Cozy and air conditioned 100 year old home close to Zion National Park and Gooseberry Mesa! Built in 1915, yet updated in 2015, this 2300 square foot home sits on a quiet half-acre property with nice grass to run in, pecan trees for shade and room for your gear and kids to play. The home includes five total bedrooms: three bedrooms have queen beds, two bedrooms have two twin beds. In total, the home sleeps ten people in beds, and we have a queen air mattress if needed, as well as a toddler cot and pack n play.
There are two updated bathrooms, one upstairs and one down. The upstairs bath includes a shower/bathtub, double sink, and a lot of storage. The downstairs bathroom has a shower, double sink, and vanity. Both bathrooms are stand alone, meaning you do not have to go through a bedroom to get to the bathroom, which is nice if you are sharing the home with friends.
There is a comfortable great room downstairs with sofa/love seat and TV. The home includes free WiFi access so you can stay connected during your visit. There is a table in the kitchen for eating and another table in the spacious front room/dining room. This home is perfect for a large groups including families, bikers or hikers needing a place to crash after a day of exploring. We have hosted many large groups of friends coming to explore Southern Utah. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, cups, pots and pans, coffee maker, microwave, waffle maker, kitchen supplies, a new stove and oven, and a great spice rack for cooking! We have a barbecue grill as well.
The yard is amazing. There is grass everywhere except the circular driveway. Kids can run and play with plenty of room. We have volleyball nets/balls/ lacrosse sticks if you want to toss a ball, and a pickle ball equipment(set of 4) for the courts 2 blocks away. There are pecan trees, pomegranate trees, and a cherry and apricot tree on the property. Most of the trees bear fruit in late August.
The home includes a washer and dryer in the mudroom inside the backdoor, making it convenient to keep up on laundry. We have laundry soap for your use.
There is a new city park for kids just a block from the home. In the summer, it has water features, including a splash pad with water spouts for kids to run through. It also has basketball hoops and a playground. Back at the home there are plenty of books, games and puzzles for kids to use while they are there.
The city pool in Hurricane opens May 15th and stays open through Labor Day weekend. It is a very nice outdoor pool with a snack bar.
Southern Utah is a bike lovers paradise! Bike out of the driveway, or take a quick drive to Gooseberry, JEM, or any of the other trails that are nearby (15 minutes from our home). The views from these world class bike trails are stunning and the weather is amazing, especially in the spring and fall, making it especially enjoyable for all day rides. We have great storage for your bikes in a little building behind the house. Over the Edge bike shop is literally one block from the home, so you can get riding tips or trail advice or get things fixed quickly and easily by knowledgeable experts of this area.
There are 5 bikes in the little house in back (two adult bikes and three kids' bikes); we just ask that you fill the tires with air before riding. You can bike out of the driveway and have plenty of riding to do with beautiful views.
The property includes plenty of parking on a large circular driveway with carport.Bring your 4 wheelers, bring your boats, explore Sand Hollow and Quail Creek.
There are some parades that come through town, and we think it is fun, but you may think it is noisy. Just remember the dates July 4th, July 24th, and then Peach Days over labor day weekend. Each of these celebrations includes a fun local parade. They don't last long. People just set their chairs on the front lawn, and the parade goes by.
This home is in a prime location. Zion National Park is a scenic twenty five minute drive away; Gooseberry Mesa is fifteen minutes east for world class mountain biking. Sand Hollow is fifteen minutes to the west and is a fun place to play at the beach and swim and water ski. Sand Hollow is also accessible through the back route through the Hurricane fields and makes for a fun bike ride from the house. Snow Canyon State Park just outside of St. George offers hiking and rock climbing and more stunning views. It is a hidden gem, well worth exploring and is less crowded than Zion. Bryce Canyon National Park is less than two-and-a-half hours away and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is about a two-and-a-half hour drive. Las Vegas is only a two-hour drive from Hurricane. In short, this is a prime location to explore the scenic wonders of southern Utah and northern Arizona.
There is so much to do and see. Make this comfortable and large home your home away from home while you enjoy beautiful southern Utah.
I'm a city girl who grew up in Michigan but married a country boy from Hurricane. His love of this area has been contagious and I fell in love too. Hiking Zion National Park is one of our favorite pass times. We love the red rocks, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and incredible biking that is available in Southern Utah.
Beth Reeve purchased this house in 1915
This property has been in my husband's family for 100 years. Since doing some remodeling and updating, we decided it would be fun to share it with others since we can't use it year round. It is a great location and is close to many beautiful hiking and biking trails in southern Utah. We think you will see it as a little slice of heaven.
My husband's great-grandparents built this home in 1915. Before building it, they lived in the little 'home' behind the house. That is where my husband's father was born in 1915. You won't believe it when you see it, but it's true. So his grandparents opened up the Hurricane Hotel and ran it as a bed and breakfast for many years. Their bedroom was located where the current upstairs bathroom is now. Guests would come from all over the U.S. and world, to rent a room in the hotel. His grandmother would cook meals for all the guests and made expert use of the butler kitchen. It's an amazing piece of history, and we want to share it with others who would appreciate the quaint charm that this location has to offer.
This home is so close to many beautiful outdoor recreations sites, but is a quite haven to come home to at the end of a day exploring.
