About Katie Wilson
I grew up in Idaho and have called Island Park my home since 2008. I'm a Park Ranger in Yellowstone, and this is my perfect retreat. I love to travel, fly fish, ski, snowmobile and just enjoy the quiet that this area offers.
Katie Wilson purchased this House in 2008

We enjoyed our stay in Island Park. The cabin was perfect to have a fire going and enjoy family time. The view outside was beautiful.
Pleasant economical stay
We stayed here two nights while meeting up with friends staying in Harriman. Close and convenient. Cozy. It is not a luxury cabin, but is a good value for what you get. Katie was very helpful with us when we accidentally lost a key. Would stay again if in the Harriman area of Island Park.
Cozy cabin under the stars
We enjoyed three nights in this cozy cabin. My husband, two children, and brother all slept comfortably and had a wonderful time. We played board games, watched movies, and cooked breakfast over the course of two days and three nights. The Wifi is very slow and we had little service the entire time. We were unable to get Netflix to work reliably. In the words of my husband, "Now we'll have to play games and actually talk to one another, darn." We were counting on this and made the most of the experience. We played scrabble, chess, and pass the pigs. My brother and son played several games of chess. In the evenings, after the kids had gone to bed, we ended up playing scrabble on the table next to the wood stove. My daughter made a cozy fort out of pillows and the numerous quilts and blankets. They came in handy considering the weather outside. The bedrooms were very warm and the beds were very comfortable. This cabin is obviously a labor of love, but also a work in progress. While some parts of the cabin are a bit older and in need of updating, that's part of the charm. The deck out front was great, and we had no trouble getting into the front. It is well lit with solar lights. This deck had the best viewing of the Milky Way during our stay. If I could make a recommendation, it would be to save up for lights that can be turned off. We are avid stargazers and would have loved to sit on the deck in as little light as possible. The kitchen was our favorite room. We made breakfast two days and the only thing we missed were measuring cups. I'm sure they were hiding somewhere. Overall, we had a wonderful time and our children were able to experience Yellowstone at the best time of year. The park was empty and most of the town was closed. However, we still had a serviceable food mart, full-service restaurant, and gas within 5 minutes. The pizza was awesome at Pond's Lodge. My husband was able to secure a last minute 2-hour trail ride at Harriman State Park (15 minutes away) on the last weekend of the season. Dry Ridge Outfitters took all 5 of us on an amazing ride up to a view point of the tetons and back. My 6 year old daughter was well taken care of and rode her own horse up and down some pretty steep trail. Overall, we were so happy to have experienced Island Park and Yellowstone. I recommend this cabin for easy going couples/families looking to get away from it all and experience nature's beauty.
Worn out and needs a deep clean and repair
From the pictures it looks homey and a cabin with character but in reality it hadn’t been cleaned well in a long time and had many issues. I should have taken my initial interactions as a warning. The home owner/Manager is not very responsive and wouldn’t take payment through HomeAway. But onto the house, first off the steps to the entry were literally falling down (concrete degrading) and the back steps weren’t much better (uneven heights and widths) and the path to the front is hazardous carrying anything due to the large amount of rocks sticking out. Secondly when we got in it was dirty (not trash on the ground but poorly cleaned) to the point we had to check for bed bugs in the mattresses (which themselves were very old) as we pulled out the couch bed for my kids we noticed the bed frame itself was broken. The TV mounted above their bed was poorly mounted with holes all around. In the bedrooms everything looked like it was from a garage sale and not well kept. The bathroom had loose tiles and poor electical and overall workmanship everywhere. The kitchen was a cross from the 1970s and a worn out cabin. The wine cooler and dishwasher were mounted on 2x4s and crooked, the floor was covering up some severe soft spots and the oven was covered in old grease and looked older then my grandparents. The back porch was poorly put together with extension cords instead of proper wiring. The back yard was filled with 2 broken down cars and a snowmobile ... overall not something I would put up for rent of any amount. In the end we toughed it out and greatly enjoyed our next homeaway property. Lastly when we packed up and left my mom accidentally packed a few small items in our stuff that we should have left (cheap glass dish, a few utensils, and a cheap throw blanket) but I immediately contacted the owner/manager to send a payment $25 for the property accidentally taken. It had been days and the only response I’ve gotten was “a invoice is coming” and instead of finishing this up it is now become a issue dragging along. I would love to talk to someone with HomeAway on how they vet owners and managers.
Not worth it .. Beware Beware Beware!!! Not recommended for Stay....
We stayed at this house for 3 days. When we reached the location it took us a while to find the it as the left lane towards house is hidden and even the sign for hatchery house is not that visible. When we finally were able to find it, we were shocked to see the entrance to the home. There were so many big stones on the path to the house and none of the front lights were on.We used car lights to find the entrance and it was hard to get into home. When we went inside the house, we were even shocked more after seeing the cleanliness of the house.I could see spider webs all across the corners especially in the kitchen. All Kitchen utensils are so old, it seems owner placed her own used utensils there. Moreover when we checked the bathroom, the tub in the bathroom had very much visible yellow stains in it.Few lights were also not working. After traveling 150 miles from amazing stay in Grand Teton and reaching there we had huge disappointment.Don't fall for the pictures posted on the website, they have been smartly taken to hide the details I mentioned. But still as we were in dire need, we stayed and informed owner about problems we faced. She sent housekeeping girl next day who promised to come back in some time to clean as we were having break fast. She did come back later but spider webs were still there. When we told about bathroom tub stains, she went to clean it and later told us those stains are these for 2 years there.I have pictures of all the things I mentioned above. Moreover, the internet merely works.Speed is so less you can't even surf, watching tv is not an option.Porch in the back also need some cleaning.Overall this place is an utter disappointment and needs huge overhaul and not worth the price. And the last thing to mention, owner has some set of rules regarding garbage bag disposal. As per the rule, we need to throw the garbage bag in the garbage disposal facility located 4-5 miles to north from the place so we obliged and took our garbage in car with us and dumped it there.Lady there noted our number plate as well but one day later we saw a transaction on my card for 10garbage bags worth of 50$. She didn't even notify anything to us.When we asked, she told we didn't dispose off our garbage and showed some fake photos. When we asked her and also told her to check records with garbage disposal facility as they have entry for our car.She never responded and still charged the card. Please watch out for yourselves and don't stay in this ghost house.
An unfortunate experience!
The property is 45 minutes from Yellowstone NP and needs some work to bring it up to standard. The front steps are crumbling and an accident waiting to happen. The views are non existent if you consider a view of 2 derelict cars a view in the first place.
On our arrival the property had not been cleaned and the state of the cooker was disgusting. The property was spacious but that doesn't count for much when one of the beds is broken and supported by a wooden log.
You also have to remove your rubbish to a site about 5 miles away which is less than convenient and makes you wonder what the cleaner does.
In a 6 week tour of the states this is the only property we had cause to complain about and we're still accused of leaving our rubbish in a neighbours bin. I must admit I did take photos of the property but didn't think to photograph our rubbish before disposal. In my view this is a property being managed remotely and without any real concern for it's customers.
Yellowstone National Park is only a few miles away.
