 and 9) just spent a wonderful month at the villa. We LOVED it and it was just perfect as a home base for our many adventures! We loved the open feel of the villa, the cool temperatures and mountain breezes, the inspiring view of the pitons, the refreshing pool, the lovely porch with living and dining room, the beautiful gardens, the night bug sounds, the rain on the tin roof, the resident lizards and birds, and the well-equipped kitchen perfect for cooking in! The location near Soufriere was perfect too--away from the touristy north, but close to a number of great beaches, snorkeling sites, hiking opportunities, and small boutique resorts with great restaurants and beaches. We loved going to the Saturday morning market in Soufriere, and shopped regularly at the grocery store, butcher, and bakery in town. Other highlights include: hiking Gros Piton, chocolate tour through Anse Chastanet/Jade Mountain, kayaking in Marigot Bay, visiting Latille waterfall near Dennery, hiking and swimming at Pigeon Point, Tet Paul nature trail, snorkeling at Sugar Beach, Anse Chastanet, and Freedom Bay, sailing charter with Mystic Man, the Choisel art gallery, and our 3-day trip to Martinique for rum distillary tours, great beaches and snorkeling, and the slave museum! For great meals, try Boucon, Dasheen, Fedos, Petite Peak, Volcano, and the lunch buffet at Fond Deaux estate. Like the other reviews, we also can't rave enough about the house staff, especially Glenda and Neverweary! Glenda arrived every morning with a smile on her face and fixed the most amazing breakfasts, with fresh fruit, fresh juices and smoothies, omlets, pumpkin pancakes, crepes, Johnny cakes, tomato salad, and fresh baked local bread. We were in heaven every morning! She also kept the place spotless and put up with the kids fighting and making a mess. We used Neverweary as our driver for the first week (rented a car for the last 3 weeks) and he was an amazing tour guide of the island with a vast knowledge of the island plants and culture. Go see his band at Ladera--you will not be disappointed! Charlene was a helpful property manager and checked in with us frequently to help plan tours and make suggestions. And, Eddie and GG (the gardener--unsure of name spelling) were very friendly and kept the grounds in perfect shape! Altogether, we could not have imagined a more perfect place to stay! Thanks!!

Living the Carribean high life up on the mountain!

  • 5 of 5

It's would be hard for me to beat the many awesome reviews/experiences shared by others thus far. Great property in a great location with beyond fabulous view. It was my husband, myself and our 16-year old son on his spring break. The space couldn't have been more perfect and exceeded our needs & expectations. We found the area to be perfect for doing activities and didn't spend loads of time driving from place to place. We went diving w/ Chester, climbed Gros Piton (yes, it's a challenge!), tried kite-surfing down in Vieux Fort, enjoyed the botanical gardens and a private bath in the mineral springs (very fun) and spent our time at Sugar Beach (very expensive so take food or prepare yourself for a large lunch bill) and Anse Chastanet (more reasonable than Sugar Beach). Both beaches were beautiful though our son enjoyed the crazy amount of activity going on at Sugar Beach. He also liked the "imported" white sand vs. the black volcanic sand of A.C. We also enjoyed the beach in Vieux Fort on 2 separate times and found it to be totally different but just as enjoyable.

We dined at Boucan twice but particularly enjoyed the buffet they do once a week. The food was outstanding! As well, we thought the food at Dasheene's was phenomenal. There are lots of reviews about the expense (true) but we thought it was worth the price especially when you're dining in a most unusual setting overlooking the Pitons and listening to a fabulous reggae band (Neverweary!). We also had Andy bring in the most fabulous spread of food you can imagine for an even more unimaginable price. I think we had Andy deliver food at least 4 times. After being out and about all day, there was nothing like coming home to the villa and having a gourmet feast delivered to our door. HIGHLY recommend Andy!

And to top it all-the villa has the best people!! Dian made sure all of our needs were met/exceeded. She was a phone call away and was always available to set things up for us whether dining, diving or having Adab make beautiful wood staphs for us to take home. Glenda greeted us each morning with amazing breakfasts and her beautiful smile. She was always a delight. And last, but certainly not least, is Neverweary. He was prompt, knowledgeable and johnny-on-the-spot for so much! We loved learning the rasta way of life! They all insisted on taking care of us and let us simply relax and vacation. It was a theme throughout our stay. Pitsticks from Cincinnati, OH

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a great week at Hermitage Jewel and while the Villa is great, my review is on the staff. Thank you Dian, Glenda and Neverweary for a fantastic week. We have stayed at several 5 star resorts and hotels and have never received the level of service you three provided. Let's face it there are a lot of great VRBO's that are nice and have great views, but you would be hard pressed to find one with your own personal driver and tour guide (obviously for a fee but worth every penny) Neverweary might be the hardest working guy in St Lucia and the most knowledgeable about the island and the fruits and plants on it. He's an absolute joy to be around and a hell of a singer, gotta go watch his band play.

