About Sales at Turning Leaf Vacation Rentals

In the mid-1990s Bob and Susan Fleming acquired two dilapidated log cottages along fayette springs road in chalk hill, pa. As director of a major area tourist attraction, susan fleming recognized the value of these properties both historically and economically but it was challenging to get anyone to agree to restore rather than demolish the houses, which were built in the 1930’s as hunting camps and abandoned to the elements for years.

With the help of some resourceful contractors, the couple was able to transform the cottages into the luxuriously rustic retreats you see today. The first cottage to welcome tourists opened in 1997 and the second in 2005. The flemings treasure their little piece of history and have enjoyed hosting visitors from all over the world for nearly 20 years. Automobiles and airplanes have replaced the boats and trains, a world-class spa has replaced the fayette springs, but the experiences of iconic architecture, pristine wilderness, exceptional white water, and unrivaled trails continue to draw tourists to our region.

Sales at Turning Leaf Vacation Rentals purchased this cottage in 1995

Why Sales at Turning Leaf Vacation Rentals chose Laurel Highlands

The property on which the cottages are located is the site of the original Fayette Springs, a popular resort and spa to which tourists flocked in the mid 1800’s. According to advertisements in the “genius of liberty,” a local newspaper from that period, people came from all over the east by train to ohiopyle or boat to brownsville, then by horse and buggy to partake of the health benefits of the water in the stream that runs behind the cabins. The water was guaranteed to cure all sorts of ailments. All that remains of the original spa are photos and some artifacts; a hand-carved stone basin, stone columns, a large stone slab with graffiti depicting names and dates from the period, and a fresh-water well that is dug into the mountainside.

What makes this cottage unique

The Springs House provides its guest a luxuriously quiet experience while still being close to all the activity centers associated with the ohiopyle area.

Lovely Location! Lovely owners!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I went to PA to hike in Ohiopyle State Park and the Cottages at Fayette Springs were the perfect place to stay and relax after hiking. There was a small mix-up in the reservation but the bonus was that we were able to spend a night in both of the cottages and they are both quaint, cozy and comfortable. The kitchens are well stocked and the views are beautiful. And I can't say enough positive things about the owners. They addressed our concerns immediately and made sure we had a wonderful weekend. 5 stars all the way around! Will stay here again if we return to the area.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us! I know that we (on behalf of the owners) really appreciated your understanding of the "mix up" you say, so, glad you were able to experience both cabins! We would love to have you back! It's was our pleasure to "make it right". Thanks again for understanding and being such great guests.

A tidy place to quiet yourself down.

  • 5 of 5

Put a back to the northeastern seaboard and a face to spotty sunlight through the leaves. Argued and lost with the three grandfather hickories on the deck. Learned myself the difference between a brook and a creek. Slept like I did when I was good at that and little else.

Charming cabin and location

  • 5 of 5

We loved this little cabin. It had everything we wanted, cozy, clean, nice kitchen. Very comfortable.

Suggest they have hand soap available as well as matches for the fireplace.

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary and had a wonderful weekend. It is the perfect cottage for a quiet, restful, peaceful getaway. I based our rental on the other reviews and will say that they are all accurate and true! Thank you!

Such a quaint cozy cabin. We absolutely loved our stay. Perfect for a couple looking to getaway...

  • 4 of 5

This cabin is like something out of a Thomas Kinkade portrait. The setting is peaceful and serene. The cabin is warm and cozy and even pet friendly! We had a wonderful time and look forward to going back.

The only negative comment I have is that the pots and pans were covered in mouse droppings. I know mice are a constant battle but sterilizing and cleaning the cookware should have been done before our arrival. This didn't take away from the overall charm of the place and I still highly recommend it!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. The Springs House is a remarkable place to getaway from it all! We sincerely apologize for the condition of the pots and pans. You are correct. Mice and other critters are a constant battle as the Springs House rustic setting, in an among nature, makes this even more difficult. Thank you for your recommendation being maintained even this experience. We will certainly address it for future guests!

The perfect comfy, cozy home

  • 5 of 5

Love love loved this cabin. It completely made our weekend and I would go back and visit in a heartbeat. It was very clean, warm, and cozy. We brought full groceries up to cook meals for the weekend and the kitchen had everything we needed. The backyard is beautiful and loved the sound the little stream made. We drove up Friday night, went white water rafting on Saturday, grilled out and drank wine by the fire on Saturday night, and went to see Falling Water on Sunday. It was the perfect weekend and this cabin made it that much better. Thanks for having us!! I will definitely recommend this to friends/family.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us! We love hearing from guests that they were able to enjoy the property for it's own wonderfully, cozy merits but experience the activity (white water rafting) and destinations (Fallingwater) that make the area famous! Enjoying wine on the deck does not sound bad either! Come back again real soon!
