I am Daniel Caldwell an artist paintings in oils. The Bahamas has been a wonderful muse for my work for over 25 years now. I have built this home as part of the inspiration for my work. I also paint there and share time with my wife Liz our 3 kids William,Lizzie, and Chris . We all and love Eleuthera, the island life and to surf, sail ,dive ,and fish.
Daniel Caldwell purchased this cottage in 2012
Eleuthera is rich in art history.... American Master Winslow Homer painted here 100 years ago and many wonderful artist have followed suit. The island ,offers pristine natural beauty ,laid back and friendly Bahamian culture as well as a new twist ...the surfer / artist culture which evolved in Gregory Town over the last 50 years. This culture keeps great vibe going for those who get it. I will admit it's not for everyone....I've grown to love it and pinch myself to be part of this season in the islands history.
Remote quite , minimal simpler way of life , pristine beauty, fun surf on occasion. Plenty of social life or not.
Breathtaking views! Millions of stars! Most comfortable bed! Spotless! Staying here is like a warm island hug. We felt very lucky to have found Sea Cliff.
Wonderful place to stay. Great house, amazing location and great people.
My girlfriend and I could not have been more pleased with our stay at Sea Cliff. The experience was amazing on several levels. As demonstrated by so many previous reviews, the locals are extremely friendly and accommodating and the scenery is breathtaking. You have no choice but to unwind as you settle into "island time"! Although we did get out and enjoy some of the sights and local flavors, we were often so enthralled with the sights and sounds experienced right on the deck at Sea Cliff that we were more than content remaining at the cottage on some days. And once I got the hang of fishing from the platform at the base of the cliff, I had a hoot hauling in the smaller varieties of grouper and porgy that dwell near the platfom.
Undoubtedly, Eleuthera may not be for everyone. If you're looking for nightlife, luxury, and convenience, this may not be the place for you. However, if simple comforts, relaxation, a slower pace, exceptional natural beauty and the experience of a different local flavor and way of life sound good to you, this could be exactly the place you're looking for.
Absolutely beautiful island and perfect cottage. Couldn't be better. Daniel provides everything you could possible need there from snorkling gear to beach towels to directions and contacts of the best places and things to do. If you're going to Eleuthera as a couple wanting some alone time, come here. Warning, every place is in extreme solitude so it can feel eerie if your from a bigger city but the island is perfectly safe. Everybody there is super nice. You could hand a stranger $500 to hold while you go out to dinner and when you return they'd give you $550. Great place.
If you're looking to get away from it all, this is the place for you! The cottage is settled in the beautiful sea cliffs where all you can hear are the crashing waves and mother nature outside the windows. From the deck, the views off to the left and right are the cliff sides and in front of you is the water as far as the eye can see. We enjoyed our morning coffee and breakfast on the deck every day, saying hello to our sea turtle friends and fishes below. It is beautifully decorated with many of Dan's own paintings which are just perfect. The cottage is equipped with all the basic essentials and is very cozy. We did lots of cooking in the kitchen, breakfast every day and a few dinners. In late October the breezes off the water were so lovely that we opened the windows and hardly needed AC - just to blast away the humidity on the first day. The place is very clean and well kept, and Daniel is extremely responsive and friendly - he will answer all of your questions and give you tips about the best spots on the island! We visited during slow season, so many of the towns were extremely quiet. We did find some fantastic places to eat - the best island food we've had to date!! All of the locals are so friendly, and the island feels exceptionally safe. At first I wasn't sure how it would be without WIFI or tv, but I honestly was so relieved to be without it and truly disconnect from it all. We enjoyed all that mother nature had to offer, and did lots of reading. We returned home feeling relaxed and rejuvenated!! Thanks for a lovely stay!
Before I begin I would like to say that Daniel was great. Emails were answered promptly and he had a lot of helpful info.
This place...where do I start?
No television, no computer, no WiFi, my phone didn't even get service...instead of maintaining a solid grip on our ties to the modern world, you know what we got?
An ocean view that that was only interrupted by the curve of the Earth. Sunsets that looked like they were crafted by Bob Ross himself (including one that featured a double rainbow...Bob didn't even venture to paint stuff like that). Front row seats to lightning storms whose only drawbacks were that it momentarily interrupted our view of the Milky Way. Quiet nights filled only with the sound of waves gently lapping against the rocky cliffs below. A central location that granted great access to everything on the island. A surprisingly comfy bed.
Let me ask you something? Have you ever had your morning coffee while watching sea turtles swim through crystal clear waters?
I have and it's awesome.
Sea Cliff Cottage is a clean, charming and beautiful home but it wouldn't be worth a review if it wasn't for the exquisite surroundings and wonderful people that truly make this island special. Wallace met my wife and I at the airport and had my rental car ready to go. Phillip welcomed us to Gregory Town, waited patiently while we got groceries and showed us around. Andrew hung out and watched the sunset with us after he dropped off lobster tails the size of my forearm. Franco and Colette at the Sunset Lounge gave us advice on the island, provided cold beers, delicious meals, and even better conversation. Fabian let us borrow a map. This is the thing that I haven't read in reviews and it might be the best thing about this area...the people. The people of Gregory Town are some of the warmest, most sincere people I've ever met. By the second day I was picking up hitchhikers.
This isn't a 5 star resort, no one is going to hand you a fancy drink with an umbrella in it and ask if you need turn down service but I can guarantee that after one night on the deck you'll realize that you don't need any of those things because this cottage provides intangibles that you'll never find in a place like that.
I could drone on and on about the great things that we saw and felt on this trip but I wouldn't be able to do Eleuthera justice.
This is a place that must be experienced.
We can't wait to come back to the little yellow house on the cliff...
Bahamas Sea Cliff Cottage is my artist island home built in Bahamian vernacular style similar to Loyalist Cottages built by boat builders 200 years ago. We have a large deck to enjoy beautiful views of rugged tall cliffs with a million shades of blue Bahamian waters that are in dynamic change throughout the day. Enjoy the sea birds and rich marine life below. The island has much to discover both culturally and in its pristine natural beauty. The views from our home are the best....each day brings dynamic changing, light, wind and tide on the Exuma Sound. There are truly amazing sunsets. The house is brand new with simple elegant island inspired decor. Some of my Daniel Caldwell isalnd paintings are featured. You can bicycle, walk, or go by car to local beaches to surf , snorkel or collect shells and sea glass which is a local favorite . Engage in the friendly Bahamian community which is great fun. Relax and unplug from busy world. If you like to read, write , sketch, or paint watercolors..... its a fine spot for this. There are several local style restaraunts and grocery stores near by. There is live music nightly at different venues up and down the island. Find out who is hosting the live music when you arrive. You can rent surfboards or Kyaks, or go fish with a local guide. Several places in Gregory town provide this. In Gregory town check in with local fish dock in town for fresh fish , lobster stone crabs or conch. Conch salad is excellent ask who is making it that day. Go to Pam's Island Made gift shop visit with Pam and see the creative talent of local artisans Pam included. Ida's Delights for Ice Cream or for her Grits and Fish in the morning. Good Fuel for the day! . Don't miss 'Laughing Lizard' for healthy organic grown lunch or breakfast as well as WIFI also see Ann at the Glass Window art and garden center next door for more island crafts and fresh local grown produce.
See Ann at Mr Bone's liquor store for cold beer and spirits
