Nice 3 Bedroom 1 Bathroom Cabin Overlooking Shenandoah Valley

Please Read The Entire Description:

This is now our most popular cabin. The cabin has been updated inside and it is nice. We have posted some initial indoor photos, but we hope to have some better photos coming soon. We have this priced lower than we normally would until we work on the outside because there are some improvements that we still want to make during this time period. Because it is always booked, we've not done much of anything to the outside of the cabin since we bought it. This is a good problem to have, but I want everything perfect on the outside and we aren't quite there yet... but be soon hopefully.

Forest Edge Overlook, sits at the end of a private dead end road that directly borders the George Washington National Forest. The cabin has 3 bedrooms, one bathroom and a loft (with low ceilings) with several 6 mattresses in it (two twin, 3 full and one queen). The bathroom has a garden size soaker tub/shower with real river rock walls hand picked from our land on the river below. The kitchen has all new wood cabinets and stainless steel appliances and a real river rock back splash. The counter tops were custom made out of hickory and fit with the decor perfectly. The front door is even dutch style, which opens up from both the top and the bottom. This place has character!!! You will not find this with any new construction property! This being said, it is not new construction and is an old cabin and therefore it will have quirks and such, but isn't that why you wanted to come stay at a cabin in the first place? :)

The large 80+ year old stone fireplace is amazing and is the centerpiece of the living room and extends all the way up through the roof. There is currently a wood stove in the fireplace and there is a glass door so that you can see the fire. The ceiling in the loft is not very high, but most adults should be able to fit. The loft is not recommended for kids under 4 years of age simply because you have to climb a ladder to access it.

Outside there is a nice size deck from which you can see into the valley below when there are no leaves. During the Summer months the leaves hide the cabin from the rest of the world below. We are currently (in between guests) working on updating/remodeling the decks.

The cabin does have a wood stove and an outdoor fire pit. Firewood may be purchased upon arrival (please do not bring your own firewood whereas it can spread the Emerald Ash Borer).

Next to the cabin is an old cobbler shop which we hope to remodel someday (it currently has rather unattractive old asphalt red shingle siding) as a honeymoon suite or getaway of its own. We have not done any landscaping to the outside of the cabin and the grounds are rustic... the two garages also need to be cosmetically remodeled two and we hope to get to that sooner than later. We are also planning on adding more parking and removing an old stone wall to make room for more vehicles... there is currently enough room for 4 vehicles.

We do allow for one night stays, but there is two night minimum for weekend stays (either Friday and Saturday night or Saturday & Sunday nights). Pets are welcome, but we do require a Pet Fee of $65 per pet. Forest Edge Overlook is a great place to see the stars. On clear nights, you can see thousands of stars overhead. It is a beautiful sight. Also during the spring and summer months, you can see humming birds everywhere. We place feeders off the front porch of the house and have personally seen upwards of 20 birds feeding on them at one time.

Check in time is 4:00 pm until 10 pm and checkout is 11 am. Early checkins, before 4, or Late checkins, after 10 pm, and late checkouts, after 11 am, require a $20 per hour fee. Please ask in advance about late checkins.

No smoking in the cabin. No beer pong or Hookahs. Noise must kept to a minimum and quiet hours are 9 pm to 9 am.

Guests are required to sign a rental agreement upon arrival and a photo ID. For this reason, the person who makes the reservation has to be the there at the time of check-in, unless the contract is signed and arrangements are made for someone else to check-in in advance.

The house can fit 16 people. However, at least some would need to be children. Remember, there is only 1 bathroom.

We believe service is what sets us apart in the vacation rental industry. Katie & I personally own every cabin that we manage. We check-in all of our guests personally. We are always available. We really mean it when we say that we are always available. If you need us at 4 am or have a problem, please do not ever hesitate to let us know. This is all we do 24/7 and we want all of our guests to have an amazing stay. If something is wrong, we really want to know. We would be honored if you would allow us the opportunity to serve you.

Pets are welcome at all of our properties. If you or someone in your group is allergic to pets or anything else (detergent, air fresheners, etc), please let us know in advance so we can discuss this prior to your booking and then also prior to your arrival.

Because this is a real cabin, there are things you should expect to find in an older real cabin such as spider webs (we clean them for every guest but they do reappear quickly), ladybugs, insects, tiny critters & stink bug(s) during certain times of the year.

All pet fee(s), early check-in or late check-out, firewood or extra person fees are not refundable once paid.

Failure to show up/check in or contact owner before midnight of day of arrival will result in cancellation. Host reserves the right to rebook property if guest does NOT contact owner.

