Completed in 2014, Cloudbreak is a beautiful, bright and airy 2 bedroom/2 bath home which is fully air conditioned. Our home can also be divided into an upstairs/downstairs duplex. The downstairs is available as a beautifully appointed studio with full kitchen, modern appliances, inside full bath with walk in shower and outside shower area and it's own washer and dryer. The downstairs front porch has a garden view and is perfect for listening to the morning song birds. The upstairs is available as a separate rental which is a 1 bed/1bath apartment. The upstairs has front and rear porches with tongue and groove high beam ceilings. The view is 360 degrees of the Atlantic and the Exuma Sound. The upstairs has an additional full kitchen, large bathroom with walk in shower, and it's own washer and dryer. The two are connected by a private covered stairwell which allows the flexibility of being rented as a 2 bedroom/2 bath home or separating the upstairs from the downstairs. All our floors are turquoise, blue, stained concrete. This gives you the illusion of walking on water. We have designed our home to be surfer, snorkeler and fisherman friendly. We have plenty of porches for lounging, storing and rinsing whatever beach gear you may have.
Our home has brand new Mitsubishi slim AC units in all rooms.
Kitchens include: Microwave, oven/stove, coffee maker, dishwasher, refrigerator, crock pot, blenders, rice cooker, pots/pans, silver ware, dish ware, and more.
Sleeping arrangements: Downstairs has a queen bed and a queen futon in the TV area, sleeps four. Upstairs has a private bedroom with queen bed and a queen futon in the open living room, sleeps four. Families are always welcome.
The best deal is renting the whole house.
Extras: Guest cell phone (self pay), 2 person kayak, cooler, beach chairs.
Car rentals: Please contact us for information. A rental car is highly recommended to see the island and get the most from your vacation. We are 5 miles from the nearest store.
Airports: We are in between the North Eleuthera Airport and the Governor's Harbour Airport. We are thirty minutes to either one. Check with United, Silver Airways, American, and Bahamas Air. There are direct flights from Ft. Lauderdale and Miami, Florida.
Connections from Nassau can be made please call us for assistance.
We have made our home an oasis to be enjoyed. Come be our guests.
Tom is a retired Firefighter, a surfer, and a pilot.
Maureen is currently employed as a Firefighter of 26 years on the job.
We both have an adventurous spirit.
We fell in love with Eleuthera many years ago.
Our children grew up vacationing on the island throughout there childhood. We currently reside in Florida.
Thomas McDevitt purchased this house in 2014
After having young adult dreams of building a home on Eleuthera, we worked hard to accomplish our goal.
In 2009 we looked for vacant land to build a home and found a incredible lot which most Bahamians say is the highest lot on Eleuthera. THE VIEW!!!
THE VIEW!!! and THE BREEZES!!! The beaches and local Bahamaian culture keep us coming back. We love the laid back lifestyle.
This was one of the most relaxing vacations we have ever taken and I know that contributes to the slice of paradise ya'll have found in Eleuthera, as well as the homey, beachy feel we felt staying in your lovely home. Ya'll really did an amazing job with the house and I feel like you really thought of everything a beach house would need and more. The house is in a great location and has THE BEST views of beaches on both sides of the house, as well as all surrounding areas. Surfers beach was such an quick walk from the house and we went almost everyday, sometimes to just take in all the views. In our opinion we think ya'll built in the perfect location and in the perfect settlement. The locals were so friendly and helpful and Gregory Town is such a cool little town to just walk around in and explore. The neighbors and all the locals were always genuinely kind to us and helped us if we need anything. One of the locals even brought us home grown fruit one day just to welcome us! We had a blast and we are seriously already planning a return trip with a to-do list a mile long. I would recommend this island and staying at this PERFECT beach house to anyone who loves the beauty of seclusion, natural beauty, constant exploration, and learning what that Bahamas are really about.
Thanks Tom & Maureen for another wonderful stay! This time I brought the entire family (5 of us) and we quickly and comfortably settled in upon arrival. Gladys and Roberto provided us with an SUV rental which was perfect for getting around with 5 adults. The older kids (23 & 20) couldn't believe the amazing views and awesome accommodations. I think they took pictures from every angle on the porches. Sunrises, sunsets, and the water. Mr. Gibson, as always, was available for any questions or assistance and we enjoyed our time with him. We love the proximity to the airport (ELH), Governor's Harbor, French Leave beach (our favorite for swimming, surfing & snorkeling), Rainbow Bay (great snorkeling), Gaulding Cay beach (great for smaller children), and great restaurants! Thanks for sharing your wonderful home with us again! I relax there like no where else!
We had an absolutely amazing trip! This home is super relaxing, and Melinda and I agree best vacation ever! :) The owners put incredible attention to detail and are very artistic in their design and color schemes throughout the house. It is located on the highest point on the island, giving you an amazing 360 degree view, perfect for watching sunrises and sunsets. Since located on this outer island so far from cities, at night time the sky is bright with stars, and we could see fireflies in the trees and lightning in the distance, our own natural private fireworks show.
