Dayton House Rental Photos and Description

A large 5 bedroom home in the perfect location for wine tasting

Make your visit to wine country a memorable one with a stay at the Historic Dayton Wine House. You’ll feel the grandness of this house right when you first step inside and see the 11 foot ceilings, large oversized rooms with period details and character rarely seen anymore. With updated heating, cooling and appliances, the large house has over 3400 finished square feet, comfortably sleeping 10 people in 5 bedrooms with 2 full bathrooms. A bottle of wine and tasting room coupons await for you to start the fun right away.

The kitchen is fully equipped for preparing a gourmet meal, with room for several chefs to cook at once. The 10 foot farmhouse table is a great gathering place in the large dining room and comfortably seats 12 people. There is a propane Weber grill to cook out and Adirondack chairs for a picnic in the yard.

Treat yourself for a great night’s sleep with comfortable beds, pillows, and white linens, and take a relaxing soak in the clawfoot tub.

After a day of exploring and wine tasting, come back and settle in to watch a movie from our library on the theater sized 135” HD TV with Paradigm speakers, or relax in one of the leather club chairs in the adjacent living room and play music through the bluetooth speakers.

Oregon is a world-class wine destination and recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of the first planting of its pinot noir grapes. The house is perfectly positioned in the middle of the Willamette Valley for easy access to go wine tasting at one of its 400+ wineries in any direction from the house. Multi-million dollar tasting rooms with jaw-dropping views are only minutes away. We are glad to share our favorite wineries or help with suggestions for your trip, and we provide winery maps to all of our guests.

You can walk a few blocks to The Joel Palmer house, one of the best fine dining restaurants in the Willamette Valley. Their menu centers around mushrooms and truffles that they forage themselves. Or for an upscale tavern vibe, walk across the square to The Barlow Room, a great place to eat and drink also owned by the owners of the Joel Palmer house. For your morning breakfast, you only have to walk across the street to The Blockhouse Cafe in an immaculately restored 1886 church. This restaurant has a beautifully lit exterior which you can see from our house. For your sweet fix, Archie’s Ice Cream Shop is always busy and frequently has vintage cars on display. Seufert winery and tasting room is also located near the main town square.

Outside of Dayton within a 10 minute drive from the house are many restaurants in McMinnville, Newberg and Dundee. Some of our favorites include Red Hills Market, Nick’s Italian Cafe, Dundee Bistro, Storr’s BBQ, Thistle Restaurant and Bar, The Painted Lady, Babica Hen, The Blue Goat and Ruddick/Wood.

The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum and water-park is a not to miss museum only a few miles from the house, which is home the Spruce Goose airplane and an IMAX theater. Portland and the Oregon coast are both only about an hour away.

About Kathryn and Greg Sobotka

Greg and Kathryn are long time residents of Portland. Greg, originally from Oxford, Mississippi, graduated from University of Mississippi and is a realtor with Think Real Estate. Kathryn is from Cleveland, Ohio, graduated from Northwest University and is Senior Event Coordinator Vibrant Table Catering & Events.

Because of our mutual love of the Willamette Valley and their passion for Oregon pinot noir, we purchased The Historic Dayton Wine House in 2014 to have a second home in the area we love. We have been coming to Oregon wine country for years and still get excited each time we go, discovering a new winery or exploring backroads to find a new favorite restaurant. When not in wine country we love to travel and enjoy all things outdoors.

Why Kathryn and Greg Sobotka chose Willamette Valley

We feel incredibly fortunate to be the owners and caretakers of this beautiful historic property. The grand 5 bedroom home, built in 1885, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a beautiful example of Victorian style architecture. Known as the “Gabriel-Will house” on the historic register, this is a prominent house in Dayton overlooking the town square on a large 1/2 acre lot.

We plan on keeping the home in our family forever and are so excited to be able to share it with our guests. Perfect in size for large groups or with a smaller group, each couple can have their own floor.

