About the property

Magnificent setting of mountains, river, bay and ocean.

You’ll be in the heart of Yachats known as “the gem of the Oregon coast”. Watch whales, harbor seals, eagles, and a myriad of shore birds from the front deck and living room. Wade the river at low tide to access a beautiful sandy beach (or take a short walk across the Yachats bridge). You'll be within minutes of restaurants (Heidi’s, Ona, Drift Inn, LunaSea), and the famous coffee shop The Green Salmon. A grocery store, shops, wine store, playground, and great pastry/lunch spot, Bread and Roses, are all within 1 to 2 blocks.

The ancient Native American 804 trail starts right outside your front door. Head west, wind around “The Point” to the north and continue past the Adobe for a 1.5 mile spectacular walk along the ocean and to a sandy beach that stretches another 5 miles to Waldport. Head east out your front door then south to end up on the Amanda trail, which will take you to the 800 foot high look out at Cape Perpetua and the trails beyond.

Up the Yachats River you’ll find “Oreo” cows, Roosevelt elk habitat, and a restored covered bridge. Hiking trails, biking trails and running trails abound throughout the Suislaw National Forest and Cape Perpetua Scenic Area, just south of Yachats.

The cabin has one bedroom with a queen sized bed. A double futon is in a separate back room (a total of 4 quests is allowed). Parking on site for one vehicle only. The cabin is equipped with WiFi, a full kitchen, and bath with shower. Come for a visit and cozy up in the cabin or head out to explore. Either way, you’ll want to come back for more.

About Mac Lewman

This cottage has been in our family since 1963. It was handed down to my brother, sister and me several years ago. I purchased their shares a few years ago. The deck was rebuilt and a wind screen added. We added a bunk room to the back of the cabin about 40 years ago. My parents loved Yachats. This cabin is one of 5 that were originally all one property. When the original motel was made into separate units, we all came over to help my parents chose which cabin to by. We chose this one because the price was something like $4,350.00. In 2006 before the economic collapse this little unit was bank appraised at $500,000. Recently I replaced the flooring thoughout the cottage with douglas fir and raised the ceiling in the living room. The cabin was then fully repainted. The 7 & the i are just letters that were easy to mask and paint one morning. The dot on the "i" was made by holding the tape role up and painting inside the circle. It's not something mystical or meaningful to me. I just wanted to add something fun to the black and white room

Mac Lewman purchased this cottage in 1963

Why Mac Lewman chose Central Coast

This is a unique property with mountain, river, bay and ocean views. Nestled in the heart of Yachats, a little town chosen as one of the top 10 places to live and to visit in the US.

What makes this cottage unique

A retired realtor and I were having a glass of wine on the deck some time ago. He said, "Mac, this is a million dollar deck". Another glass of wine and he said "I take that back. This is a billion dollar deck". He's is also great local photographer and he commented when leaving, "I could have taken 200 great pictures while just sitting here with you ". Come and visit and you'll see why!

Great place for two

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Mac's wonderful house on the bay. We could walk to all the local eating and drinking establishments, the grocery store and shops. The house kitchen comes fully furnished and even includes some basics like rice, olive oil etc. It's perfect location, and seamless rental makes this our favorite vacation venue. Thank's Mac for another wonderful stay!

Perfect location!

This cozy little cottage is in a perfect spot! You can walk to the beach, the cliffs and a handful of nice cafes and restaurants. Or you can just sit on the deck and watch the waves.

Great Little House on Alsea Bay

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable, quiet place, so close to everything. Loved walking to Yachats State Park, about 2 blocks. Much further to get across the bridge and over to Alsea Bay, unless you want to get your feet wet in the river, and I'm not sure how deep it is. Friendly neighbors (locals). It was one of them who told me how to get to the bay. Walked the 804 Trail from the house to the sandy beach heading to Waldport, love that trail! Then crossed highway 101 at the Fireside & Overleaf and did the Ya'Xaik Trail through rain forest and the Botanic Preserve, so different from the ocean trails, and very lovely, be sure and do that one. Does involve climbing hillsides, though - need sturdy legs. Very clean, tidy place, good kitchen supplies, 2 coffee makers, 12 and 4-cup; was glad to see the small one, as that was all I needed for just myself. Everything worked wonderfully, with one exception - the large living room blind cannot be raised all the way, it is just too heavy to be pulled up, I know, as it came out of its top brackets and crashed to the bench. I got it put back, and settled for looking through the open slats for the rest of my stay. Kind of a shame, as the ad photos show all the blinds up for a clear view of the bay. However, if that was the worst thing, it's very minor compared to all the wonderful aspects of this rental. After all, one can sit out on the front deck and see all the view; fantastic with your morning coffee. I left a note on the blind cord warning not to use, and a note to Mac about what happened. The coffee table was just right for doing the 300-piece jigsaw puzzle, good size for a 4 day visit. That was fun. The back door is handy for accessing the market and shops. The journal for "Thoughts" was great, read others impressions, and then leave your own. If it still a rental next year, being as it is for sale, I want to bring my husband back, so he can enjoy it also!

Charming Cottage in Yachats

  • 4 of 5

This property was comfortable for 2 adults, futon in back bedroom. Nice shower, complete kitchen. Felt like someone's home. Loved the fir floors and walls and trim. Plenty of games to play and good TV. View of bay, sunny deck. Accepts pets. Right in the middle of town, just steps away from the surf and wonderful restaurants. I would stay there again.

cozy cottage by the sea

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I truly loved our stay here! The space was clean, well maintained and inviting. My favorite things included sitting at the little table watching the ocean through the large picture windows and sitting on the front porch. This was also a perfect "home base" for hiking around Cape Perpetua, Seal Rock and exploring the nearby beaches. Just a few steps from the front porch we saw seals in the little bay and numerous whale spouts.

I would absolutely stay here again!

Great property in the most beautiful setting across from the bay. The house is clean, tiny and minimalist with a selection of books to read, wi-fi and cable for when the weather's bad. The front deck seems protected from the wind somewhat. Walking to anywhere in town is so convenient and restaurants are good and easily accessible. We loved it!
