LTM Ranch has been lovingly maintained and improved through the years. The hacienda style stone and wood work create a comfortable, spacious, and beautiful home. This scenic home is situated in the rugged North Corazones region of Terlingua Ranch. Inside, you’ll enjoy all the comforts of a custom home. Outside, you’ll be surrounded by some of the best scenery and most diverse plant and wildlife that the Chihuahuan Desert has to offer. A high clearance vehicle is recommended to get to and from the LTM Ranch.

Rock House: The house reflects the starkness and surprising diversity of the landscapes, flora, and fauna of the region. A modern kitchen, comfortable beds, spacious living areas, large game room with a chess game and darts, full pressure well water, flushing toilets, grid electricity, satellite radio and NO TV are among the many features of this unique vacation home. There is wi-fi at LTM Ranch.

Picture Windows: Large picture windows and doors allow you to enjoy your time in the Big Bend from the comforts of home. A visiting German artist observed that 'the desert appears to come inside'. Birds and other wildlife, not to mention the scenic views, may be observed from the communal rooms. The game room has a hide-type window for watching birds visiting the patio feeder and water troughs.

Patios & Porches: Sitting outside couldn't be easier! Thanks to porches on the south and west, an east-facing courtyard, and overhanging roofs, there is always somewhere in the shade. These locations all have a view, and usually a cooling breeze. The natural sounds and silence of the desert can be appreciated in full.

Wildlife: A stock tank is maintained year-round for native wildlife. Located just a hundred feet from the house, it provides water for a wide range of desert wildlife. Guests are almost certain to see deer and javalina coming in to drink. Rarer visitors, such as badgers, bobcats, and coyotes are seen from time to time. Jack rabbits and other smaller animals are frequently seen. Our strict no hunting policy is enforced to protect the native wildlife.

Scenic Views: The hilltop location provides panoramic views into Big Bend National Park and beyond. Persimmon Gap, Rosillos Mountains, Sierra del Carmen, Grapevine Hills, Chisos Mountains, Christmas Mountains, Corazones Peaks, Jack Eden Mesa, Nine Point Mesa and Santiago Peak form the skyline.

Star-gazing: Stars are usually visible down to the horizon in all directions. Light pollution is virtually non-existent. The Big Bend region is well known for having the darkest skies in the continental US. LTM Ranch provides a near perfect setting for enjoying America’s most amazing celestial views. Step out at night and look up. That’s all it will take to fully understand how the “Milky Way” earned its name. Visitors from more “civilized” areas often mistake the shimmering path of the Milky Way for high clouds or mists glowing in the night sky.

Bird Watching: The spring migration is the busiest time for birding in the Bend. One year forty-five species were observed at LTM Ranch in a two-week period. Another year, twenty-nine species were recorded over two weeks during the fall migration. At all times, the stock tank ensures resident birds are never far away. Birds can also be encouraged onto the patio by filling the water troughs and bird feeder. Turkey vultures often visit several times a day. Watching them ride the thermals or approach and land when there's a strong wind is simply fascinating.

Sunsets: Starting around two hours before sunset, the changes in the light are often dramatic. Often a particular mountain range or other feature is illuminated as if in a spotlight for a few minutes then returns to relative darkness when the 'spotlight' shines elsewhere. If a few clouds are present, a kaleidoscope of colors occur as the sun sets. The owner refers to this daily spectacle as 'The Light Show'. It can last over four hours and is different from minute to minute and day to day.

Big Bend National Park and Black Gap Wildlife Management Area: The 'back' entrance to the national park is just a couple of miles away. From there it's fifteen miles to the paved road between Persimmon Gap and BBNP Headquarters. Black Gap WMA is a largely undiscovered gem of remote and rugged scenery, and the Hallie Stillwell Museum a one-of-a-kind look into the past.

Nearby Hikes: Having driven many miles to reach the ranch, guests can walk out to the desert from the doorstep. LTM Ranch provides boundless diversity without ever leaving the property. The house sits at over 3300 feet above sea level, so a stroll down the driveway to the gate and back (round trip 0.5 miles) is a good workout for those used to lower elevations. Ranch roads around the property create many options for scenic walks or drives. The Christmas Mountains hiking trail just is a short drive away. A hike or drive up the jeep trail to the top provides breathtaking views. Located on protected state land, hiking or vehicle access into the Christmas Mountains is available by signing in at the Terlingua Ranch Lodge. There are rarely more than a few hikers per day in this vast desert wilderness and only one vehicle at a time is allowed on the road to the top. Vehicle access requires a refundable deposit. Be sure to inquire about road conditions. It is generally drivable with a 2WD truck, but conditions vary wildly based on recent rains.

Terlingua Ranch Facilities: It is only 8 miles to ranch headquarters. The Bad Rabbit Cafe is typically open 6:30am to 9:00pm, 6:00pm on Sundays. The crystal clear swimming pool and showers provide a welcome oasis. A laundry room, high speed WiFi, gift shop, and airstrip are also available.

We don't own LTM Ranch, but we wish we did. Janet and I run Big Bend Vacation Rentals and manage several vacation rentals -all listed on VRBO. Janet takes care of all the reservations and customer inquiries. Daryl handles maintenance, websites, and facebook pages for all our properties. We both handle the cleaning and often have help from our sons, Josh and Zack. If someone drives up to the house while you are here, it will most likely be us. What makes this house unique

The large game room with various games, pool table, darts, and a stereo system is the social hub of the house. The large sun room has huge picture windows overlooking the southern patio and bird feeder. Birdwatchers will stay busy recording several species. The views are simply spectacular in all directions.

A interesting place to visit!

The property was nice, the last 300-400 yds getting there are rough, but beautiful once you top the hill. The house was very comfortable, clean and had everything needed. All the instructions were a great help, lots of information about area and the park. I spent a lot of my time there watching the birds as I do at home, saw a few new ones. A red racer was a visitor one morning on the front porch. Thanks for the memories,

Amazing views, total quite, great birding right on site

We loved every bit of this place. Yes, it was a drive to the park (though apparently everything is), and even somewhat of a drive to the main road, but the views and the stars and the birds and the ability to spread out and have peaceful surroundings made it all worth it.

This house is incredibly well-stocked, tons of maps to choose from, extra supplies (like back packs and jackets and flashlights), a full kitchen, plenty of towels and bath amenities. The wifi can be a bit spotty (though better in the kitchen than the living room, we figured out), but still serviceable (though you won't be streaming any movies, but who needs that with the stars and the wildlife).

We thought that a hand drawn map of the back road directions to the park and to the lodge would help. But that is minutia. My husband said it was one of the few places he would go back to.

After just a few days, it felt like home. Thanks for sharing this wonderful, magical place.

Great place

Very nice place. It is everything you said it was. Tough to get to but worth the effort. Just need to add 4 to6 inchs to the chain on the swing gate. It keeps pressure on the lock and the tumbler is hard to turn so we used a second person to lift up the swing rod while the other turned the tumbler on the lock. Well stocked house and very well organized. Bring a bag of wild bird seed and fill the water troughs, you will love the view!
