About Kathryn Knedlhans
I began traveling to the Riviera Maya several years before buying and knew this was the place I wanted to own a home and retire. The beautify of the water, land, culture and people is what kept me coming back year after year. I love sharing my piece of paradise with family and friends and now you! If you have never traveled to this part of Mexico you will be back again!
Kathryn Knedlhans purchased this House in 2008
Why Kathryn Knedlhans chose Chemuyil
I chose this area mainly because I'm a beach bum and love the water. I can sit for hours watching the beautiful turquoise blue water wave after wave! There are so many adventures to experience while in the area depending on whether you enjoy land or sea there is something for everyone. I love the community of Chan Chemuyil with the vibrate colors of the casas, the two cenotes and most of all the people who live and vacation here. You will quickly feel part of the community, so always have some extra coffee or beer around!!
What makes this House unique
Casa de la Playa is completely furnished with Mexican handcrafted furniture. Both bedrooms have queen pillow-top mattresses along with an additional queen inflatable mattress. There are hammock hooks in the living room (great for watching movies) and on the front patio. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need. There is a 27' TV, DVD player with about 100 movies, Bluetooth/wireless speaker, a reading library, and various games and Wifi.

Lovely little house in a cool area
We loved our stay in this home. We had everything that we needed and easy access to the Colectivo and therefore could easily get to Tulum or Akumal. To get from Chan Chemuyil to Chemuyil it was a really neat walk past a cenote through the jungle. The birds in the jungle were amazing. We enjoyed Karaoke night on several Mondays at La Palapa and Leo's Pizza had really good food as well. Also there is a new seafood restaurant in Chemuyil that we enjoyed a couple of times. The kitchen was well appointed and there was everything that we needed to make good meals when we ate in. The bed was comfy and we enjoyed the back patio and pool very much. We made our lunch and enjoyed Xcacel Beach on several days. I would definitely recommend this lovely little home to friends and family! Oh and the Wifi worked great too!
Sweet house in a quiet neighborhood. Restaurants, groceries and cenote very close by.
The house was perfect for our family of four! (We have two boys 13 and 10) We were delighted to find a cenote half a block from the house where we spent time with locals. Our kids also loved the small pool in the back. The kitchen has everything you need to make your own meals if you wish. You can easily walk to the village of Chemuyil for dinner. Minor things that are good to know: there is road noise from the highway but you look into the jungle and hear the birds from the front porch, and being supplied only one towel per person for a ten day stay. You will need to plan to do laundry (not available at the house) or bring additional towels.
Everything we needed!
Great house, good location, everything we could possibly want available!
Plus the new pool was perfect for my 8 year old and morning swims/soaks.
Easy walk to the local cenote and beach, and village for dinners. Easy drive to everything else.
Perfect place for families!
I'm so glad you enjoyed your time in our community! I'm happy that your son was able to enjoy the pool!!
This house has all the necessary items for a week's stay in a fantastic location in walking distance of a nice little town, fantastic beach and two fun cenotes. The boogie boards, plenty of towels, bug spray, coolers, and all the needed kitchen appliances and items were greatly appreciated. There was even a sewing kit that my husband used to sew a button on his shorts. Great spot and nice owner!
The location is perfect for a quick trip into Tulum or many nearby attractions. The town Chemuyil has great local food and there are fancier restaurants within a couple minutes drive. The area feels very safe with friendly police at the end of the street and the neighborhood itself is fairly quiet and relaxed.
Great location and price
We loved the location for the types of things we wanted to do - snorkel, explore Mayan ruins, walk to/on the beach and in the neighborhood/village. The price was also very reasonable. The house was clean and stocked with most of what we needed. Kathryn, the owner, was very responsive to our questions and concerns via phone and email - both before, during, and after our stay.
The collectivo/bus stop is only a few blocks away for those who don't have a car. The neighbors are friendly. There are two cenotes for swimming in fresh water in the neighborhood. Xcacel beach and cenote is an easy half-mile walk from the neighborhood (across a divided highway).
Be sure to clarify what items you'll need to bring with you - for example, we were glad we had bar soap with us for the shower as none was provided. Those who are sensitive to noise will want to bring ear plugs, because loud music and sporting events from the neighboring village are sometimes heard late at night (until midnight or 1 am twice during our 10-night stay). Also, the next-door neighbors often talk loudly on their front patio (which can be heard inside this house) by 6:30 am and until late in the evening and they smoke there so we didn't use the front patio much.
Overall, we very much enjoyed our time here. Thanks, Kathryn!
All the little things were so helpful!!
Kathryn from the start was fantastic at communicating all the pre trip requirements. When we arrived everything was as described. The house was smaller than I expected but was quickly appreciative of the great location and all the "little things". For example, the hammocks inside were a blessed treat each night, boogie boards and snorkels. The other thing important is that because the owner actually lives there at some point they have the "right" type of day to day living equipment- not the cheap crap that comes with vacation only rentals. It was a well stocked house. Location was by far the best for the money and the local Pueblo is everything you hoped a Mayan/Mexican village could be. Thanks for providing me and my four kids with a safe and welcoming place. (I think 4 is the right amount of people- 5 was pushing it.)
