A large 5 bedroom home in the perfect location for wine tasting
Make your visit to wine country a memorable one with a stay at the Historic Dayton Wine House. You’ll feel the grandness of this house with the 11 foot ceilings, oversized rooms with period details and plenty of character, updated heating, cooling and appliances, and over 3400 finished square feet, comfortably sleeping 10 people in 5 bedrooms with 2 full bathrooms. A bottle of wine and tasting room coupons await for you to start the fun right away.
The kitchen is fully equipped for preparing a gourmet meal, with room for several chefs to cook at once. The 10 foot farmhouse table is a great gathering place in the large dining room and comfortably seats 12 people. There is a propane Weber grill to cook out and Adirondack chairs for a picnic in the yard.
Treat yourself for a great night’s sleep with comfortable beds, pillows, and white linens, and take a relaxing soak in the clawfoot tub.
After a day of exploring and wine tasting, settle in to watch a movie from our library on the theater sized 135” HD TV with Paradigm speakers, or relax in one of the leather club chairs in the adjacent living room and play music through the bluetooth speakers.
Oregon is a world-class wine destination and recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of the first planting of its pinot noir grapes. The house is perfectly positioned in the middle of the Willamette Valley for easy access to taste at one of its 400+ wineries in any direction from the house. Multi-million dollar tasting rooms with jaw-dropping views are only minutes away. We are glad to share our favorite wineries or help with suggestions for your trip, and we provide winery maps to all of our guests.
For dining, walk a few blocks to The Joel Palmer house, one of the best fine dining restaurants in the Willamette Valley whose menu centers around mushrooms and truffles the owners forage. Or for an upscale tavern vibe, walk across the square to The Barlow Room, a great place to eat and drink from the same owners. For your breakfast, just walk across the street to The Blockhouse Cafe in an immaculately restored 1886 church.
For your sweet fix, Archie’s Ice Cream Shop is always busy and frequently has vintage cars on display. Seufert winery and tasting room is also located near the main town square.
Many more restaurants are less than 10 minutes' drive from the house in McMinnville, Newberg and Dundee. Favorites include Red Hills Market, Nick’s Italian Cafe, Dundee Bistro, Storr’s BBQ, Thistle Restaurant and Bar, The Painted Lady, and The Blue Goat.
The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum and water-park is a not to miss museum only a few miles from the house, also home to the Spruce Goose airplane and an IMAX theater. Portland and the Oregon coast are both only about an hour away.

About Kathryn and Greg Sobotka
Greg and Kathryn are long time residents of Portland. Greg, originally from Oxford, Mississippi, graduated from University of Mississippi and is a realtor with Think Real Estate. Kathryn is from Cleveland, Ohio, graduated from Northwest University and is Senior Event Coordinator Vibrant Table Catering & Events. Because of our mutual love of the Willamette Valley and their passion for Oregon pinot noir, we purchased The Historic Dayton Wine House in 2014 to have a second home in the area we love. We have been coming to Oregon wine country for years and still get excited each time we go, discovering a new winery or exploring backroads to find a new favorite restaurant. When not in wine country we love to travel and enjoy all things outdoors.

Why Kathryn and Greg Sobotka chose Dayton
We feel incredibly fortunate to be the owners and caretakers of this beautiful historic property. The grand 5 bedroom home, built in 1885, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a beautiful example of Victorian style architecture. Known as the “Gabriel-Will house” on the historic register, this is a prominent house in Dayton overlooking the town square on a large 1/2 acre lot. We plan on keeping the home in our family forever and are so excited to be able to share it with our guests. Perfect in size for large groups or with a smaller group, each couple can have their own floor.
What makes this House unique
Dayton is like stepping back in time, and vacationing here feels a world away from the big city. Dayton residents take great pride in their town and hold special events throughout the year that are fun to participate in. The summer concerts in the park on Friday nights are our favorite. Come experience what both we and our previous guests have loved about vacationing at the Historic Dayton Wine House.

Exactly what we were looking for
We were looking for a large place for a graduation weekend celebration and believe this was just the right spot. Easy access to George Fox University and proximate to a great restaurant for catering a big meal. Lots of room with a great kitchen for big meals, yet cozy as well. If we had more kids going to GFU, we would be back every year!
Cozy and Clean!
We had an amazing stay in Dayton! The house was perfectly as described and the checking in and out was painless. Greg and Kathryn were available for any potential issues (which there were none) and gave timely responses. The beds in this place are like clouds and the overall atmosphere was very comfortable. The house is beautifully decorated and we loved admiring the eclectic wallpaper and old floors. We had a great stay and would 100% rent again!
Thanks so much for your review, Karen--we would love to have you back anytime!
Such a beautiful home filled with everything you need
The hosts were welcoming and the cozy furniture and amazing beds and bed linens were a dream.

Your home is immaculate and PERFECT for our group to enjoy time together and still have room to spread out. From booking to check out, you were easy to communicate with and flexible with our requests- we could not have asked for a better experience! We will cherish these memories for the rest of our lives and we are so thankful to have stayed in historic Dayton. We look forward to booking again soon!
Fantastic Get Away!
We enjoyed every minute we spent at the Dayton Wine House! It was welcoming from the moment we walked in! The extra touches, bottle of wine, etc. were appreciated. The beds were so comfortable. The bathrooms and the amenities were amazing . Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash not always found in VRBO homes but enjoyed by all. Very comfortable home to relax and enjoy long time friends. It's located close to McMinnville and splendid wine tasting! Thank you for a great three days! We will return and have already recommended this fabulous home to friends!
