About Melissa Denlinger

My husband and I are avid world travelers and as we journeyed, we fell in love with Zihuatanejo. In fact, we loved it so much, we got married here! We had a dream of leaving the city and our breakneck speed jobs and opening a bed and breakfast. It only seemed natural to move to the place that inspired a sense of renewal and retreat in us so that we could share it with our guests.

We have a wonderful group of friends that we've developed over the last few years of building Solana (we just opened January 1, 2014!). We spend a lot of time just relaxing and laughing with them - sharing dinner at one of our favorite restaurants on the beach, meeting for coffee in town and watching the fishermen bring in their catch, taking a drive out to the archeological ruins outside of town or going kayaking on the bay. We love to garden and have been learning all we can about local fauna as well as experimenting with growing our favorite vegetables, fruits and herbs on the property. We are excited to share our knowledge of the area and some good stories with you.

Melissa Denlinger purchased this villa in 2013

Why Melissa Denlinger chose Zihuatanejo

The view from our property is unmatched - we have a panoramic view of Zihuatanejo Bay and beyond. We were able to design and build our dream home, taking care to integrate it with the surrounding wildlife and amazing natural forest. Even though this is now our 'job', living and working at Solana really does feel like we are escaping the world every single day.

What makes this villa unique

Our location on the hillside provides blissful breezes all day long. As a new build, everything is fresh, clean and uniquely ours. We incorporated many environmentally friendly features into our project including grey water recycling to irrigate our gardens, building on less than a third of our land allowing for ample garden space, preserving our local trees, flora and fauna and utilizing a salt water pool. We designed our custom Mexican linens at a family-run textile factory in Patzcuaro, our bamboo furniture from a local artisan and even our lamps have a story!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We just returned from our fourth visit to Zihuatanejo and our first stay at Casa Solana. We rented the property for a week to accommodate our large family (nine adults). Casa Solana was everything we had hoped for -- beautiful views of Playa La Ropa and the bay, private grounds, and clean, well-designed rooms.

We arranged to have some meals onsite and worked with owner Melissa and her staff to come up with interesting menus that included a special dinner for 18 people. Melissa is a delight. She took an active interest in creating a memorable experience for our family and was scrupulous in tracking purchases (food and drink) on our behalf.

The end result was one of our best family vacations. We look forward to staying again.

Beautiful, friendly, clean B&B

  • 5 of 5

We've been coming to Zihuatanejo for 9 years and we've always stayed at the same place. This year we decided to try something new and found this wonderful new B&B!! The B&B is beautiful and clean, the rooms are large and airy, the view is spectacular (and different from any we've seen in Zihua), and the pool is clean and refreshing. The owners/staff are really what makes this place special though. They are very friendly and accommodating, have an extensive knowledge of the area and can make great food recommendations for any budget! DO NOT miss their happy hour - both drinks and snacks (homemade hummus and red pepper dip) are amazing!! We cannot wait to come back next year!

A Definate Return Stay!

  • 5 of 5

Casa Solana is a perfect location in Zihuatanejo for panoramas of the bay and the town while being in a restful, attentive environment. Every room is carefully appointed in soothing soft colors. The breakfasts are delicious and the staff very kind. The owners are there and available when needed. Wonderful for a family's special holiday together as much as a single person or a couple. No muss, no fuss....just a great time!

Very scenic and beautiful place to stay with a relaxed, comfortable feel

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed my visit! Spent some time in the infinity pool everyday and visited the nearby ocean beach of "Los Gatos". The site, itself, is very scenic and overlooks Zihuatanejo Bay. The rooms are clean, stylish, and most have private open air showers which was an unexpected bonus for me. This place is a good value.

Nestled between the Sierra Madre Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, Zihuatanejo is on a beautiful stretch of Mexican coastline called “La Costa Grande” — “The Great Coast” — The surrounding mountains and the gorgeous protected Zihuatanejo Bay foster a sense of idyllic seclusion as this picturesque fishing village welcomes tourists from all over the world.

As Zihuatanejo has grown, an interesting symbiosis between modern convenience and cultural traditions has emerged. We have grocery stores, coffee shops, fine gourmet dining and broadband internet access but we also still have a central open-air market, wandering roosters, door-to-door vendors of freshly baked goods and Sunday gatherings in the town square for “family night” events, political speeches, markets, street food and cultural performances.

luxury, culture, beaches, shopping, cuisine, recreational activities and more.

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo is the site of several major sporting events including a international competition-level triathlon, several global surfing competitions & exhibitions, golfing benefits and an annual sailfish tournament. We are also home to the Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival which brings together guitarists from all over the world the first week of March.

Solana overlooks Playa las Gatas, an idyllic stretch of soft sand that is accessed via a rocky path or by panga boats from the town pier. There are a handful of seafood restaurants that serve the freshest fish and other vibrant Mexican flavors. Grab a hammock and enjoy your escape… or wander into the beautiful clear water that leads out to a natural coral reef that has grown over time and is a perfect spot for leisurely snorkeling.

Heading towards town, you’ll encounter Playa la Ropa, a popular “swimmers’ beach” for both locals and tourists. Playa la Ropa is dotted with beachfront restaurants and hotels, all where you can grab a table and lounge chair for the day to sip drinks, eat snacks and enjoy the view. If you can pull yourself out of your lounge chair, you can also rent jet skis, take rides on the banana boat or go parasailing.

The Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area is serviced by an international airport (ZIH) that receives flights from the US, Canada and Mexico City daily. We are located just a 15-minute cab ride from the airport. The beach is a 5 minute drive or a 20 minute walk. Taxis are inexpensive and readily available 24 hours a day.
