Large and breezy one bedroom with lovely ocean views.

Our large, one bedroom apartment is ideal for quiet, retired folks seeking the Caribbean sun and sea. We are located in the best neighborhood on the island (yes, we are biased!), simply known as Miss Bea, after the woman who formerly owned the entire area. The apartment is under our home, with it’s own driveway and private entrance.

You’ll enjoy the tropical breezes and lovely views of Buck Island from the apartment, but when the beach pulls at you, there are two from which to choose, both an easy 5-6 minutes walk away. Relax in the lounge chairs provided by the neighborhood association on Miss Bea Beach - chances are, you’ll have it to yourselves - or take the plunge for some lovely snorkeling. At Crescent Beach, the odds are good that you'll see a sea turtle.

Another five minutes walk will get you to the beach at Chenay Bay Resort where you can have a light lunch or dinner and a pina colada, and rent a stand up paddle board or kayak to explore the waters of nearby Green Cay island, a National Wildlife Refuge.

Speaking of walking, people come from other neighborhoods to walk our roads, especially “the loop” which offers beautiful water views east and west. If you prefer more of a workout, we have challenging hiking hills, also with great views.

The apartment has everything you’ll need to make it your home away from home, including Dish Satellite TV for the flat screen, and high-speed internet for your laptop. There is an a/c unit but, truthfully, you will probably never turn it on: the apartment stays cool and breezy most of the time. (Please note that there is a surcharge for use of the a/c.)

Linen, towels and beach towels are provided as are beach chairs and a cooler; iron and ironing board; rain umbrella, blow dryer. Just bring your bathing suit and toothbrush!

Enjoy seasonal tropical fruits from our fenced yard with a gated drive. Do some bird watching - there are many interesting birds to see right from the patio including kestrels that nest in the sugar mill behind our house.

Eat in with the fully equipped kitchen or dine out at numerous restaurants within a 5-10 minute drive. There’s a lovely 18 hole golf course 7 minutes away and you can also be in downtown Christiansted in under 10 for duty free shopping or hop aboard a boat to Buck Island.

Strictly non-smoking property inside and out.

About Robin Freeman

Andy and I are long-time residents of St. Croix and met here when we were both involved with the St. Croix Environmental Association. It was work about which we were both passionate and are proud to say we had major roles in the conservation of what is now Salt River National Park and The Nature Conservancy-owned Jacks and Isaacs Bays.

In 2001, Rosie became a part of our family and is an island girl through and through, having taken her first several day sailing trip when she was just 8 months old and earning her skin diving “fins” at the age of 9 on another boat excursion.

When we aren’t busy with work and school, we enjoy reading, gardening, traveling, kayaking, hiking, snorkeling and diving. We look forward to sharing our love of St. Croix and Caribbean living with you.

When Andy and I met, we each owned a home, and neither wanted to live in the other's. So we set about looking for our home, but couldn't find one that suited us both. One place we did agree on was Miss Bea neighborhood, so when this house became available, we jumped on it.

What makes this apartment unique

The views, the sugar mill practically in our back yard, the fruit trees, several beaches within walking distance, close to town yet in a quiet neighborhood.

Lovely, spacious, apartment in a quiet neighborhood. Use of the private beach is a definite plus

Robin the owner is friendly, responsive and informative. We felt so welcome when we walked into the apartment.... fresh tree-ripened oranges from the garden, rum cake and a bottle of rum greeted us! In addition, there was a 3-ring binder filled with useful information of things we need to know and recommendations on things to do on the island. (Thank you, Robin!) The apartment is more spacious than the pictures show, and is nicely decorated and well cared for. It's in the perfect location as a base for exploring the whole island, especially the East End. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Miss Bea Retreat, and definite plan to return. :-)

Another great stay

I just returned from another very nice stay at my home away from home in Saint Croix. The location is so convenient and I just love the view and the breeze. You also really could not ask for better hosts. The apartment is in fantastic condition, and there is really nothing else that I could ask for. It is also very affordable. I am not sure when my next trip to Saint Croix will be, but this property will again be my first choice when I return.

The Perfect Home Away from Home

First off, we have been coming to the Virgin Islands for over 8 years, and this was our first stay in St. Croix. Words can not describe the difference between this beautiful island and the other two. Like many, we choose this place for its close proximity to everything, including some of the best beaches on the island. The apartment is located in a safe, clean, quiet residential area on the east end. There's a sugar mill on the property next door (which you can not visit) but it's a nice, welcome sight as you're pulling up the road to the spacious, clean well ventilated apartment. Robin has filled it with all the amenities one would need at home, including a charcoal grill outside should you decide to grill your fish. There are fruit trees around you, starfruit, bread fruit, and even young mango tree... never mind the setting and view to Buck Island. Oh my!

Staying at Miss Bea's Retreat made an already memorable vacation, a better one.

Island life

We selected this spot at Green Cay to explore the east end of the island and experience neighborhood living on St Croix. It was the perfect spot for us to get a feel for island life. We were welcomed with a bottle of Rum and fruit from the on property trees. Robin and Andy were very welcoming and helpful with any of our questions. It was a great neighborhood for morning walks and close to beaches so you could feel sand under your feet. The location was very quiet, peaceful and secure a perfect place to get a feel for island life.

After you have your base tan, a trip to Buck Island is very worthwhile. The water is SO clear, the beach beautiful, and the snorkeling great. There's also a nice hike to the top of the island.

There are lots of good restaurants within just a 5-20 drive. We are lucky that we have such a variety of fine restaurants on our tiny island.

The east end offers kayaking and, on the right day, stand up paddling. This is the end of the island with the best snorkeling, as well with many spots from which to choose.

One of my favorite hikes is just 10 minutes away - to the top of Goat Hill, which affords breathtaking views of all of St. Croix, Buck Island, the sea. It's a great place to meditate.

If you decide to venture out more and explore the rest of the island, the possibilities are endless!
