The farm I MORI GELSI is located in the green heart of Umbria, less than a mile from Torgiano, a village inserted in the association “I BORGHI PIU’ BELLI D’ITALIA.

Framed by the rolling hills of vineyards and a characteristic, enchanting Umbrian landscape. The view from the house is on the vineyards of Fattoria Spinola and in the distance of Perugia and Torgiano.

Despite the silence and peace that will reign, is well connected to the main road (SP401) and then you can easily get to the places of interest and historical artists: Assisi, Perugia, Deruta, Todi, Gubbio, Montefalco, Bevagna ...

I MORI GELSI consists of a main house dated 1900 and lovingly restored, and its annex, which once housed the tractor shed, chicken coop and pigsty, refitted as a delightful detached house.

The main house was divided into two spacious and comfortable apartments 140sqm each, ideal for families or friends.

It 'set in a large private garden with swimming pool, fruit trees available to the customer, flowering plants.

Each apartment has its own private outdoor space consisting of a large pergola, lighted and furnished with a beautiful hand painted Deruta table and chairs. Guests also can enjoy a barbecue privately.

The area insists in a Wildlife Hunting forbidden Company: in fact very often our guests can encounter colorful pheasants and fast hares that roam freely and undisturbed.

An organic garden is free at guests disposal during their stay, as are free organic eggs from the farm.

Tourists will find a great welcome basket upon arrival with all the fixings for breakfast and two bottles of fine wine DOP and IGP Fattoria Spinola as a gift.

About Fiorbellina Maria Spinola

Born in Rome where I lived for 30 years, I decided to leave my job in the City (I worked in a Company that organized the SBK World Championship and many other Motor races), to run the family Estate and to start the activity of Agriturismo.

I left the City to live in Umbria, where I discovered an amazing and wonderful Region and a different, healthtier quality of life.

Fiorbellina Maria Spinola purchased this apartment in 1995

Why Fiorbellina Maria Spinola chose Perugia

Fattoria Spinola was a convent of nuns in the late thirteenth century.

In fact, there is still a private consecrated chapel with frescoes dating back approximately at the beginning of the fourteenth century.

Unfortunately, these frescoes are very damaged, either because they have been discovered by Antonio Spinola (my grandfather) only in the early '900 - at that time this room was used for storage of farm and it was painted white - and because during the 1997 earthquake many pieces of fresco were detached from the ceiling.

We do not have the possibility to restore it because it is quite expensive.

During the post-earthquake restoration, we discovered that the facade of the chapel had been hidden by plaster. In fact, the part of the building next to the Chapel was added at a later time (1600).We decided to leave out the plaster original brick facade with the frame of the original roof (lowest building constructed later).

Around 1700 the Fattoria Spinola became the country house of the noble family Goga (now extinct). You can still see the emblem on the altar of the Chapel and stone at the entrance to my house.

In 1818, the last Cardinal Spinola family (SPINOLA, Hugh Peter * 1791-1858) was sent to Perugia by Pope and bought about 3,000 acres of homes, land, villas. He was the uncle of my grandfather, that's why his death left him and his brothers all his possessions. My grandfather happened to the Fattoria Spinola with 70 acres of land.

What makes this apartment unique

Good location for sightseeing

  • 3 of 5

The holiday apartment was in a lovely location with easy access to Perugia, Assisi and Spoleto. The owner was very generous and allowed unlimited access to her vegetable garden for fresh vegetables and fruit. However, be warned, the property is not air conditioned as indicated in the advert. The air conditioning was just 3 floor standing fans and we sweltered for the first week of the holiday due to the temperatures soring in the high 30's. In addition you are unable to put two electrical items on at any one time for example, the dishwasher on at the same time as the kettle or toaster etc, otherwise the electricity goes off and the owner needs to come and switch it back on. This is very frustrating and stressful and happened during our stay, despite all our best efforts! The nearest bar is a 15-20 minute walk away with friendly owners. Restaurant Siro is a fantastic restaurant 25 minutes walk away and we ate there on two occasions. The owner recommended a very good pizzeria called Number One which was approximately 10 minutes away in a car. The pizza's are excellent and very cheap. Overall we enjoyed our stay in this beautiful part of the world.

Owner's Response: Dear Louise, thank you very much for your review. I was very happy to host you! You were a very nice and comprehensive guests! I am so sorry for air conditioning: since 1995 we did not need it and it is strange that it is mentioned in the advertisement. I am going to control and eventually erase this mistake, however it has been an awfully hot and sticky summer, not at all usual for this area of Italy! The Italian Company for electricity is very expensive but the power given to use few and if you suppose to use more than 1 appliace (kettle is 2000Watt!)..the light goes away, as explained on your arrival day. This is frustrating for us too in our home! You can imagine if we had air conditioning too! To get air conditioning for 140sqmt home we will need a lot of power and the costs I should let the guests pay extra would be about 120€/week... But as I told you, this was a strange, tropical NOT Umbrian year! - hope the last! If during the next spring will understand that the summer will be hot, I'll arrange for air conditioning. I'm sure that even if this will result in higher spending my guests will be happier. Fortunately we came back from 29 August at the right temperature! I hope that you were happy and see you again one day in Torgiano! Thanks again! All my best wishes Fiorbellina & the Farm!
