About ruth charny

I am a film producer with 5 grandchildren for whom I built this house. I am anticipating being in London & Paris for work all of next year and therefore decided to put the house up for rent. Ideally, I would prefer a year-long renter or a month-long renter.

ruth charny purchased this house in 2004

Why ruth charny chose Cornwall

It was a difficult decision to put my house and our things on the rental market, but I'd rather have it used and there's very little that's breakable.

What makes this house unique

this is a very special house in that I built for my 5 grandchildren or rather when I was anticipating grandchildren. It has been enjoyed by all them as they can play, swim, hike, ski, garden, play organized sports, barbecue, roast s'mores around a campfire, sleep under the stars, and roughhouse with the DOG who is far enough from the road to never be on leash and protects the many flowers and vegetables from deer. Our neighbor on route 7 (although our driveway is 1/4 mile long and far from the road) is the Housatonic Valley, which protects the region Association which protects

Great house and location.

  • 5 of 5

This house has a great layout and was perfect for our family (2 adults and 2 kids), plus had a bit of extra space for the occasional guest. It is perfectly set up for small children and the open living/dining/kitchen area is great. The location next to Mohawk Mountain was great for skiing, but it would be equally great in the summer, given the proximity to Kent and the surrounding area with lots of great hiking options.

Beautiful, modern and secluded

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I spent a great -- if too short! -- weekend at Ruth's place. We spoke over the phone and she was was very friendly, reasonable, and easy to deal with. The place itself was beautiful and just like the pictures. It's perched on a hill above the river at the end of a long drive way off the road. There was plenty of wood for the floating fireplace (and fire pit outside), and the kitchen was very well equipped. We look forward to going back.

My overall experience was great. The house was very clean. I loved the modern look it had. The beds were very comfortable and had sheets provided. There are many family activities to do there, for example you could play board games and puzzels, watch movies with the projector ect. My family and I had a very wonderful time.

The owner, Ruth, is a very nice lady. She made sure that we had everything that we needed. She informed us about all the activities that were near. She also made sure if we were okay on a daily basis. I will definitely be goimg back.

Disgruntled Renter The house is nice the pool is much smaller than picture

  • 2 of 5

The house was not ready when we arrived and we arrived later than scheduled. The fridge was full of last tenants food. the owner was adding chlorine to pool which was listed as salt water pool She proceeded to tell me new bed was arriving in next day or so the landscapers would be arriving next day to mow the lawn and pool people were coming the day after that This owner clearly does not understand her role as a host she proceeded to text me each day about the UPS arriving with new mattress could I tip ups man etc Beds are futons which are uncomfortable. We left a day early. And owner agreed to refund 1/2 day which 3 weeks later after much communication has not arrived The owner does not stand by anything she says .so I would not recommend this property. The owner is also very rude and she slipped in her list of the 15 house rules the day before we arrived. Beware she wants you to wash duvet covers and take garbage to the dump This is clearly the worst rental experience I have ever had and I have rented a lot of properties thru the years We were treated like caretakers not paying guests!

Owner's Response: this was posted anonymously which is telling. the renter was very agitated when she arrived and had been badgering me for days before her arrival to refund her for the last day of her rental period. She had a very large and hairy dog. I allow dogs in my pool, but asked her politely to please try and keep his swimming to a minimum as I was worried understandably about the filter system. She proceeded to order her dog into the pool while I was standing there and then was verbally abusive.. When she and her party left, I found large globs of the dog's black hair floating in my pool and clogging the basket to the filter system. Below is a definition of a saline pool: "The traditional way to add chlorine to a pool is to dissolve a tablet or pour liquid chlorine into the water. Saltwater chlorinating systems use electrolysis to release chlorine gas from the salt in the water."

Charming, cozy and soooo relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

This home was everything we dreamed of for a quick getaway from NYC for New Years Eve - it is charming, peaceful, and a perfect space for unwinding in nature, cooking good food (the kitchen is amazing) and relaxing by the fireplace/pit while listening to the river. We were a big group (three couples and a few small children) but the space is so well laid out that we never felt crowded. The house was clean, well-organized and very welcoming for the littles ones (with books toys and a projector for movie night in the playroom that allowed the parents to have real conversation while cooking together and gathering around the majestic dinner table). From the start, the owner was extremely attentive and kind, always available to us and quickly accommodating any request or resolving any issue. I saw a past review mentioning the beds - we all slept great on them and did not find them uncomfortable. The only complaint is that our trip was too quick - we're already looking forward to going back with more time to explore the parks, antique shops and hikes that surround the property. Highly recommend!
