Located on Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula near Calumet, This smoke-free home/cottage is only 400 feet from the mouth of the Tobacco River and located on 230' of Lake Superior lakeshore. Approximately 15 miles from Lake Linden and Calumet. Nearest village is Gay. The views, breezes and waves are simply fantastic.

Home is located on the Gay/Lac LaBelle Road with easy access year round (available for rent all seasons). Peak periods are Memorial Day to Labor Day, and early-September to mid-October and Christmas to early March (snowmobile season).

This property has a spectacular view of the Lake from all the main living areas and bedrooms. The multi-level deck allows you to enjoy the summer breezes or the fall colors with family and friends.

Lower level features a heated garage great for storing the snowmobiles during the snowy winter nights. Also on the lower level is the laundry area, and one bedroom containing a double lower and single upper bunk bed (sleeps three). The other bunk sleeps two.

Upper level features beautiful red maple and cherry hardwood vaulted ceiling and open design from kitchen, dining and living room for great views of the lake and easy conversation. Master bedroom features a queen bed and 180 degree view of the lake. Bathroom is a full bath including bathtub and shower. DISH Network TV is included.

Exterior of property has children’s play set and open yard down to the Lake edge. Property is slightly elevated from the lake enhancing the lake view, but requires a few steps down to the Lake.

The Tobacco River (about 400 feet away) is known as one of the best trout streams in the Keweenaw. Old restored pier 500 feet the other way brings back memories of old copper mining days gone by.

Amazing location!

House driveway was freshly plowed and ready to drive in. Amazing location on Lake Superior and a few of us actually made it out on the lake to take a dip (FEB 16th)... House was cleaned and had everything we needed for our stay. Sauna was a great addition to the lower level and was used daily! 10/10 would come back next year and recommend to friends.

Perfect base for outdoor activities and a weekend getaway

Located on the water with beautiful views of Lake Superior. Very well stocked full of cooking supplies, sheets/towels, cleaning supplies, board games and books. Close enough to Mt Bohemia to hit the slopes at the open each day, but quiet enough to relax and enjoy the amazing sauna in the evening. We enjoyed our stay and stayed warm in subzero temperatures and snow flurries, have already discussed coming back up in a few months and enjoying it in the summer. Owner was very responsive and helpful with all of his answers and instructions.

More than expected

Great place to stay for snowmobiling it is right on the trail, very clean with everything you might need pots pans blender hand mixer microwave ext. There is a charcoal grill on the deck as well as the garage. Fuel is less then a mile away on the trail. We highly recommend this great property.

Our party of two couples enjoyed the location of this home on Lake Superior. It was a great base for our stay, and we loved the views. The kitchen was well-supplied, and dining on the deck with a home-cooked meal and the view of the lake in the sunshine was marvelous. The home was comfortable and had most everything we needed.

We were disappointed, however, in numerous things. For instance, the living and dining room furniture looks lovely in photos, but has been treated harshly. (A footstool was taped, the dining table's surface is in bad condition, and a dining chair was wobbly.) The downstairs bedroom's roll-up window shade had a hole repaired with scotch tape, and would not roll up the next day, so we could not enjoy the lake view.

The downstairs bathroom was the biggest disappointment. Located out in the garage, one is required to go down three stairs from the house into the garage, walk 10 steps, then up three stairs into the bathroom. It is not finished, but only roughed-in, with studs showing or covered with shower curtain-type material; the mirror is placed too high to use, there are no shelves for toiletries, and the window with unfinished window sill is covered by a wall hanging smaller than the window, so no privacy. The sauna, of course, is absolutely gorgeous, but we did not use that.

We all had difficulty with the burners on the stove not working properly. Some dishes were cracked and chipped, a knife was broken, and the plastic ice trays were not refilled, but were mostly empty and broken. There is an ice maker but it was not hooked up, so we made do with the broken ice trays. It would have been nice to have a bag of ice supplied. A drawer in the kitchen is so loose that when you open it, it almost falls out onto your foot, which happened to each of us. This drawer issue has been mentioned in past reviews, but obviously not addressed. The telescope in the photo seems much larger than the actual one in the home. The fire pit was left full of trash and beer cans and bottles, so I had to clean it in order to use it.

Other than these problems and misrepresentations, which are not small, in our estimation, we did enjoy the view and the amenities that were provided, and we had a good time. I would not recommend the home to a friend, unless these problems are dealt with or disclosed. It was not as nice as I had been led to believe.

Owner's Response: Hello, Ron and Mary. We are very sorry to hear your stay was less than perfect. We try to put many photos so there are no surprises. Seeing your feedback makes us realize we need to make sure all photos are current. We have some original photos from a few years ago and will update. As for the kitchen range had we known of the problem during your stay we would have gotten someone right over. We have since had a service man look at it and he replaced one igniter and cleaned two others and all is working great again with the range/oven (10/20/16). And, based on your feedback we have edited the listing to be more clear that the second shower/toilet/bathroom is part of the sauna. We haven't had the cleaners take time to go down by the lake edge to check on garbage that may be left in the firepit. I apologize that was missed by us. Again, we are very sorry to hear your stay was less than perfect and that we didn't get a chance to correct some of the issues while you were still there.

1. Check-in time is after 3:00 p.m. EST and Check-out time is 10:00 a.m. EST
2. This is a NON-SMOKING unit.
3. Pets are NOT permitted.
4. Damage/Reservation Deposit: A damage/reservation deposit of $200 is required. This must be received within 7 days of booking reservation. The deposit automatically converts to a security/damage deposit upon arrival. The deposit is NOT applied towards rent; however it is fully refundable within 14 days of departure, provided the following provisions are met.
a. No damage is done to the log home, property, or it’s contents, beyond normal wear and tear.
b. All debris, rubbish and discards are placed in the garbage can or garbage bags.
c. All soiled dishes are cleaned and put away (clean dishes in the dishwasher is o.k.)
d. Fridge and Range/Oven are cleaned if used.
e. The door is locked and key is left on the kitchen table.
f. No linens or towels are lost or damaged.
g. No early check-in or late check-out (without permission).
5. Payment: Payment is required 30 days prior to rental.
6. Cancellations made 60 days prior to rental receive full $200 deposit refund.
7. Cancellations made less than 60 days prior to rental receive no deposit back.
8. Cancellations made less than 30 days prior to arrival forfeit the total rental amount received in addition to the deposit.
9. Exceptions will be made if we are able to rent the home for the same time period you booked. If this occurs then we will refund entire deposit and any prepaid rental received.
10. Maximum Occupancy—The maximum number of overnight guests is limited to 12 persons.
11. This property requires a minimum 3 night stay. Certain seasons, we may restrict rentals to full-week rentals only.
12. No daily maid service. The home is set-up with clean towels and linens before you arrive. Should you need any special assistance during your stay, call 612-723-2398

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
