We really enjoy every visit to Maui and the condos at Hale Mahina. This was our seventh stay but the first in this condo. This condo is beautifully decorated and the kitchen is full of everything you need to cook up your favorite meal. The sliding glass door opens right up to the pool and the beach. Perfect for watching the whales and eyeing the turtles sleeping on the beach at night.
A few drawbacks to this unit though...We found that the bedroom is extremely noisy. Although the bed is extremely comfortable the noise makes it near impossible to get a good nights sleep with the coming/going of the cars in the parking lot and the people walking by. Definitely the negative side to being on the ground floor. We have always stayed up on the third and fourth levels and you never hear the vehicle or people noise. Another drawback was the pull out bed from the couch. Very uncomfortable and very squeaky. The couch was comfortable, but the pull out bed could really use an upgrade to keep the condo advertising to sleep 4 people.
Overall we dealt with the minor imperfections and had a great time - Maui is gorgeous and we will return to the Hale Mahina condos on our next visit.
5th Time @ Hale Mahina
Just back from our 5th stay at the Hale Mahina and our 1st stay in B101. We had a wonderful vacation and the unit is beautifully appointed with most everything you need.
PROS: Completely and beautifully remodeled, comfy bed, everything you need for cooking. The biggest plus for us was the walkout access to the pool/beach. In upper units you need to come down the stairs and through the locked gate. With such ease of access we found we spent a lot more time outside, which we loved.
CONS: The comfy bed is small, maybe a queen but sometimes felt like a double. Can you tell we are used to a king? The units small, uncovered patio looks out to the pool and ocean but also to the path everyone else takes to get to the pool/ocean. This makes for a lack of privacy, especially at night when the lights are on. Most other guests make it a point to not peer into the unit but a couple of people had some issues respecting our privacy.
Despite the cons we would rent the unit again and we encourage you to stay at the Hale Mahina!
Our first visit to Hawaii was 1992, and we've had many visits to different islands over the years. This has been the most enjoyable for us in Maui. The kitchen is well stocked, which makes food prep easy. The location is walking distance to farmers market, ABC store and various shops and markets. The information book within the unit is helpful. A key point for us is a comfortable bed, and we were pleased. We loved walking out our door to a great beach and steps away from a beautiful pool. We had, for our first time, a number of mishaps; small things broke. It was nothing anyone could prevent just real life came knocking. A hole in our tea kettle, the washer on the fritz, and the lock on our door, I contacted Chasing Rainbows management and they had things fixed in a jiffy. I hated to call, did not want to complain but Melinda was far more concerned about our inconvenience. She was exceptional in both kindness and professionalism. And the last best thing, the people. We enjoyed the other families and retired vacationers, everyone was warm and friendly. From the whales in the distance to turtles sun bathing on the beach every day at Kale Mahina was an absolute pleasure.
