About Melissa

I'm an architect and real estate agent. I love my home and want to share it with others coming to check out the fun southern city of nashville. I'm originally from the deep south of Mississippi. What I love about Nashville is you can find the southern sweetness and charm along with artistic creativity of urbanites, and there's always something to do.

Melissa purchased this house in 2013

Nashville Disappointment

  • 3 of 5

My daughter and I recently spent 3 weeks in Nashville while she attended classes at Tennessee State University. We chose this property because of its proximity to the Main Campus. Overall, the location of this property is very convenient to everything (including only about 10 minutes to downtown). They say location is everything, so I'm giving 3 stars for location. My husband and I have stayed at several rental properties with Home Away and VRBO, so I know what to expect when I book a property. This one was a disappointment. Immediately upon entering the home, I noticed that it just didn't smell clean. I thought, "Ok, it's Nashville. It's really humid here. Maybe that's it." Not so. I was really shocked at the condition of the inside of the cabinets and all the drawers. Let's just say that we didn't use the cabinets to store any of our food and we washed all dishes and utensils before using them. We never used the dishwasher because it really smelled, so I just left it closed and washed all dishes by hand. The oven was also quite dirty. The furniture and rugs are worn and dirty (I get shabby chic and antiques, but dirty is dirty). I was also shocked when I went to unpack and found that all the main level clothes closets were locked. I had to hang my clothes over the doorway in the hallway. I did mention this to Melissa, the owner, when she came by with a repairman to do outside work one day. She offered to come back and clean out one of the closets, but I simply didn't want to deal with it. I asked her if she lived there when people weren't renting it, she said that she uses it for storage. There was more than adequate closet space downstairs, but it was inconvenient for me to go up and down the steep stairs every time I needed something. The laundry room was available to us, but I also had to clean the washer and dryer before they could be used.

Now, I admit to being a picky housekeeper. But this was unexpected for a property that I paid $3,500 (with a 10% discount!) for 3 weeks. I have photos, but don't see a way to post them here. Also it doesn't want to let me uncheck the "I loved it" and chose "Not Really". This may be a great place for people who want to have a party house (which I'm sure the neighbors in this quiet neighborhood do not appreciate), but it wasn't great for us. One last thing, only the TV in the living room has cable TV. All the others have very limited channels.

The Perfect House for Family

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for my husband and I along with our grown children and 2 grand Kids. One of our sons were getting married and we needed a place for family to gather. It met our needs perfectly. A quiet place to put the kids down, a large living area where we could hang out, and the deck was the perfect place to spend the evening gathered around the large table enjoying one an other's company. Plenty of space for everyone.

The house was clean, well appointed, and Melissa was so easy to work with. Thank you for your generous hospitality!
