Slice of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

We travel a lot and this has got to be one of the very best homes we have stayed at. We were greeted at the airport by a driver who took us to the villa and through the week took us to beaches and one day to a nearby town for market and helped us buy local fish and herbs. then he spent an hour or so at the villa preparing the fish and marinade and explaining the whole process. we ate as St Lucians for 2 days on that treasure. The property manager checked in on us several times and visited to ensure everything about our stay was working smoothly. Eddie the gardener was there virtually every day cleaning the pool and grounds, and he always had a joke and a pleasant greeting. Our housekeeper Glenda came 6 days per week and prepared a gourmet breakfast with excellent local coffee and fruits. She always had a smile, kept the villa spotless and was a wealth of information about the local attractions. The home itself was magnificent. Made of stone and beautiful wooden doors with a spectacular view of the Pitons and Sugar Beach. Quite simply a perfect vacation spot.

Excellent property

  • 5 of 5

Just got home a few days ago from an 11-night stay at this villa. Traveling were two adults and two children (ages 20 and 22). We loved it!

Special recognition should go to Glenda, our housekeeper/cook. We eagerly anticipated her breakfast each morning. Loved the fresh juices and smoothies she made. Her omelettes, crepes and Johnnycakes were also a great hit! We also were able to work it out for Glenda to come back one night and cook dinner for us. Another huge hit! She made a full dinner, much like what locals might have for a nice Sunday dinner. Wish we would have arranged for her to make more dinners for us... Glenda also did a fantastic job of keeping the house clean and tidy. Plus, she's just a genuinely nice person.

Most of the days we went on adventures with Lion as our driver. He did a great job bringing us to local beaches, bakeries, restaurants, and a small place in Laborie that served fried chicken, fried dumplings, and "local juice" (delicious! passion fruit and lime the day we went).

We also spent a couple days just relaxing at the house, soaking up the setting (Eddie does a great job maintaining the grounds) and enjoying the sun and pool.

Charlene (house manager) was also in frequent communication and booked us a 4-wheeler trip (with Mystic Man Adventures) through the countryside. On that trip we visited two old sugar mills and two secluded beaches. Pickup and drop-off at the house was included.

Can't say enough about the setting. Not sure what we'll do with the huge number of sunset and rainbow pictures we took. The views are so amazing they look as if they've been photoshopped.

All in all, an excellent rental!

A wonderful week in St Lucia

  • 5 of 5

The incredible view of Petit Piton smacks you in the face at the top of the driveway and doesn't lose a bit of 'jaw-drop' for the entire stay. The house is well appointed and nicely decorated with local art. Glenda, the housekeeper, keeps the place immaculate and prepares wonderful breakfast daily (buy additional ingredients and she'll make most anything). The property is very private; Eddy, the grounds keeper, maintains the tropical garden that has a profusion of flowers and the plunge pool. We were entertained by the small birds flitting in and out of the house constantly.

Although the steep, winding roads and left hand drive were a bit intimidating at first we quickly became used to them and were very glad to have the independence of having a car. Found that having lunch as the main meal of the day worked well, and minimized driving the roads at night. Highly recommend the restaurants at Sugar Beach, Anse Chastenet, Jade Mountain and Orlando's. Would definitely avoid the Tuesday night BBQ at Boucan, and we were not impressed by dinner at Ladera.

A perfect honeymoon in paradise

  • 5 of 5

Before arriving at the Hermitage Jewel, we literally had not planned a thing beyond the flights/house and had only a few vague ideas from websites of experiences we thought "might be fun" (we are busy PhD students). We initially worried if this was a mistake when we learned that Dian had retired since her great reviews were a big part of the reason we booked the villa. However, we soon realized we had nothing to fear in the expert hands of Charlene, the new property manager who has lived on the island for many years and has a great contact network as well as insights of a local. She helped us create the most perfect honeymoon experience beyond even our wildest dreams- even though we arrived with nothing planned! She completely understood the types of experiences we were looking for and set us up with the best guides, tours and itineraries that made our week consist of maximum fun with no stress or time wasted. She made all the calls and reservations so that all we had to do was get in the car when it arrived! And she gave us a cell phone that worked everywhere on the island so we were always in contact with her if we needed it. With her help, we got to do so many great things, but avoided all the tourist traps/rush hours and had truly memorable, private and personalized experiences that we will cherish for a lifetime. While we joked that everything we did was our new “favorite” experience, our highlights were a sailing/snorkeling tour, hiking the Gros Piton, a hike through the rainforest to a waterfall, the sulphur springs, and of course just relaxing at the beach and at the villa. Our driver, Lion, was not only reliable and safe, but an absolute joy to have spent time with. Every ride was a worthwhile experience in itself and was like having a personal tour guide. The house has the most breathtaking views we have ever seen and every sunset will leave you in awe. The ride to gorgeous beaches with world class snorkeling/scuba was only 10 minutes away. Glenda made us the most creative and delicious breakfasts and every day made the house look like new. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook nearly every night ourselves, experimenting with local produce/dishes that Lion gave us tips on preparing. To keep it simple, you will not regret booking this amazing house on this spectacular island. The people here truly make it a special experience like no other. Since reviews must be short here, we urge anyone wanting to know more to reach out to us!

Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four (kids ages 5 and 9) just spent a wonderful month at the villa. We LOVED it and it was just perfect as a home base for our many adventures! We loved the open feel of the villa, the cool temperatures and mountain breezes, the inspiring view of the pitons, the refreshing pool, the lovely porch with living and dining room, the beautiful gardens, the night bug sounds, the rain on the tin roof, the resident lizards and birds, and the well-equipped kitchen perfect for cooking in! The location near Soufriere was perfect too--away from the touristy north, but close to a number of great beaches, snorkeling sites, hiking opportunities, and small boutique resorts with great restaurants and beaches. We loved going to the Saturday morning market in Soufriere, and shopped regularly at the grocery store, butcher, and bakery in town. Other highlights include: hiking Gros Piton, chocolate tour through Anse Chastanet/Jade Mountain, kayaking in Marigot Bay, visiting Latille waterfall near Dennery, hiking and swimming at Pigeon Point, Tet Paul nature trail, snorkeling at Sugar Beach, Anse Chastanet, and Freedom Bay, sailing charter with Mystic Man, the Choisel art gallery, and our 3-day trip to Martinique for rum distillary tours, great beaches and snorkeling, and the slave museum! For great meals, try Boucon, Dasheen, Fedos, Petite Peak, Volcano, and the lunch buffet at Fond Deaux estate. Like the other reviews, we also can't rave enough about the house staff, especially Glenda and Neverweary! Glenda arrived every morning with a smile on her face and fixed the most amazing breakfasts, with fresh fruit, fresh juices and smoothies, omlets, pumpkin pancakes, crepes, Johnny cakes, tomato salad, and fresh baked local bread. We were in heaven every morning! She also kept the place spotless and put up with the kids fighting and making a mess. We used Neverweary as our driver for the first week (rented a car for the last 3 weeks) and he was an amazing tour guide of the island with a vast knowledge of the island plants and culture. Go see his band at Ladera--you will not be disappointed! Charlene was a helpful property manager and checked in with us frequently to help plan tours and make suggestions. And, Eddie and GG (the gardener--unsure of name spelling) were very friendly and kept the grounds in perfect shape! Altogether, we could not have imagined a more perfect place to stay! Thanks!!

Living the Carribean high life up on the mountain!

  • 5 of 5

It's would be hard for me to beat the many awesome reviews/experiences shared by others thus far. Great property in a great location with beyond fabulous view. It was my husband, myself and our 16-year old son on his spring break. The space couldn't have been more perfect and exceeded our needs & expectations. We found the area to be perfect for doing activities and didn't spend loads of time driving from place to place. We went diving w/ Chester, climbed Gros Piton (yes, it's a challenge!), tried kite-surfing down in Vieux Fort, enjoyed the botanical gardens and a private bath in the mineral springs (very fun) and spent our time at Sugar Beach (very expensive so take food or prepare yourself for a large lunch bill) and Anse Chastanet (more reasonable than Sugar Beach). Both beaches were beautiful though our son enjoyed the crazy amount of activity going on at Sugar Beach. He also liked the "imported" white sand vs. the black volcanic sand of A.C. We also enjoyed the beach in Vieux Fort on 2 separate times and found it to be totally different but just as enjoyable.

We dined at Boucan twice but particularly enjoyed the buffet they do once a week. The food was outstanding! As well, we thought the food at Dasheene's was phenomenal. There are lots of reviews about the expense (true) but we thought it was worth the price especially when you're dining in a most unusual setting overlooking the Pitons and listening to a fabulous reggae band (Neverweary!). We also had Andy bring in the most fabulous spread of food you can imagine for an even more unimaginable price. I think we had Andy deliver food at least 4 times. After being out and about all day, there was nothing like coming home to the villa and having a gourmet feast delivered to our door. HIGHLY recommend Andy!

And to top it all-the villa has the best people!! Dian made sure all of our needs were met/exceeded. She was a phone call away and was always available to set things up for us whether dining, diving or having Adab make beautiful wood staphs for us to take home. Glenda greeted us each morning with amazing breakfasts and her beautiful smile. She was always a delight. And last, but certainly not least, is Neverweary. He was prompt, knowledgeable and johnny-on-the-spot for so much! We loved learning the rasta way of life! They all insisted on taking care of us and let us simply relax and vacation. It was a theme throughout our stay. Pitsticks from Cincinnati, OH

What makes this villa unique

Private villa which is very romantic having spectacular views, near two excellent restaurants and bars with entertainment. Hermitage Jewel is near beach and town making it convenient to shop for provisions. Villa offers cooler temps because of high elevation.

Housekeeper provides a local complimentary breakfast, of fresh seasonal fruit, local coffee, tea, fresh smoothies, bread, jam/jelly, and butter, artfully prepared and served by Glenda 6 days a week.
