Hatchery House was the perfect vacation home for our two couples. It was cozy and we'll equipped.

  • 5 of 5

From first glance inside (and out!) of this home, we knew we were going to have a great week.

Both beds were extremely comfortable, and the bathroom was really nice. We especially loved the kitchen!

Hatchery House was well equipped in every room, including a washer and dryer.

When we weren't rushing out the door at the crack of dawn to go explore, we were kicking back at the house. The back deck was the perfect spot for coffee in the mornings and just enjoy nature.

Centrally located, we easily were able to visit Yellowstone, some Montana lakes, The Grand Tetons and Jackson Hole.

The only thing we were disappointed with was the fire pit. The walls on it were so high, it was hard to feel the heat or watch the flames. The fire season was so bad, that we were sure it was a safer way to go, so it was understandable.

Because of this, we only used it one night.

We would definitely stay there again. Thank you Katie for providing such a great place to stay! You've done a beautiful job! We hope you enjoyed the little crafts we left around.

The House was really dusty

  • 2 of 5

I don't recommend to stay here if you have asthma it's really dusty even the floors were dusty. Not what I expected. There were spider webs in every room like if the house hasn't been cleaned in a while. The towles were in the dryer wet and had a really bad damp smell. If you want to use the grill be prepared to give it a really good scrub before hand when we arrived it was super dirty. I called the owner to let her know some details and she said she would send housekeeping to clean it up but they never showed up. The stove and refrigerator were super dirty too I had to clean the house before we settled in. Makes me think if the cleaning fee is for the renters or for housekeeping 🤔?. Only good thing we were happy with was the bed it was comfortable.

Salt Lake City

Needs some love- Nice layout, but wasn’t clean enough for kids to crawl around.

This place would be great for a guys fishing weekend, but left something to be desired for a family with a 1 year old scooting around. Within 20 minutes of arriving, her pants were black from the floor. Old and shabby pillows, blankets and furniture, as well as dirty bbq utensils on the porch made the experience less comfortable. Also, the property is a stones throw from the highway, so there is steady drone of traffic decreasing the ambiance. WiFi was also an issue, which would normally not be a concern on vacation, except my wife needed it for a few unavoidable work calls.

Suitable if looking for an inexpensive place to stay.

  • 3 of 5

Our stay at the Hatchery House was good, but there were definitely areas that could be improved. It was a little hard to find the house. The road and numbers are confusing. It wasn't until our last day there that I realized there is a little sign on a tree that says "Hatchery House" in white letters. Maybe that could be improved? Look for that when you first enter the road. The grounds of the house could definitely use improvement. It is not kept up well and on the property are two old cars. There is a fire pit, but it is very industrial looking with logs as seating.

Upon entering the place looked clean. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the rooms and the beds were comfortable. I think the perfect description is that it's just an old cabin and it needs some work. But it is suitable and I thought the price was on point for that area. I'm not sure how it can sleep 8 unless you put 3 in each king bed and 2 on the pull out sofa. It felt like a cabin that hunters would stay in for the weekend. Or guys on a fishing trip. We made it work for our family of 7 though. There are plenty of blankets, bathroom towels, and the kitchen is well stocked. My biggest complaint is that there were no dish rags/towels for the kitchen. There is a dishwasher, but it would be helpful to have a rag to wipe counters and a towel to dry dishes. The table is also kind of icky. Food falls into the cracks and stays there. But the size of the table was perfect for our big family.

When arriving i found wet, stinky towels in the dryer. I had to re-wash before I could do my own laundry. There is also no a/c in the place (didn't know this) and the dryer heats up the house and doesn't work super well. The washer/dryer in the house is different than the picture.

The wifi password we got through the check-in from VRBO didn't work for us. The owner was helpful in giving us the right one. The propane on the grill was also empty. Again, the owner was very helpful in getting it filled within one days time. Our contact with her was great.

The drive to the west gate of Yellowstone is about 35 minutes. Once in you also drive a lot. Expect a lot of car time. Overall if you need a cheaper place to stay that won't break the bank, this is definitely doable. Nothing super special about it, but it works!

Great space and all you need to make for a cozy stay

  • 5 of 5

Great cabin with plenty of room for the 6 of us (4 adults, 2 kids). Floor space in the bedrooms was ample for the 2 kids. Living space was perfect for reading in one room, cooking, or enjoying the back deck and bbq. Location close to the river for fishing was not overlooked!

Thank you!

Great Cabin Near Yellowstone

  • 5 of 5

We, family of 5, stayed in the Hatchery House for three nights, and it was exactly what we needed. First of all the location is great. It was about 35 minutes from the western entrance to Yellowstone. We used this cabin as our base as we explored, and it was nice to have a private cabin close to our destination. Also, the cabin itself was charming. It is obvious that Katie cares about the cabin, for it was very clean and the beds were really comfortable. She also has a few games which we played while sitting on the comfortable couches. The cabin also has a deck at the back which we used for grilling and just enjoying the peace of the outdoors. Overall, this was exactly what we needed and we really enjoyed our stay.
