About Margaret

Hank and Margaret have been taking care of travelers for ten years now. With a clear understanding of 'southern hospitality' we want to make you feel at home as quick as a wink. Both of us are ordained ministers, we have a house church right here on the premises. Don't worry - you won't notice - nor will it spoil your privacy. Now for the grand kids, they won't bother you except you may see the littlest one and Papa headed to the barn to feed the goats and chickens and gather the eggs. Seems like being a grand parent became natural in just a few short days of the first one's arrival! Being as we keep them most days, you can enjoy the grand kids too at times.

Why Margaret chose Tifton

When we remodeled ten years ago, we made a nice pond house for fish fries, children's parties, etc. Then the kids all scooted away to college and careers leaving us with not just an empty house, but an empty pond house too! It is just to peaceful and comffy to let it sit idle so we decided to offer it to others to enjoy. Our guests are always glad they find us. You will be glad too.

What makes this cabin unique

If it's peace and quiet you are after, look no farther. The swing under the trees is pretty much a no brainer. Read a book, feed a goat your leftovers, pet a spoiled cat, catch a fish, or just let the breeze blow through your hair. This is the place for you. We just couldn't live in town any longer!

Beautiful setting’

  • 4 of 5

Interesting cabin in a beautiful setting with pond and even baby goats! A nice place to relax. Our only suggestion would be to provide some softer lighting options. Highly recommended for nature lovers!

Relaxing and Welcoming

  • 5 of 5

We spent two nights at the Shalom House on our way from South West Florida up to North Carolina - and were so glad we chose to stop here. Margaret and Hank were great hosts - and welcomed us into their house on Sunday morning so that we could worship with them. The accommodation was comfortable and clean. We enjoyed seeing the goats - our dogs didn't know what to make of them ! We felt relaxed and ready to continue our journey after our two night stay - and would definitely consider doing this again. We went into Tifton and had a great meal at '51 and Main', other than that we just relaxed and enjoyed the Shalom House.

Nice place to stay in South GA

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable cabin by the pond. My boyfriend and I spent the weekend here while visiting South GA for the air show at Moody AFB. The cabin was cozy and had everything we needed, although we didn't do any cooking there and didn't have much time to spend enjoying the outside amenities. Owners are responsive and helpful. Would recommend to anyone needing lodging in the area.

Tranquil and unplugged

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a free weekend with no kids and wanted a relaxing, short get away out of the city and this was prefect. The cabin is gorgeous and so quiet. Nothing better than a glass of wine sitting on the dock and listening to nothing more than the chickens and goats nearby. It was the perfect few days with limited (not absent, just in and out) cell phone and internet to absorb a bit of an escape of the daily hustle and bustle. We went for a walk around downtown, enjoyed some local live music nd great food at The Bistro at 219 as well as some great consignment and antique shops where there are some great finds. The property owners are welcoming and despite them living in the house on the same property we never saw or heard them other than on initial arrival and final departure from the cabin. I was able to cook most meals there after a quick trip to the nearby grocery store. I had to buy a few staples in order to cook (spices, oil, etc) since the things in the cabin are what previous guests left behind but I will know what to bring on our next trip to the cabin because we will be back for sure! Oh, and be prepared to catch some big cat fish out of the pond!

Owner's Response: Thanks guys! I think we have a great downtown. Just remember while planning your trip that Mondays are many of the local owner's days to recoup from the weekend. But for a small town I think it's a nice place. As to internet and wifi coming in and out - what can I say. We are totally dependant on the services that are available to us: satellite tv and internet. But we never fuss at a passing storm that temporarily blocks a satellite signal. That's good times to stay in touch with each other. Ever lose touch with a person who is close to you because of modern technology? And by close - I mean they're sitting in the chair NEXT to you on THEIR PHONES! Our place is the place to relax, unwind, and get back in touch with our favorite someones. We've got what you need - short of your favorite spices. We're looking forward to your return!

Great place to relax and unwind!!

We had a very lovely one night stay at Margaret's cabin. Everything we needed. We so enjoyed visiting with the goats and chickens. Also feeding the catfish and watching the ducks in the pond. Hope to see you again sometime. Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise!

Owner's Response: We can't imagine living in town amidst hustle and bustle and city sounds with no room to spread out! Glad we could share a little of the blessings that we have with such nice folks. Come again.