Waking up every morning knowing Glenda would be there to cook breakfast was a real treat. She always came with fresh juice and or coco (right out of the yard) and different fruits every day. She was always happy to help in any way she could.

Dian is excellent at managing the villa. From the moment we arrived we felt right at home. She greeted us with one of the best Rum punches I've had. She can take care of any excursions, Dinner reservations or probably anything else you desire and at a cheaper rate than most. She's from the states but has been in St. Lucia for 40 years, so she knows all the best places.

If and when we ever decide to visit St. Lucia again I would not stay anywhere else, as long as I received the same level of service. Oh and yes the pictures don't do the view justice. Waking up every morning with that view was amazing!

Shangra-La

  • 5 of 5

We've been going to Castries since 2003, but this was our first time staying near Soufriere. The only way to describe the beauty of the place is words like Paradise or Shangra-La. The views are breathtaking, and the property is loaded with colorful plants, flowers, fruit trees, and just amazing foliage. Totally private, bedrooms with the looking out between the Pitons and the ocean. There aren't many views anywhere that are better than this one. The villa is charmingly rustic, and my favorite place to hang out was the patio, surrounded by stonework walls and again, with the incredible view to the ocean.

Dian was extremely helpful before, during and after our visit. We had accidentally left some jewelry after our stay was over, and not even knowing at the time it was missing, we received a call from Dian letting us know about it. She even arranged for it to be returned to us on the other side of the island.

She also has an amazing amount of knowledge that is really useful to tourists. For example, she told us which mineral baths to ask for when we went to the Botanical Gardens. Most tourists would never know to ask. She will help you as much or as little as you need.

Glenda is the housekeeper, and she prepares bread/jam, different fruits and juices every day. We purchased eggs and stuff for omelettes, and Glenda made us breakfast most days. Like Dian, we can't say enough about her.

NeverWeary is a really cool Rasta guy who is taxi driver and maintenance guy for the villa. His taxi prices are very reasonable, and he's a great guy too.

There is a pool guy and gardener, and both were pleasant and provided great service. They have snorkeling equipment, beach towels, there is cable TV but the place is really not set up to watch TV. Bring your own I-pod player or music box. We had Dian arrange for a massuese to come to the house and provide massages....and we had them in the outside cabana next to the pool...excellent. By the way, the view of the mountains/ocean from the pool is just as unbelievable as mentioned earlier. This is a great place for adults, especially honeymooners or maybe 2 couples, or a family that wants to share a vacation together.

An unforgettable experience!!!

  • 5 of 5

Words and thorough descriptions can not do this place justice. My wife and I just spent a week at the villa and had the most amazing trip. We had the best experience in large part to the wonderful staff at the villa. Dian, the manager, was so pleasant and wonderful to work with. She was prompt when getting back to us with questions prior to the trip starting. When we arrived, she was there waiting for us to welcome us to the villa as well. She was also so generous in planning excursions, making reservations, and going above and beyond to make sure we were having a great trip.

Glenda, the house maid/cook, was incredible. I don't know if there is a nicer person. She was there every morning with a smile on her face. The breakfasts she created were out of this world. Our breakfasts were filled with amazing fruits, breads, cheeses, jellies, and so much more. Also, she did a great job at making the villa clean and tidy on a daily basis. We felt like we were in a 5 star hotel.

Last, but not least, was the incredible driver, Never Weary. Never Weary was with us almost everyday driving us to and from and being our phenominal tour guide. Because of him, we felt like we truly got a local St. Lucian experience and vacation. He showed us the sites, told us countless stories, and just gave us an experience we will never forget. Also, we were able to see his band play twice. They were so much fun to watch.

Staying at this villa was truly like staying in a hotel. There were all of the people there to help and the amenities that one would need, but at a fraction of the cost and were able to offer a great local experience. Not too mention, you are secluded and everything is so private. There is no question in our mind that this was the best place to stay on the island. We will absolutely come back again for another stay.
