The Waupaca Chain O' Lakes is a premier Wisconsin vacation spot, known for it's crystal clear connected spring-fed lakes and fun family atmosphere. Reese's Retreat, named 50 years ago when our parents bought the property, is located on Beasley lake, the last lake on the fun-loving, water-sport mecca of the lower chain, connecting via Beasley Creek to the peaceful nature sanctuary of the upper chain.
Sit on the wrap-around deck and watch the world go by. Enjoy fishing/swimming off the dock to our private swim raft not far offshore, or my favorite: float with a cool drink and catch up with those you love. No worries about the kids in kayaks or floats: Beasley is a safe, no-wake lake. The middle of our lake is a favorite for swimmers, as is the sandy shore at the end of adjoining long lake where all ages float, put chairs in the shallow water to talk, throw balls, play or just generally splash around. 2 kayaks, a stand-up paddleboard, a rowboat, floaties of every description and a canoe are included with the rental. A 12- person pontoon boat with built in upholstered seats or a ski boat can be delivered right to your dock for an extra charge by calling our builder and neighbor Thad Marcom (920-588-8990). Pack a cooler and tour the lakes, tie up at Clear Water Harbor for live music and eats, or park on a sandbar in style.
Our large lakeside yard is surrounded by beautiful plantings, which create a private space for your group to play volleyball, Frisbee, or have an after-dark campfire.
The main level's open floor plan allows the great room with it's wood burning fireplace to flow into the kitchen so no one is left out. A connected 3-season porch offers outdoor eating without hassle or mosquitoes. Lots of seating and a gas grill steps away on the deck make things easy. After dinner it's a short walk to Tom Thumb's mini-golf, then a s'more-making, story-telling session around the fire pit. Or you can choose to do nothing but sit on the deck, listen to the frogs and watch for shooting stars.
Our family purchased the property in the early 1960's, and replaced the original cottage with this large house in 2005 to accommodate our growing brood. We designed the walk-out level to be quite separate. It consists of a big screen entertainment center, huge leather couch with built-in recliners, 2 bedrooms which sleep 4, a bathroom, wet bar with fridge, and the laundry room. If your family is like ours, you have early birds, but you also have night-owls who like to watch movies, eat chips and make lots of noise into the night. No problem. This arrangement keeps everyone happy.
On rainy days, you can watch movies or play games in front of the fire, or explore the authentic late 1800's main street with shops, restaurants and even The Rosa, an old-time movie theater playing films suitable for all ages.
On sunny days, the Chief Waupaca stern wheeler or Lady of the Lakes motor yacht out of Clear Water Harbor Marina offer narrated cruises while beautiful scenery goes by. The hardy among you can take the famous crystal river trip from nearby Ding's Dock. Offering both tubing and canoe options, it can be rough-and-tumble, but great fun indeed! Or just stay close to home for a kayak trip to the upper chain or a swim off the dock.
Reese's Retreat has been part of our family for 50 years. We welcome you and your family to enjoy it as well.

About Sandra Congdon
The family has spread from coast to coast, although my sister Joanne and her family live in nearby Madison. Reese's Daughters, my sister, (Joanne Thornton) and I (Sandra Congdon) own Reese's Retreat. Here we are doing our favorite thing, right off the pier in front of the lake house. I cannot tell you how many years this has been going on:)
Sandra Congdon purchased this House in 2005
Why Sandra Congdon chose Dayton
When dropping us off for camp here on the Chain, my parents fell in love with the area. They purchased Reese's Retreat in 1964. Then it was a small, rustic cottage built in 1925 with the first owner's own hands. We've always dreamed of a log and glass lake home, and in 2005, our dream came true.

Great Vacation Rental
Superb home with dock on the chain of lakes. Great vacation rental.
Perfect Waupaca weekend
Reese's Retreat is exceptional! Extremely well equipped, perfectly located, and wonderfully furnished.
Fabulous Lake Vacation
We stayed at Reese's Retreat at the end of July-August 2017 and can not say enough about our trip. We had a large multi-family group ranging in ages from 7-83 and there was plenty of room and activities for all. Sandra and Chelsy were great to work with and the home was beautiful and well maintained. We loved the kayaks and outdoor space as well as the screened porch. Would highly recommend and hope to visit again! Thanks !
Thank-you, Joe, Cheryl and family We love hearing the joy in our guests' voices:)
Sandra and family.
The house was lovely and well equipped. The grounds were beautifully landscaped.
Our family had a fabulous time at Reese's Retreat . Our sons, wives, partners and grandchildren loved the home. The kitchen was large enough for all of the family to cook in and eat together. The outdoor space was perfect for toddlers to play on...nice and level by the lake. We've never been in this area so we just loved kayaking in the quiet bays and small lakes while also enjoying tubing and waterskiing on the larger lakes. My sons loved taking their boat to the bars and restaurants that are on the lake with boat-side service! My husband also enjoyed fishing even though they weren't biting the week we were there. We would definitely recommend this vacation home.
Beautiful house and view of the lake!
So spacious and every amenity you would ever need. We all feel so comfortable staying here. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Amazing weekend on the lake!
We were so impressed with this property! We had a group of 8 including 2 children. There was plenty of space for everyone to spread out and relax. The kids loved having the basement entertainment center to watch Netflix in the morning! We rented a pontoon through Becker and no one could get over how crystal clear and beautiful the water was! The kids also enjoyed fishing off the dock on the days we didn't have the boat. They only caught small blue gills, but they were entertained! The only drawback for us is that the water around the dock was rather mucky and weedy and the kids didn't want to jump in off the dock to swim. I suspect it gets better later on in the summer and this was partly due to the crazy amount of pollen blowing around this time of year, but the kids were a little disappointed. We had a fire the first night with wood provided by the rental. Just awesome! They have really thought of everything and we had no issues cooking multiple meals in the well stocked kitchen! This was definitely the best VRBO rental that we have stayed in and provided us with much needed family time after suffering the loss of my grandmother the weekend before. Thank you for offering such a wonderful retreat!
Kristina, we've always found that time together in a beautiful setting is just what our lake house does best. Glad your family experienced that as well.
As far as the soft, natural lake bottom, that's absolutely true, and why we use the pier-to-the-swim raft technique or, even better, hop on one of the crazy and numerous water toys.
Thanks for staying!
Lovely late 1800's main street, complete with Farmer's Market and movie theatre. Gift shops, restaurants, pizza places and even a pub.
