Santa Barbara House Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrms, 1 open loft bedrm, 2 bathrooms, 4 decks, garden, etc.

Breathtaking views of ocean, islands, mountains and city from this magical three-story redwood home at the end of a cul-de-sac on 1.38 acres! Walls of glass & 4 decks let you enjoy the spectacular views from sunrise to sunset. Offering privacy in a tranquil mountain setting both dramatic and romantic, this 2,400 sq ft. Home is filled with light. Soaring 25’ wood ceilings, an open floor plan, faux walls by vVvencio, wooden floors, hand-painted tiles and a balinese fireplace mantel are a few extras that make this home unique. This is the home of an artist and writer and is elegantly furnished with art from around the world. Here is an opportunity to stay on top of the world, only 20 minutes from state street, 25 minutes to the beach and 30 minutes to the famed santa ynez wine country. Quail, wild pigeons, soaring hawks and hummingbirds make this home a bird watcher’s paradise. Surrounding roads are a mecca for hiking and bicycling. This area was sacred to the Chumash indians. The California state monument, the Chumash cave known as 'painted cave' famous for its petroglyphs, was once owned by my husband's family and is a short walk away. Fishing, boating and nature cruises are available at Cachuma Lake, 20 minutes to the east. Santa Ynez is wine tasting country and only 30 minutes away. Nearby historic cold springs tavern offers excellent cuisine and Sunday afternoon concerts.

Note: the top level of the home, a loft open to the floors below, has a double futon and can function as a third bedroom. The second bedroom has a queen size bed and the master bedroom has two twin beds. The homeowners live in a separate apartment with a private entrance on the property--Homestay housing. You won’t know they are there unless you need them. We will be available always by phone or email and generally in person; however, we respect the privacy of guests and will be invisible unless otherwise desired. I am happy to extend check-in and check-out times if there are no other guests booked for the dates you request. We have a satellite internet connection; consequently we are unable to download or upload videos but all regular use of the internet is fine. We have a video library for your use.

*if you want to bring a pet, please ask first. Thank you.

Lovely Getaway for anyone!

  • 5 of 5

Our little family (husband, toddler and dog) stayed at this lovely home over New Year's and loved every minute. We arrived late at night with only the lights of Santa Barbara's coast twinkling below us and when we walked into the home and saw where we'd be for the next 5 days - you couldn't wipe the smiles off of our face. The home is stunning. Nothing about it feels like a vacation rental - it feels like a beautiful, elegant home with so many personal touches and attention to detail that you'd want to hire Josie to come decorate your own home!

I think we watched sunrise each morning just perched in bed in the master suite watching the colors change in the sky. The living area was inviting and comfortable with comfortable couches and cushions. The dining area was excellent for all of our meals. We had another couple join us for a few days with their baby and dog and sitting together eating off of the beautiful china (yes, there was even china for us to use for our special NYE dinner) felt so special. The kitchen had everything we needed to make gourmet meals.

Josie was just an email away if we needed anything and made sure to send us a note during our stay to see how we were doing. In short, do yourself a favor and book this lovely home. It was truly a fantastic getaway for us!

View of the Gods!

  • 5 of 5

Though just a brief, getaway 2 night stay in our own community, we were enchanted w/our booking in the mountains overlooking the Santa Barbara Coast. The house located in the Painted Cave Community, which actually has some ancient cave paintings nearby, welcomed us with an ambiance that both embraced us with its' ethnic & eclectic art & furniture as well with a more than comfortable and homey experience. The views of the coast in both the early hours of the day, to sunset & finally evening with the coastal lights were something we will hold forever in our memories. Lovely hosts, who had left no stone unturned to provide us with an impeccably clean home and fully equipped kitchen. We were only bummed that our stay was so short. We would opt to stay here again in a heartbeat!

Cosmic! Truly a awesome experience. Exquisite location and the house itself WONDERFUL.

  • 5 of 5

I have traveled a great deal in my life. I have visited many knock out locations in the United States. I also have sought out the unique power spots of the earth with big-big international travel over the past two decades. This spot will stay with me for a LONG time. I hope to return in the not too distant future. The actual location is perched on top of a hill with close to 360 degree views of Santa Barbara below. Sitting on the abundant decks and watching the ebb and flow of the light, the sun moving across the sky, the fog and or rain I felt as if I was in a Maxfield Parrish painting. This spot is a rare treat!

The house itself has a totally unique artistic décor with aesthetics I found compelling. The owner lists herself as an artist and this house and its furnishings and appointments would be among her creations. The amenities were perfect, comfortable bed, a fully stocked kitchen, great showers—we felt fully nurtured in every way.

I rarely give 5 stars—as I have standards and experience but this place deserves it.

Don't pass this one by.

Sooo beautiful. It is a sanctuary. I slept like a baby there. The interior design is enough reason to stay there. It is lovely, interesting and oh so comfortable. I felt as if I'd entered into a place very different from home, a place where one goes to be inspired. The view is panoramic and breath taking. I spent lots of time sitting on the deck drinking tea and staring at the wonder of it all. We ate our meals outside as much as we could. Clearly the owners are detail people. The place is perfectly clean, organized and comfortable. Nothing was missing. I wish I could live there forever!

Wonderful stay!!

  • 5 of 5

The house was everything that I could have asked for and more. Beautifully furnished, and immaculately clean, with a wonderful energy! The views were spectacular, and for me the peace and beauty of the area was far superior to staying directly in Santa Barbara city, yet close enough to do all that I wanted. Josie was easy to communicate with and a gracious host. I recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a great vacation rental!

Fabulous in Every Way!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful time in Josie's home. Everything was exactly as described plus even more beautiful than the photos. The home has tremendous charm and is spotless. Josie was the best host, eager to help us with advice for how to spend our time in Santa Barbara. Of all our vacation rentals, this was beyond far the best. I could not recommend this home more. It is one of a kind!
