The island consists of two parts---the Dutch side and the French side, identified by border markers but requiring no passport for passage. Conveniently located on the Dutch side near the French border within the pristine, affluent quarters consisting of the Dawn Beach/Oyster Bay area, Condo SeaStar 24 provides the safety and security guests seek while traveling to the islands with gated parking outside and private walkway access to Dawn Beach (no hikes, drives or streets to cross to get to the beach!). Electrical current is American, so there is no need to borrow an electrical-current converter for your personal electric shaver or hairsetting appliances.

The condo sleeps four with a king-sized plush Euro pillow-top bed in the master bedroom, an en suite full bath and a queen-sized sofa bed in the living area, with a half bath conveniently located right off the living area. Private, in-condo washer and dryer are provided for guest use. The exterior three-sided wrap-around gallery (balcony) has a teak bistro table, two chairs and a small gas-grill. The fully-equipped gourmet kitchen has everything you need for that perfect meal. The condo has central air (2014-installed Daiken SEER 24.5 high efficiency inverter system) to ensure your comfort in EVERY room.

English is the predominant language on the Dutch side, and many ex-pat Americans call St. Maarten home. Dutch Gilders (NAF) is as readily accepted as is American currency and exchange is readily translated at point-of-purchase at shops. restaurants and grocers.

Currency on the French side is predominantly Euros, but many shops accept American dollars at the same rate as Euros while others will facilitate a conversion and, sometimes an upcharge (depending upon market value).

There are many wonderful eateries on both the Dutch and French sides of the island that your hosts and other guests have enjoyed. Menu samples are arranged in a notebook reference guide located in the Condo or you can ask the concierges, Diane or Diana, for other recommendations. The universal favorites consistently remain #1-rated BIG FISH, right on site, Canoa Restaurant, Mr. Busby's on the beach or Mama's Pizza or Captain Oliver's is just a short scenic walk or drive over the border across the harbor. Experience the local island flavors at Fatboy Jimmy's BBQ (across from GEBE Electric in Philipsburg, right in the public parking lot), and other local fare including all-you-can-eat ribs at Mark's Place in Phillipsburg, or delightful breakfast fare at La Sucrere, or try the Taste Factory in Simpson Bay or at Sarafina's in Marigot (Mar-e-go) where merely viewing the extensive showcase of fare is certain to pack on the pounds. About Captain Jon and Louise

Capt. and Mrs. Jon hail from the New England States and have, for years, enjoyed travelling throughout the Caribbean and decided to make St. Maarten their second home. Delighted to share SeaStar #24 with their extended families, friends and their guests, they enjoy hearing about the varied adventures and special memories made by all during their stay.

Why Captain Jon and Louise chose St Maarten

After having been to all of the other islands, Capt. and Mrs. Jon were especially taken with the beauty of the island, the its friendly people, and the variety of beaches to choose from---37 of them! St. Maarten/St. Martin is home and favored vacation destination for many cultures! Avid boaters and snorkeling fans, the owners enjoy exploring the reef at Dawn Beach while their guests say that the water sports, zip-lining, horseback riding, hiking around the island, island hopping and shopping are among their favorite things to do when they are not just relaxing or frolicking in the surf at Dawn Beach or taking pictures there at sunrise. Rather than choose a more serene bayside setting on the island, Jon and Louise preferred and selected the open ocean windward beach setting where breezes are constant and the surf is refreshing, invigorating and ideal for swimming, floating around with a styrofoam noodle or jumping through the gently rolling waves. You can see the neighboring island of St. Barthelemy (St. Barts) in the distance from the beach---who could ask for a better place to take a vacation or spend a special holiday?

While there are a great many other lodging options to choose from on the island, Jon, who is a credentialed Maritime Captain having retired from corporate life as an accountant for a multi-national components manufacturer and Louise, who is an accomplished sales and marketing professional and an avid writer, enjoy the beachfront setting and amenities Dawn Beach provides while still having a short-drive access to tourist enticements, shopping, nightlife and the other island attractions.

Family and guests enjoy footstep access to the pool and beach versus steep-hill driving or major mountainside sweaty hikes in tropical weather encumbered with tote bags, towels and other beach implements to gain a days enjoyment in the crystal clear waters. All appliances and electrical outlets are U.S; no need to borrow a bulky current converter.

Wonderful Escape

A beautiful Condo so close to the beach and great restaurants. It was exactly what we had hoped for. Beautifully appointed and so comfortable. Big Fish is an amazing restaurant and only steps away.

The weather was wonderful and the water warm. We had a great time snorkeling on the reef right off the beach and two great days of scuba diving, one on the island, one on Saba. We loved eating breakfast on the small veranda, looking at the marina. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Thank you Jon and Louise.

Fabulous holiday!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect for our needs. The beach was spectacular here and it was located near where we needed to be. The accommodations could not have been more perfect. We were extremely comfortable and it was easy to cook for ourselves for part of the time. Everyone was incredibly nice and made us feel right at home. Capt John and Louise were very helpful even before we left for our holiday. We would definitely return and would recommend to all friends and fellow wanders.

Great vacation escape in July!

