The cabin has two bedrooms, bathroom with shower, living room with pull-out couch and wood burning fireplace, family room with wood burning stove, and a fully-equipped kitchen. We have a DirecTV/TV/DVD player and a good collection of movies, as well as books and games for your entertainment at those times when you can drag yourself away from the water. We have a dock for your boat or for great fishing. We are located 25 miles north of Rice Lake and 20 minutes south of the famous tourist destination of Hayward, WI. There are 4-wheeler trails just down the road and two nearby boat landings. This is a cozy cabin for a family or couple getaway. We also have a pontoon for rent. Inquire if interested.

About Mary L McGaver
Ryan and I are both elementary school teachers who love the Northwoods lifestyle. We grew up in midwest Wisconsin and love to be near the water for relaxation and recreation. We want to offer that ability to everyone.
Mary L McGaver purchased this Cabin in 2013
Why Mary L McGaver chose Edgewater
When looking for a cabin, we wanted a lakeside, west-facing, charming, rustic, cozy cabin experience. We believe we found it. Our cabin is cedar sided, has knotty pine interior, and a large screened-in porch with a magnificent view of the lake. We wanted a recreational but quiet lake and we believe we found that in Big Lake Chetac.
What makes this Cabin unique
Within 25 minutes of Hayward and Rice Lake.

Great place to get away and relax!!!!
Cozy and lovely cabin!
The cabin was adorable! We especially loved the screen porch and attached deck. The cabin was very nicely decorated and comfortable. It included everything that we needed to enjoy our stay. Birchwood is a wonderful town with very friendly people that were more than happy to recommend wonderful places to eat and sites to visit. We highly recommend this cabin!
Great place to stay
Second time stayed. Hope we can get back
Thank you Dave! We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We hope to see you again very soon.
Relaxing up north experience - great setting
The things that can be controlled were excellent: the cabin was in great shape and well stocked, the firewood was plentiful and the pictures represented the property well. The bugs are up to nature and unfortunately were bad the week we were there - couldn't be helped.
The lake was great and my kids lived the sand bar. The fishing was great for panfish, even right off the dock. The pontoon was good, small motor, but sufficient. It would have been nice to have an anchor to fish a little easier.
Very nice fire pit and screened in porch when the bugs got too bad.
Nice bar/restaurants in the lake - Sportsman's was great and Chit-Chat had a nice fish fry.
Cabin just as expected- a wonderful week in the Northwoods
My wife & I, along with our 2 senior Corgis, spent a very relaxing midsummer week on Lake Chetac.
Cabin: Perfect size- Not too big for the two of us yet just big enough for one glorious night when both of our adult children, a spouse and 2 additional dogs joined us. A nice combo of modern and rustic: No internet or dishwasher, but a window AC and newly installed Direct TV. The big screen porch was a godsend as a very wet spring and summer had set the table for mosquito madness. We opened each day with coffee and tea on it, and just before bed enjoyed the cooling night breeze while being serenaded by loons. Beds were not luxurious but were comfortable. Kitchen appliances were new & worked great. Bathroom was small but functional. The cabin & grounds were nicely decorated.
Lake Chetac: I had fished on the lake before, so had an idea of what I was getting into. Fished for panfish with excellent results... with some of the best fishing within 100 yards of the dock! This is not a "clear" swimming lake with sandy beaches, and swimming from the dock would not have been pleasant. That said, we did venture out to the big sand bar off a point mid-lake for swimming fun. Eagles, Ospreys, and loons were abundant. I brought my own fishing boat, but we did use the pontoon for 1 day when we had all the kids there, and it worked very well.
Location: The cabin is a good 10-15 minute drive from the nearest town of Birchwood, and driving into town you in the evening almost guarantees you'll see deer (too many deer!) The best place to stop in for supplies, ice cream and free WiFi is Ed's Pitstop. We also visited several businesses during the week, including the marina, bait shop, grocery store and pizza den. The cabin is also only 15 minutes from my all time favorite Northwoods restaurant, Pine Ridge on Lake Sissabagama. Their fish fry on Friday and Sunday nights is something you'll not forget!
Owners: Mary answered all e-mails promptly and was generous with information. I had several questions answered before we left, which made packing a breeze. You could tell she really wanted her guests to have a good time.
Final recommendation- yes, I certainly would consider renting this cabin again!
Great place, great experience!
Mary's cabin is really warm and welcoming, we all felt right at home as soon as we walked in and certainly felt like we were about to enjoy a "true Northwoods experience!" Great view of the lake from the deck, we certainly enjoyed grilling dinner, watching the sunset and then heading down by the lake for a fire or playing games in the screened porch to get away from the bugs. Lake Chetac is beautiful (fishing was pretty good) and the pontoon boat definitely added to the wonderful experience we had here, highly recommended!
As a side note, mice were a bit of a pain (four caught over the three days) due to the weather this year (according to the locals we chatted up) but the cabin is set up with traps in the kitchen so just be aware that you might have to take care of a few little critters while you're there.
All the best, guys, thanks for a great stay!
