One of Virginia’s best parks is Fairy Stone State Park only 25 miles away. Named after the crosses of stone that can be found, the park boasts a 168 acre Lake with beach, boating, fishing, scenic nature trails and picnic spots or sink your hook in the nearby Keibler Valley for mountain trout.

Chateau Morrisette, Virginia's largest winery is 9 miles down the Parkway. The Winery features musical festival throughout the summer. Visit Mayberry Trading Post, built in 1892 this originally housed the Mayberry Post Office as well as general store and see where the Andy Griffith family got their mail. Mayberry Presbyterian Church, founded in the early 1920’s by Rev, Bob Childress whose efforts were immortalized in the book “The Man Who Moved a Mountain”. Both a short walk from the Lodge.

Poor Farmer’s Market and Deli in Meadows of Dan is a must see, don’t miss the Hoop Cheese or fresh baked desserts. Also see Nancy’s Candies, tour the Homemade Fudge factory as chocolates and fudge are being made.

Great Wedding Venue: Spring is showy with Mountain Laurel and Rhododendron, summer abounds with the flowery garden and aviary acrobatics, fall is spectacular as color of the Parkway with October festivals and winter is a great romantic getaway by the 2 fireplaces.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The Owners wear great at providing all of the arrival information. The house was in a beautiful setting minutes from the stores of Meadows of Dan and right off of the Parkway. We even had some deer in the yard to welcome us.

Beautiful property

We enjoyed our stay at the Lodge @ Mayberry. The property is clean and has many amenities which make you feel at home. I loved the fireplace! My only complaint is that in the master bedroom you can hear the heat kick in and it does this constantly. We counted and it would go off and come on after a minute.

We enjoyed the changing leaves and going to Mabry Mill. The mountains are a beautiful place to visit. Thank you.

Never board and always relaxed. Parents and sons enjoyed the property very much. Everything you need to relax and play. This was the best rental we have stayed in this area.

The most peaceful place on earth.

I would highly recommend staying at this property. The setting is so peaceful and inspiring. It would be great for a wine getaway or small family get together. Our spirits soared soaking in the scenery of the huge pond, wild life and over all tranquility of the place. Everything was clean, fully stocked and beautifully appointed. Thanks for the memories!

Beautiful getaway right off the Blue Ridge Parkway

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect meeting spot for us and another family for the holiday weekend. First, the owners were very responsive and arranging the property was a breeze, as was arrival, settling in, and check-out. We had 4 adults and 5 children sleeping comfortably in beds without even needing the sofa beds. The surroundings are gorgeous. It's surrounded by country fields and a beautiful in back. Lovely tables and chairs on patio and on 3 seasons porch so adults can relax and take in the view while kids play in the huge yard or at the pond's edge. They ran, played ball, fished (catch and release,) and raced remote boats, played ultimate frisbee while the adults joined in or just had a drink on the patio. The small, but adequate, grill and the smaller, but very well stocked kitchen, were perfect for meals. Honestly, we would have been happy to just enjoy the property and never leave.

Still, we ventured out into Meadows of Dan to visit Poor Farmers market for produce and Mabry's Mill was fantastic. Nice easy hikes nearby for the kiddos. A rainy day adventure included Nancy's Candies and the toy store-science museum. Hopefully if we make it back, we can visit Chateau Morrisette which we have been told by others is lovely and a great place for a picnic and to catch some music in the summer. Who knew we would run out of time to do everything in a 3 night stay! We loved this property and our vacation and highly recommend The Lodge at Mayberry!