The weather and the people were both warm and friendly and the management staff on site at the beach was very professional. Dawn Beach was perfect--no seaweed--and the water was crystal clear and absolutely refreshing. The accommodations were just as pictured, and the bed was the stuff that dreams are made of! It was nice to just leave from our door and be on the beach in just a couple of minutes. The owners were right, there was no long sweaty walk or drive to find parking. The condo was conveniently located for dining at night and a great local convenience store for hot fresh croissants in the morning and everything from fine cigars, deli products and ice cream to soda and beer, etc. It was a nice touch to arrive at the condo after a taxi ride from the airport to discover the owners had the housekeeper put out a polished silver ice bucket and bottle of champagne for us! Wow! Talk about class!

We can't say enough about the cleanliness and security of the condo compared to other resort-style places we've stayed at over the years. Making reservations directly through the owners and their agent was a breeze and we look forward to our return trip next summer! Captain Jon and Louise thought of everything and made this our best vacation EVER!

Gracious hosts who go out of their way to create a memorable stay

Cap John and Louise are the perfect hosts and truly go out of their way to make sure your stay at their home is a memorable one. Fast, friendly and helpful guidance made the reservation process easy and their insights into attractions and restaurants while staying on St. Maarten were well-appreciated (and followed!)

This home served as a great place to return to at the end of activity-filled days. The location at Dawn Beach is awesome! You're steps from a beautiful beach, delicious restaurants and a convenient shop where you can buy most anything you might need if you choose to eat in- if you're an early riser don't miss their selection of fresh-baked breads and pastries for a yummy breakfast! The location is quiet, relaxing and with all of the amenities of being in a resort yet within a short drive of many of the island's attractions - we visited Grand Case, ferry to Pinel Islands, swimming in Orient Beach, shopping in Phillipsburg and a few drinks in Oyster Pond.

The home is meticulously maintained and upon arrival we were greeted by the cheerful management staff. They escorted us to a spotless condo and presented all the features within the unit. The host's attention to creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere did not go unnoticed. The gift of a welcome basket of snacks was a nice touch. As other reviewers have commented, the hosts have provided almost everything you will need - including beach chairs, umbrella (beaches charge $20 to rent these!!), large beach towels and coolers /ice packs. Prior guests have even left behind a variety of sun tan lotions which are available if you need to share.

Thank you Cap John and Louise for sharing your home and being part of a memorable birthday celebration! We would highly recommend your home and hospitality to anyone considering a trip to St. Maarten/St. Martin!!

Vacation Stay seastar #24

Great location. Apartment is top notch with all high end items within the unit. Sleeps 4 easily if not too fussy with 1.5 bathroom and a sofa bed. It was perfect for us. Will recommend this location. 2 issues, 1. The apartment had a strong smell of cigarettes. 2. Beach although less than a minute away was full of seedweed so we did not end up using it but other beaches are very close driving distance away.

Biggest plus for us was the cleaning service, the condo operators (N and D). Were very helpful, professional and friendly.

We were happy to make the exception for four to include your children and are pleased that you found our accommodations "perfect" for yourselves! Our guests report that the King-sized bed in the Master Bedroom with en suite bathroom plus the queen sofabed in the living area, with another half bath ideally suited to couples or couples with small children. Although the on-site property managers (N & D) and other staff could not detect the smoke odor you described, our housekeeper did refreshen the place for you and reported your complete satisfaction. We have thanked them for you! Although tidal and wind directional changes do rarely bring in some seaweed, it hasn't been a problem that most of our guests have found to be an issue. Our guests enjoy Dawn Beach year-round, especially snorkeling around the reef just off shore. With 36 other beaches to choose from, everyone seems to find their favorites and since St. Maarten/St. Martin is a relatively small island, each can be discovered and explored at whim! Beautiful quiet get away

Sea Star is 5-star! The beautiful condo is just steps from the beach. The condo was perfect-beautiful furnishings, spotlessly clean and luxurious. The condo had every thing you could possibly need-robes, coolers for the beach, every toiletry you could need, even suntan lotion. After a long flight, it was great to arrive to a friendly staff and a welcome basket with lots of goodies such as coffee, fruit and snacks. It is on the quiet side of the island and very relaxing. The location has every convenience-private quiet Dawn Beach, a convenient store, restaurants (Big Fish was great) and a marina where you can take a snorkeling trip at Captain Allans. Highly recommend Sea Star for a quiet relaxing vacation.

Bar service is available on many of the beaches. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available on most of the 37 beaches on the island for a daily-use fee. Your hosts provide a beach tote, two chairs, noodle floats and an SPF 70 umbrella plus a cooler and reusable ice packs for your use. (Dawn Beach provides beach chaises for guests of resort; umbrellas are extra.) Parking along the beaches is generally free, and some beaches offer limited, day-guest fee-based parking. Housekeeping services are INCLUDED in condo rental fee. There is NO additional fee for cleaning prior to your arrival or at the conclusion of your stay! If you wish, a rental car can be reserved for your use for pick up on the day of your arrival. Guests choosing this service are required to return the car to the rental agency the day of their departure. Ask the property manager or concierge Diane about specific requests when you confirm your condo reservations (deposit and licensing information required).