What makes this house unique

Dayton is like stepping back in time, and vacationing here feels a world away from the big city. Dayton residents take great pride in their town and hold special events throughout the year that are fun to participate in. The summer concerts in the park on Friday nights are our favorite.

Come experience what both we and our previous guests have loved about vacationing at the Historic Dayton Wine House.

Excellent wine country stay!

  • 5 of 5

This is an amazing house for a wine country visit. Located in tiny Dayton, it is centrally located to all of the Willamette Valley AVAs but located "off-the-beaten-path" in a very charming little town with several good restaurants within walking distance. The house is very spacious and was very comfortable for 6 of us. The beds are very comfortable, the kitchen very well equipped, and everything was very clean. The owners are very helpful and responded immediately to our questions. We have rented apartments/houses all over the world -- this was one of the best. We hope to return soon and will highly recommend the house to our friends.

Perfect home for a girls getaway!

  • 5 of 5

With 5 women we needed space and comfort. We found that and more when we stayed at this tremendous house. A bottle of wine was waiting as a welcome and we found much more than just the easentials in the kitchen and bathrooms. From making meals, to drinking by the fire and watching movies we were fully realized all this house had to offer. Great decor and perfect bedding, too!

I recommend this home completely!!

Good for wine tasting and so much more!!

  • 5 of 5

This is one of those difficult reviews to write....on one hand you want to shout from the rooftop how great this house is...and on the other hand you want to keep it your little secret....;o). But in fairness to the great job the owners have done ensuring no detail is overlooked....I'm going to give credit where credit is due. This house is FANTASTIC!!! We visited the house this past weekend for a girls wine tasting trip and not only were we blessed with incredible Fall weather...but we got the pleasure of retreating to this haven at night. The sitting room is FABULOUS...and the music system allowed us to set just the right mood. We enjoyed morning coffee in there and evening libations while warming ourselves by the fireplace. The farm table was the perfect place for games and dining. When we were tired we each could retreat to our own wonderfully made up beds and oversized sleeping areas. The linens on the bed were top notch...and everyone commented on how rested they were in the morning. Cannot say enough good things about this home...thanks Greg and Kathryn for creating and sharing such a special place.

Dayton Experience!

  • 5 of 5

Our family gathered from many states to attend a wedding, and this was the perfect house for us. We cooked, we enjoyed the spacious living and dining rooms, we slept comfortably in the wonderful beds, and we enjoyed the house and town immensely for the few short days we were there. It really was perfect for us. Everything was impeccable, we had wonderful customer service, and we would definitely recommend this Dayton Wine House to any and all. Thank you so much taking care of this historic home--we can tell it has been a labor of love. We will be back!

Spacious, charming, and very comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Dayton Wine House was fantastic! My fiancée and I booked the house for a combined bachelor/bachelorette party in Oregon wine country with our best friends. A bottle of rosé was waiting for us in the refrigerator upon our arrival, as well as gift cards and coupons for a number of area wineries.

The house is tastefully decorated throughout. We particularly enjoyed the amazingly comfortable oversized bean bag chairs in the media room, as well as relaxing in the adirondack chairs on the deck in the evenings.

Even with five couples, we never felt cramped or crowded. The beautiful dining table provided plenty of space for everyone to eat together and each of the rooms were spacious and comfortable. Although temperatures reached 100 degrees on the days we visited, the house remained pleasantly cool (the upstairs rooms were a bit warmer, but never uncomfortably so).

We loved our stay at the Dayton Wine House and look forward to staying there again in the future!

Quick Family Trip To Willamette Valley

  • 5 of 5

We stopped at this fantastic house for 2 nights on the way back from a family reunion in Newport. We would absolutely go back if we are ever in the area again! Everything from the cleanliness of the property to the accessibility of the owners for questions before and during our trip. The Rose' in the fridge was a great touch. Thanks so much to Kathy and Greg for providing this house as an option.
