Welcome to New-Orleans!
Bienvenue à La Nouvelle-Orléans pour les francophones! Oui, on parle francais.
We survived Katrina, no floods, minor damage ( the cottage was built on high grounds, facing the Mississippi river, where Native Indians, early French settlers and their West-African slaves used to live in the 1720's).
We are blessed and thankful. Our thoughts still go the victims of this disaster.
Come and visit our great city.

Also check our 'MONDECREOLE Secret Courtyards/ Private homes & CEMETERY walking tour'/ THE INSIDER'S FRENCH QUARTER. 80% of the 2h30mn tour takes place behind locked doors and explore the lives of old creole families from New-Orleans.
1) Walk through closed gates and, surrounded by the stillness of secluded, tropical courtyards, step into the mysterious and forgotten story of those long dead. Amid patios of profuse and entangled beauty, meet the spectors & mirrors from the past: the European and the African branches of these legendary Louisiana dynasties.
From grand & distinctive townhouses to original slave quarters, hear about french immigrants, white & black aristocrats, free people of colour, slaves, changing society after the Civil War and the birth of JAZZ while a culture tragically dissolves. Discover where, how they lived and their intimate secrets shared only with VOODOO queens of long ago...
2) Hear also about Historic Haunts & places, myths & legends:
Infamous figures such as Marie Laveau and Jean Lafitte make appearances, as do Napoleon House and a possible yellow fever morgue. The tour offers historical context for the legends surrounding these people and places, suggesting where the myths could have originated without necessarily debunking them.
The city is full of wonderful mysteries, which add to the flavor of our history. We intend to reveal different layers of the stories so that people may understand how and why each legend came to be.'
Visitors will learn about the ghastly details of each haunted location and then learn about the historical time period in which they occurred. The tour begins with the settling of New Orleans, when young French and Senegalese women were sent to the colony as brides for male settlers. They were rumored to have brought vampires along with them. The tour also explains the atmosphere of death and decay that pervaded the city during the massive outbreaks of yellow fever in the mid-1800s.
Frommer's says it is the most fascinating, unexpected, exclusive tour in town, much more historically accurate and entertaining than all the regular touristy haunted history tours.

I am Paul and we thank you very much for visiting our homepage. I grew up between the USA and France. What a better place to be than Louisiana?
Paul. purchased this House in 1999
Why Paul. chose Faubourg Marigny
New-Orleans is wonderful and a unique place for its history. Bourbon Street can be a lot of fun, no one there thinks moderation is a virtue ! But do you really want to stay there during your stay? We much prefer the authentic 'Faubourg Marigny', this is the real New-Orleans, with its little corner shops and our historic home is a nice, quiet retreat full of old charm, hidden by a tropical jungle-type private front-yard/ front porch. They are foremost concerned about the rebuilding of our city, wetland issues, global warming, sustainnable development and how to create a clean, green & better city for next generations.
What makes this House unique
The house stands in the middle of a friendly, progressive, quiet, family oriented and safe neighborhood. It is also close to the best attractions in town. Walking distance for groceries as well. Thanks to the lush front yard, its tropical plants, the cottage is also a nice secluded retreat providing complete privacy and a comforting sense of peace with its own 'mystique'.

Like living in a different period. The ultimate creole experience. Owner/host is the best we have ever encountered on VRBO!
Beautiful house with tons of charm and perfect location.
Our stay in Paul house was perfect. The house is very large with 2 bedrooms and a huge double living space (several couches and many armchairs). It has tons of charm, lots of antiques and various local artifacts. I was amazed by the variety of vintage lamps, paintings and photos. The kitchen is large and properly equiped. One bathroom with a tub which was perfect for us. And the location is the best : very quiet beautiful residential street 2 blocks to Bourbon street and 2 block to Frenchman street. 2 delicious breakfast restaurants both 1 block away and the gourmet supermarket 3 blocks away. Unless you are looking for ultramodern amenities, I feel it's the best place to stay in New Orleans and feel the vibe of the city.
Hi Jerome, thank you very much for your nice review. I am happy to know that you and your family enjoyed your stay the Big Easy ! Caprice is the oldest house in the Marigny ( original mantles, cypres floor, beams ) and we try to preserve it the best we can. All best. Paul.
Wonderful historically preserved cottage close to it all.
The amazing house was beautifully preserved with all the old hardware still intact. Great location in a quiet neighborhood yet close enough to the action. The host was great as was the entire experience!
Hello Zachary, thank you very much for your nice review !
Yes, preservation is the key word. It is the oldest house in the Marigny Triangle with a lot of history. I hope you will consider staying at Caprice creole cottage for your next visit to New-Orleans. Best regards. Paul.
Charming historical home, great location.
Charming historical home, great location!
Thanks a lot !
Paul & Debra.
Shabby and chic as advertised , but
The property was clean and well equipped except for the fact there are NO closets. I realize a cottage this old was not built with closets but what about tha addition of armoires? In addition all the dressers were jam packed with linens which further made the storage of clothing impossible. Living out of a suitcase!!
A hot tub was advertised. Perhaps it's semantics. The jetted BATHTUB we found was indeed the hot tub!! We decided that 4 of us sitting in the bathtub in the bathroom with a cocktail just wouldn't work!!!
The location was perfect and Debra and Ron very accommodating.
Clean, prime location, great communication with the property manager.
Great place to stay! The location is perfect, easy walks to French quarter and Frenchmen St. Debra was very helpful. Highly recommend this place.
Hello Scott, thank you very much for your post, Debra and i are happy that you enjoyed your stay at Caprice creole cottage. Best regards to you !
In the Faubourg Marigny, 2 minutes walking from the French Quarter & Frenchmen street/ best place for Jazz, music lovers. Quiet house, built 1803, hidden behind a tropical front yard. We are also 4 blocks from the Faubourg Treme, the African-American Museum, Voodoo Temple, Backstreet Cultural Museum, Saint-Augustine Church and much more!