Illegal drugs will not permitted on our properties under any circumstances. Smoking is not permitted inside any house or cabin or on any screen porch. There will be a $750 charge for any smoking in either of these areas. Illegal drugs being used anywhere on the property will result in a $750 charge. Kegs and hookahs are not permitted anywhere on property under any circumstances. There will be a $500 charge should either of these items (kegs or hookahs) be found on the property (this includes outside areas too). If smoking (inside or on screen porches), illegal drugs (meaning what is illegal in Virginia), keg(s), hookah(s) or fireworks (there is a $500 fine for having fireworks or for shooting firearms at a property) are found on the property the guest will be asked to leave and there will be no refund whatsoever for any portion of the stay (including any future days/nights). Guests failing to check-out by 11 am agree to pay $50 an hour for a late check-out beginning at 11:01 am. If the guest is still there at 12:00 noon then then the charge is another $50 and so on with each additional hour the guest overstays their reservation. Late check-outs require prior written permission and applicable late check-out fees to be paid.

Owners are not responsible to mail or hold on to left items.

We have four daughters. One who is 6 another who is 3 and then the third daughter turned 2 in June. And newest arrival, our 4th daughter was born in October 2015. :) We moved here from Texas for me (Steven) to finish my college degree and Katie was a middle school teacher until 2013. We fell into the vacation rental business accidentally when we bought the cabin next to our house to keep it from falling into disarray and had to figure out how to make the mortgage payment on it. We started by renting out that first cabin in June of 2011, we now both do this full time while raising our girls. This is far harder than anything either of us has ever done and we are now at 53+ months without a single day off. Neither of us had ever heard the term, "the innkeeper never sleeps" and now we live it everyday. This is all we do every single day of the year. If you need something on Christmas or any other holiday we're always available to help.

With that in mind, please know though that we're not a big company and we have no outside investors... we are just a husband and wife (with 4 young kids) trying our best to create great vacation memories for our guests. We personally own every property that we rent out. Our cabins are not perfect, but they do have character, history & warmth. We believe that we are far more honest than any of the competition when it comes to our properties listings. You will find full descriptions of each property that list the good and the bad (our properties are not perfect, but that is only because we do not yet have the finances to make them perfect... they will all get there though as funds permit). Our properties are always improving though since we put every last dime back into the business to keep improving things.

If you are looking to stay someplace that is unique then you'll love it here. If you are looking for perfection, then this may not be a good fit. Our cabins, cottages and houses are real cabins, cottages and older houses.

This cabin has direct access to several hiking trails that go back into the George Washington National Forest and is our most secluded cabin. This is our most secluded cabin and has the best views, especially in the winter when there are no leaves on the trees.

  • The master bedroom has a king size bed. Then the second and third bedrooms each have queen size beds. The loft has 1 queen, 3 full and 2 single mattresses in it. :) It is recommended for kids at least 4 years old and adults 30 or younger.

good weekend location

Good place for the weekend. Neat location. AC for the whole place was a portable air conditioner, and it was marginal at best. The evenings were cool in Jul, and we just opened the windows for a great night's sleep even know there were no screens. The kitchen was well appointed and the beds comfortable. The loft is tight, so when they say it is really for kids, they mean it! Nice deck with a combo gas/charcoal grill too.

Not worth the money it cost

Greetings: because the owner did not get the text receipt of the pet deposit I felt I was treated like I was trying to get by with not doing right. Had to sign and initial at least five pages. Was told if I needed anything to contact owner. Contacted owner by text several times - never received a reply. There was no hot water at the kitchen sink, the water was a "rusty" color when bath was drawn, Bought bottled water because I was a little afraid of the color.

The view was very nice and it was very quiet. Good hiking. I have stayed at other cabins for half the price and received better conditions. I like the mountains but would not rent this cabin again.

Lovely Cabin

Our family of five spent most of Christmas week in the cabin. It is very accommodating, just as described. We did not use the loft area, as my teenage son was freaked out about the stink bugs that convened there (I think I saw three). Katie was super helpful and answered all of our questions quickly. I loved the grounds of the cabin and the meandering stonework. Spring or fall might be an opportune time to enjoy them. Great sunrises from the dining room or deck.

Great Getaway

My fiance, dog and I greatly enjoyed our stay at the Forest Edge Overlook Cabin. The cabin was outfitted with many amenities that made our stay a great one. Fully stocked kitchen and comfy beds made the return to the cabin after long days of hiking that much better. The property manager was a nice guy who stocked us up with fire wood and even got a bonfire started for us as we unpacked upon arrival.

Relaxing time surrounded by nature

A quaint, secluded cabin with all the luxuries of home. The reason I picked this property, besides how picturesque it is, was the fact it had internet, tv and a dishwasher. The king size bed was very comfortable and the kitchen had all the necessities for me to prepare meals easily. My husband is still talking about all the different kinds of animals he observed on our trip. It was a fabulous get away for him because he is a workaholic and we just slept in, took walks together in the woods, played cards and just enjoyed the surroundings, while celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary.

Wonderful cabin with privacy

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend it to others. The cabin was very nice and had all the amenities we were looking for. The customer service was good and the cabin was really clean. It was really nice to find a place that would allow us to bring our German Shepard with us. Having our dog limited the activities we could partake in but there was plenty to do in the surrounding areas. We would definitely rent this cabin again. I do advise you come in a truck, suv or something with 4wd as the driveway is a little steep and bumpy.
