Beautiful views, comfortable cottage

  • 5 of 5

Deborah the property manager was great. She picked us up at the ferry dock and took us to pick up a jeep and groceries. The property was lovely with a great view. It had a well equipped kitchen and a large bathroom with washer and dryer upstairs, as well as a spacious master bedroom that opened directly to the veranda. Downstairs 2 BR's each had their own bathrooms. Nice trade wind breezes and ceiling fans kept it comfortable at night in late March. In the nearby town of Coral Bay we enjoyed dinner twice at the Aqua Point restaurant. The food was fresh and there was a lovely singer who sang classic pop tunes. Our favorite beach was Hansen Beach where we could snorkel and rent kayaks. Warning, the house is not air-conditioned so I would not recommend it for later than Mid- April , unless you don't mind warm, humid environments. If we had time, I would have like to explore Cruz Bay more with it's cute shops and restaurants - but we had to go home. Overall, we had a great time and would stay here again.

Incredible week in a beautiful spot

  • 5 of 5

We had an incredible stay at Coral Livin'. The house is as beautiful as it looks in the pictures. Living room and kitchen were bigger than they appear. Great to hang out on the deck every morning and later afternoon before and after daily excursions around St. John. Beautiful view of Coral Bay!! Ceiling fans and a breeze kept the house at a comfortable temperature throughout our week-long stay when we enjoyed temperatures on the island in the mid-80's every day. The house was equipped with a cooler, beach chairs and comfy beach towels to bring to the beaches. Road was a little bumpy, but so are all the roads in St. John. The house was clean and nicely decorated--Very comfortable and spacious for our family of four. Deborah was extremely helpful before we embarked on our visit and as we arrived to the island. She offered advice on rental cars, boat tours, beaches and trails to check out. She also offered to meet us at the ferry and take us to our rental car, grocery store and then show us around Coral Livin'. We would definitely rent this place again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great getaway in St. John. No need to look any further: you have found your ideal home away from home at Coral Livin'!!

Excellent Coral Bay Rental for our Family of Four!

  • 5 of 5

Still glowing from our wonderful 10-day adventure on St. John, enjoyed from our excellent home base at Coral Livin'! Deborah was a huge help to get us settled - meeting us at the ferry on Day 1, driving us to our rental jeep, then bringing us grocery shopping, before escorting us right to our front door in Coral Bay. She had great input on items we would need for our stay, as well as places to eat, shop & visit. This property had everything our family of four needed. First off, the views are incredible - the pictures don't do it justice - and can be enjoyed from the deck as well as from the first-floor living room/kitchen space & master bedroom. Plenty of picture windows and screen doors give you access to the view (and the wonderful deck), and also provide plenty of opportunities to catch the great cooling breezes blowing off of Coral Bay. The kitchen is really well equipped (even has a coffee grinder!) and is a really nice space for both preparing & enjoying meals - open, airy, with plenty of counter space and all the gear you need. Dishwasher was a great feature. The master bedroom was a very nice size, and has sliding doors out to the deck. The master bath has a washer/dryer, as well as a wonderful open tiled shower. Our two teenagers loved their rooms, on the ground level - each had their own private entrance, bath with outdoor shower, and even their own TV in each room! My oldest son's room even had a mini-fridge! Other nice features of this space were the beach chairs (6) & coolers (2) for our daily excursions. Also, there are board games, cards & books for evenings at home. The cleaners graciously leave previous renters' kitchen basics for incoming tenants to use - condiments, seasonings, some canned goods, coffee filters, and even leftover spirits for cocktails! We would definitely rent this property again, in a heartbeat. The only drawbacks are if you are uncomfortable with bouncy car rides, the access road up to Coral Livin' is a bit rough - but this is a pretty common on the island, especially at properties perched in such dramatic hillside locations! We were situated only a mile or two from the village of Coral Bay, and multiple shops & restaurants. (Try Aqua Bistro, Indigo, and Miss Lucy's!) Our favorite excursions were Little Lameshur beach (take the short hike to Yawzi Point from the beach to access incredible snorkeling!), Hansen Beach, and Waterlemon Cay. Maho Beach & Jumbie Beaches were great, too!

Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

What a perfect home base for our explorations of St. John. This lovely, airy home had everything we needed and more! Our party was 3 families (Mom & Dad, grown kids & spouses, and 6 mos old granddaughter.) We had the perfect living area to come together, and still lots of private space. We cooked every single meal in that gorgeous kitchen - even packed picnics to the beach. We really enjoyed grilling every night with such a lovely view. We LOVED being off the beaten path, away from the touristy areas; but still in such a luxurious home. We even got to watch our Clemson Tigers win the National Championship from Coral Livin! Deborah was great to work with and gave us some great tips. We loved this home and our trip to St. John!

Fantastic week at Coral Livin'!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and another couple had a wonderful week at this clean and well maintained property. The main living area is bright and airy. The kitchen has everything you will need. The furniture is clean and comfortable. Pictures are quite accurate. I know others have said the drive up to the house is bumpy and it is - but it is mild in comparison to many of the smaller roads/paths/driveways leading to other homes on the island. Really not bad and you would not need 4 wheel drive at all. The view is amazing and we enjoyed our mornings and evenings on the spacious deck. The house comes with good quality beach chairs and coolers for all your adventures. Deborah was wonderful to work with and was really accommodating in helping us with groceries and luggage on arrival. We had an excellent trip and hope to stay here again!

Nice House, clean, but very warm and NO air circulation

  • 2 of 5

We had been looking to purchase a home in St John and had targeted Coral Livin. We planned a visit to St John in August to get the feel of the island in the off season. We worked with Deborah and she was very prompt with everything. The house was very nice, with a great kitchen and an open concept. We knew going into our visit Coral Livin didn't have A/C, but the pictures showed large ceiling fans in every room. However, that was a bit deceiving, because the fans couldn't go any faster than 1 revolution per 2 seconds on any fan. Ok, not true, the fan in the main level bathroom went a bit faster and rendered the bathroom the place to be. After two warm nights at Coral Livin, I emailed Deborah and she had 2 box fans delivered the next day. That was great customer service.

The temperatures on St John is pretty consistent year round, but we found a warm, humid week, just after a Tropical Depression made an appearance. Coral Livin gets some good Trade Winds, but not enough to stay comfortable. Expect to be up early with the sun rise and the roosters. It's actually a good way to read the news and drink coffee on the porch!

Another note for for those staying at Coral Livin with kids; the two bedrooms on the ground floor are not connected to the main house or each other. You have to walk outside and down stairs to get to the rooms (and in our case the rain). Our girls (aged 17 & 12) stayed in the same room, because it was a little too far removed from Mom & Dad. It would be great for couples, but the kids didn't care for it.

The driveway to the house is bumpy, but manageable. I'd go back if the house had A/C in the bedrooms or fans that could adequately circulate the air. Deborah was awesome and very responsive and the house was very clean.

Owner's Response: Thanks Rick & Kristi for your feedback. I am sorry you felt the pictures of the ceiling fans were deceiving. But am glad you did contact me during your stay so I could at least, temporarily, alleviate the problem for you. The fans had worked fine before but more recently, we did find they were no longer working up to speed. However, that hadn't been a problem for guests this summer before you. I alerted the owner of the issue & she ordered new ceiling fans in late August that are due to be installed this month (Sept). I am certain this will solve the problem! Our summers are about 10 degrees warmer than our winters & can often be uncomfortable especially when the tradewinds are down. The winter almost always has good breezes due to the tradewinds. And just to clarify, the driveway is very short. I believe you were referring to the road up to the house called Mill Vista Rd. It alternates between paved & dirt & can be bumpy on the dirt parts. Luckily it's a short road! And unlike some roads on St John, it does not need 4 wheel drive! Again, I am sorry the fans did not work well for your stay. Once the new ones are installed I'm sure they will be working adequately. And thanks again for your valuable feedback now & when you were there. Sincerely, Deborah, Property Manager.
