About Sales at Turning Leaf Vacation Rentals

In the mid-1990s Bob and Susan Fleming acquired two dilapidated log cottages along fayette springs road in chalk hill, pa. As director of a major area tourist attraction, susan fleming recognized the value of these properties both historically and economically but it was challenging to get anyone to agree to restore rather than demolish the houses, which were built in the 1930’s as hunting camps and abandoned to the elements for years.

With the help of some resourceful contractors, the couple was able to transform the cottages into the luxuriously rustic retreats you see today. The first cottage to welcome tourists opened in 1997 and the second in 2005. The flemings treasure their little piece of history and have enjoyed hosting visitors from all over the world for nearly 20 years. Automobiles and airplanes have replaced the boats and trains, a world-class spa has replaced the fayette springs, but the experiences of iconic architecture, pristine wilderness, exceptional white water, and unrivaled trails continue to draw tourists to our region.

Sales at Turning Leaf Vacation Rentals purchased this cottage in 1995

Why Sales at Turning Leaf Vacation Rentals chose Farmington

The property on which the cottages (Springs House is the 'sister' property to the Creek House) are located is the site of the original Fayette Springs, a popular resort and spa to which tourists flocked in the mid 1800’s. According to advertisements in the “genius of liberty,” a local newspaper from that period, people came from all over the east by train to Ohiopyle or boat to Brownsville, then by horse and buggy to partake of the health benefits of the water in the stream that runs behind the cabins. The water was guaranteed to cure all sorts of ailments. All that remains of the original spa are photos and some artifacts; a hand-carved stone basin, stone columns, a large stone slab with graffiti depicting names and dates from the period, and a fresh-water well that is dug into the mountainside.

What makes this cottage unique

The Creek House provides a luxuriously quiet experience for that discerning small family or a couples retreat from the city while still being close to all the activity centers associated with the Ohiopyle area.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Such a beautiful spot you have. We enjoyed ourselves very much. Toured Fallingwater, shopped Youghiogheny Glass and took in Festival in Ohiopyle. Thanks for allowing us to share your space!

Clean, cozy and had everything we needed!

  • 5 of 5

We took our two teenage boys in a little getaway. This is a sweet cabin surrounded by a beautiful creek and woods. We had a wonderful stay!

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us! Thank you for your kind words---this is a special place for a family getaway! The setting of this cabin is so tucked away; but, still close to all the activity of the area. Come back again real soon!

Charming cabin

  • 4 of 5

Charming cabin with great amenities in a good location. Payment was not convenient and not through the website.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to provide a guest review. We are certainly grateful for it. Though we respectfully disagree with the guest it is a good opportunity to clarify that this property is NOT set up to use the HomeAway Payments System. Candidly, the owner (and our business) is grateful VRBO/HomeAway still allows alternate payment methods (some listing sites are not as flexible) as some guests still like to pay by check and our business has it's own credit card processing (again, which VRBO/HomeAway) still allows, thankfully. To ensure the alternative payment method is convenient, we definitely advise future guests to read our correspondence and follow the instructions. If there is something that is not clear please contact us directly, we will absolutely take the time to describe your options---and then you can book. If a guests fails to follow the instructions related to payment, it can indeed get inconvenient for guests (and us actually) as was the case here.

Lovely property, not so lovely payment process

  • 3 of 5

While the property was comfortable and well maintained, dealing with the third party realty company was a problem. Having to mail two separate checks directly to the realty company was inconvenient and there was a disconnect between vrbo and the realtor as we kept getting reminders to pay from vrbo after we had paid the realtor in full. While the experience with vrbo was positive, we will probably not rent from you again if we have to deal with a third party.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your guest feedback. Yes, sometimes the payment process, especially via a reservation request process where a listing is not using HomeAway's Payments system can be confusing. Though as the rental company we see the value of the HomeAway Payments system for some properties, we also reserve the right to not use it for other properties as guest feedback for direct payment has been requested. Nevertheless, we completely understand if you would not elect to use this or our properties in the future! Happy travels!

Great location - wonderful cottage!

  • 5 of 5

This place was comfortable and relaxing. I had a group of 6 friends and were there for our "adventure weekend". we were close to the place to go white water rafting, and where we went caving. This cottage was set up really nicely - no issues and booking was very simple. Thanks for the great stay!

Relaxing, well maintained, creekside cabin

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the cabin. It was a close to everything, had a private deck that over looks a creek. There is another cabin on the property but the way they are oriented makes them both very private. The cabin was comfortable with all the comforts of home. I was concerned about it not having AC because the temperatures were in the high 80's. I was pleasantly surprised that due to the cabins position in the mountains and shade, the cabin always felt cool and comfortable. The owners and manager were both great to work with. It was a slice of heaven and I would recommend this to anyone.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to provide a guest review. So, glad you were able to enjoy the privacy and comfort of the Creek House. Many think the lack of a/c in the Creek House is a concern only to find the shade and the positioning of the home keeps it comfortable for the bulk of the summer (still a few weeks in August where it might be desired for some guests). Glad to have had you as our guest!