Thank you for sharing your family's home and a little bit of history with us. We had a wonderful week here exploring on foot or bike. Thank goodness for the bikes. A was a happy boy on two wheels and loved Gooseberry Mesa!
Hoping to come back in a couple of years when we can go up Angels Landing all 4 of us.
There were 8 of us, 4 adults and 4 children. Loads of space in a quaint little town. The bikes were a big hit for the children and I liked cracking a few pecans falling from massive pecan trees providing shade. Lovely appointed home with comfortable beds and a stocked kitchen. Neat old home with character and history. Glad we came.
We had a wonderful time and great stay at this property. It was great for our young family and friends. There was plenty of room to spread out. Our kids loved all the toys and play equipment for outdoors.
We really enjoyed the house! It has so much character with the high ceilings, hard wood floors and railings, and even an old butlers pantry. It was set up great for families with young kids, huge backyard to play in, board games, and a rack of children's books. Easy access to Zion National Park and right in the middle of Hurricane.
Look no further! This darling home was the best place to stay for our family and we definitely recommend it to anyone looking to visit Southern Utah! It is centrally located to so many great sights in Southern Utah. (However, our kids did not want to even leave the house because it had everything they wanted!) The house is filled with so many fun games, sports balls, puzzles, and books for the kids. We also loved riding the bikes around the quaint neighborhood and checking out the parks. The house has so much charm, with all of the modern amenities we wanted. We will definitely be staying here again! Thank you, Beth and family!
The home was beautiful and had everything we needed. Our kids enjoyed playing in the big yard and with all toys that were provided. The house was very kid friendly. The house was big enough for six adults and 4 small kids/toddlers. Look forward to staying here again soon. Thank you Beth for letting us stay in your wonderful home.
We would recommend this lovely home with high ceilings, wonderful light streaming in surrounded by green, green grass, quiet, convenient, spacious, only 25 minutes from Zion. Beth Reeves was very helpful and available.
Would stay here again.
Charming 100 year old home. The former "Hurricane Hotel" from 1919 to 1970, hosted guests from all over the world and is now open again for your enjoyment. Hurricane is a perfect gateway to Zion National Park, which is just 25 minutes away. Don't miss out on exploring one of America's most amazing National Parks. Photographers and artists come and stay for days to capture the perfect lighting and hikers and bikers love to explore this scenic wonder. For bike enthusiasts, world class biking is also available at Gooseberry Mesa, only 15 minutes east of Hurricane on Highway 59. In fact, Hurricane is a prime destination for mountain biking with the JEM trail, Little Creek Mountain, and Gooseberry Mesa among the more well known trails within convenient distance from this home.
The moderate southern Utah temperatures make hiking and biking in the winter months ideal.
Sand Hollow Reservoir is only 10 miles from our home, and is a fun place to swim, cliff jump, kayak and water ski. There are also many 4 wheeler trails easily accessible from our home, with ATV rental companies just a few blocks away. Beautiful views await, with a variety of environments to encounter--from rocky ATV roads to coral-pink sand dunes.
We have some bikes at the house that guests are welcome to use; we just ask that you pump up the tires and take care of the bikes.
The home includes a fully equipped kitchen with coffee maker so eating in is always an option. If you want to dine out, there are good restaurants close by to choose from. The Main Street Cafe is a short walk away. Lupita's in Hurricane has good Mexican food, and there are yummy restaurants in Springdale just outside of Zion: The Bit 'n Spur has vegetarian options and fresh Mex, while the Spotted Dog is a bit more fancy but the almond crusted lake trout can't be beat. Flying Monkey is a good family restaurant which features fresh oven fired pizza. Speaking of pizza, back in Hurricane there is an outdoor oven fired pizza stand (The Pizza Wagon) off of State Street (just west of Ace Hardware) that has really good pizza, at around $9/pie. River Rock Roasting, just 5 minutes away in La Verkin, has great coffee, pastries, and quiche.
Our home is 100 years old, so it is a little quirky but we love it. It is not fancy, but it's functional, with a lot of charm. It has a great front porch to sit and watch the sunset or watch the 4th of July parade, or the Pioneer Day parade on July 24th. It has a great room to gather and watch TV if you desire. There are 5 bedrooms, 3 upstairs with beds for six, and 2 downstairs with two queen beds that can sleep 4.
The two bathrooms are newly remodeled with lots of room for storage. We provide towels, soap, toilet paper, and you provide the rest. (Shampoo, etc.)
We have extra blankets and sheets on hand. The kitchen is stocked with dishes/glasses/pots and pans and a great spice rack for cooking. There is a dishwasher in the kitchen and washer and dryer in the mudroom.
There is so much to see and do here. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is 2.5 hours from our home. Lake Powel, Bryce Canyon, Cedar City, St. George, Snow Canyon State Park (with biking and hiking trails) Sand Hollow, and Quail Creek Reservoir are all very close. There is a brand new Rec center in Washington City (20 min) with a great pool, basketball court, and rock climbing wall. One block from the home in Hurricane there is a park with water features and splash pads. It is perfect for smaller kids and includes basketball courts and a playground as well.
This home features beautiful mountain views and is a cozy place to retreat to when you are worn out from a day's adventures!