We arrived on Saturday. Spent all day Sunday at the three snorkeling sites recommended. The first spot Naval base was a bit spooky and exciting. "The Pines" site had the largest coral reef I've ever seen so close to shore. I loved the deep shelves with big fish and Melinda liked the more shallow areas with smaller colorful fish. The sky resort was the perfect last stop with barbecue, pool bar, and hot tub! Yesterday we ate breakfast (delicious Coconut French toast) at the Cove and used their beach. The Cove will let you in as long as you have reservations for the restaurant, thus you have to call ahead and make a reservation, and that is what gets you "on the guest list." As long as you're eating there, that makes you a paying customer, and with their high prices, you're definitely paying for the nice amenities. The hammocks are nice for taking naps. After breakfast, we slipped into our swimwear. Plenty of open comfortable chairs on the beach, while sitting there they pamper you and bring towels, ice water, and popsicles for free. All of the toys are laying on the beach, just walk up and grab a kayak or paddle board for free. After the beach, hop in the infinity pool to rinse salt water off and kick back with a drink and enjoy the view. Melinda says they make the best pinacoladas. Each night went back to the house, relaxed on the upper floor balcony and watched the sunset into the ocean. They have a nice stereo system that I was able to play music over Bluetooth from my phone, and a high tech Samsung TV that I was able to play Google movies from my phone using WiFi Smart Connect while kicking back with a couple cold beers from the refrigerator. All the amenities from home, on a beautiful tropical island with crystal clear water and colorful reefs, doesn't get better than this!
Cloudbreak and Eleuthera did not disappoint. Exactly what our family was looking for. We absolutely loved the rugged and adventurous island and the happy people. The house is incredible. There are viewpoints where you can actually see 2 different oceans at the same time. Very comfortable and well-appointed. Tom and Maureen have clearly put a lot of thought into the home. If you like to be off the beaten path and love an unspoiled beautiful island, this is the place.
Great place for a secluded getaway. The house was very clean and had everything you could need to make you comfortable.
This was my second stay at Cloudbreak and all of my original comments still apply. The perfect island home for Eleuthera. Arguably one of the best views on the island, clean and well-appointed, form following function, & affordable. If you are considering Cloudbreak, make the reservation now as you don't want to miss locking in your dates of travel. The owners are very accessible, friendly, and accommodating. To top it off, the caretaker, Mr. Gibson, is a pleasure to meet and discuss the island. We will be back soon!
Cloudbreak is located on the highest point at Surfer's Beach, Eleuthera Island Shores. The first floor is 194' above sea level which allows a view of the local flora and fauna. From the Second floor porches you have a 360 degree view of the Island, a true ocean view. Sunrise and Sunset is a daily experience. Cool breezes and stunning views of the colorful Atlantic Ocean are on one side and on the other side Exuma Sound. This local enclave is the closets residential neighborhood to Surfers Beach. A wonderful reef break known to be one of the most fun and consistent breaking waves in all of the Bahamas. Some surfers describe it as a perfect left. Do not despair if surfing is not your thing. When the waves lay down the swimming and snorkeling are exceptional, not to mention the shear beauty of the rolling pink sand beach. Cloudbreak Bahamas will transport you to the ideal beach adventure or romantic get away that you have been dreaming of. This wonderful beach is a 15 minute walk on nature trails.
What makes us different:
Eleuthera Island Shores is an eclectic community of musicians, artists, expats and local Bahamians. You can rent a board from a local surf school down the street. The labyrinth of trails out your front door will always let you experience nature at its best. Surfer's Beach is a great place to start but Holiday Beach, Hatchet Bay and James Cistern also offer some world class surfing within a 20 minute drive. Fishing is a big draw to the island. Both pole fishing and spear fishing can be done at Surfer's or off any beach that you may find down any road off of Queen's Highway. Gregory Town is where you can shop, have a beer and mingle with the locals. Eleuthera is the place if you love gin clear blue water, deserted beaches, unusual views and vistas and crazy beach combing. It is not the place for night life, gambling, fancy bars or resorts. Our home is the perfect place to immerse yourself in an out of the way island life and experience the rugged, raw beauty of the Bahamas. This is the place to get away from it all. An adventurer's spirit is required.
What's available from the locals:
Gregory Town has two groceries, two gas/fuel stations, several snack shops, two liquor stores and the following restaurants: Unca Gene's Bar and Restaurant, Daddy Joe's, and the Cove when you feel like spending some money. Surfboards can be rented from Rebeca's Straw market from Pony Tail Pete or Tom Glucksman at Surfers Haven. There are also some good eats at the Rainbow Inn in Rainbow Bay and down further in James Cistern at Kel D's. There is always something for everyone except fast food.
During the first week in June you have the Pineapple Festival and Pineapplthon in Gregory Town. For a great Day Trip you can catch a water taxi to either Harbour Island or Spanish Wells. The 'Bat Caves' are a mile away from our home on Queen's Highway for great spelunking. Eleuthera Is. Organics is opening a farmers market in Gregory Town for fresh produce. Fresh fish can be found at many of the docks through out the island. The Levi Botanical Garden is a must in Governor's Harbor along with the Friday night fish fry. The Lighthouse point is an all day adventure that should not be missed. Along the way don't forget to stop in at Ocean Hole in Rock Sound. On all of your adventures never, never forget your snorkeling gear, a beach and reef are always near. If you need to rent snorkeling gear see Mr. Pete in Gregory Town.
