Arcata is located on Humboldt Bay just 7 miles north of Eureka, 10 minutes to beaches, and less than an hour's drive to State and National Redwood Parks, home to the tallest trees in the world.

Enjoy lush redwood groves, miles of pristine coastline, a famous wildlife refuge and a lively town square in a progressive and colorful city. Arcata, which is located between scenic Humboldt Bay and a forested hillside, is a popular destination for visitors who come to experience the tallest trees in the world, enjoy rafting down swift flowing rivers, walk along un-crowded beaches and attend events on the town square, including the Kinetic Sculpture Race, the Oyster Festival, Pastels On The Plaza, the North Country Fair, Arts Alive and the Farmers Market (Saturdays only).

PARKSIDE COTTAGE is a free standing, fully detached one bedroom unit. The setting is quiet due to traffic being restricted to mostly neighborhood vehicles because of a park which is located at the end of the street.

Description of Cottage
This craftsman-inspired cottage is in a quiet neighborhood adjacent to Stewart Park and is only a ten minute walk to the city center or to the Humboldt State University campus. The cottage interior is comfortable and well appointed, with open floor plan which includes a living, dining and kitchen area. The kitchen is fully equipped with a range, microwave and a refrigerator. The tiled bathroom features a tub/shower combination. The living room sofa makes into a bed which can sleep either one additional adult or two children. Beautiful maple floors, hand woven carpets, a leather sofa bed, an original Morris style chair, historic photography and original works of art add warm ambiance to the main living area.

A door separates the bedroom from the living area which allows privacy for guests using the sofa bed. Guests will be able to enjoy a good nights sleep on the queen sized bed which features a Sterns and Foster ultra-plush pillow top mattress, down pillows and fine linens. Paintings by the owner, an accomplished artist, enhance the bedroom
decor.

Great place to stay in Arcata

This was my first time to the area, visiting a niece on a short-term assignment north of Arcata. I was so happy to find this cottage! Perfect location, walking distance to the downtown area. It was nice and quiet, and the bed was super comfortable. My niece slept on the pull out, which has a brand new mattress, she said that was comfortable as well. The cottage was very clean, and check in and check out was simple. I highly recommend this to anyone visiting the area!

We had a great stay. Love this location for convenience to Cal Poly and downtown Arcata. Apartment was spotless and beautifully appointed. It was very comfortable and quiet. My only suggestion for improvement is to replace the sleeper sofa mattress (the mattress was so uncomfortable my son ended up folding it back up and sleeping on the sofa instead.). Highly recommend for 2 people.

Everything about this little place was just perfect! It has everything you need to be comfortable. Perfect for 1-2 people. The nieghborhood is nice and quiet, the hosts were in communication ahead of time to make sure I had what I needed. I work virtually and needed to work for part of my stay, so they tested the internet to make sure I could attend my virtual meetings. It worked perfectly! I plan to stay again on my next trip to Arcata!

We couldn't have been happier with this home-away-from-home cottage in Arcata. It was perfect for the two of us, and roomier than we expected from the photos. Jim and Christine thought through every detail, and they're phenomenal hosts to boot. The serene location made for a great night's rest, and yet everything we needed was within walking distance. We have lived in Arcata since 1978, which is a testament to how much we enjoy this area. Humboldt County is a unique area which includes mountains, rivers, lagoons, forests, beaches and of course the Pacific Ocean. Because of so much diversity, we are able to enjoy many different species of birds, wildlife, trees, fungi, etc. Christine enjoys visiting the Arcata Marsh, which attracts native birds as well as migrating birds. Jim enjoys hunting for highly prized edible mushrooms, which grow in abundance here. We both enjoy bicycle riding, especially going up into the community forests on our mountain bikes. Riding our road bikes to other communities is another favorite activity. Preparing tasty meals is a passion for us and fortunately we have access to an abundance of fresh ingredients, especially when the farmer’s market on the Plaza is happening.

Why they chose this property

We purchased a vacant lot in a newly developed subdivision in 1986. What was unique about this subdivision is that the land it was created from was originally used as a playground/ball field for the public school that it is adjacent to. Because of earthquake safety, the school had to be relocated and the property, including the structure that was used as a school, was sold to private developers. Originally, these investors wanted to develop a medium density multi-unit subdivision without a park. The surrounding neighbors protested vehemently and ultimately the subdivision was reduced down from 39 living units to just 17, which also included a 1.25 acre park. Only 3 of the 17 building lots were designated for a supplemental living unit, ours being one of the 3. The other unique feature about our subdivision is that because it is surrounded by historical homes, we were required to build a structure that had historical architecture. This wasn’t a concern for us because we wanted to build a Craftsman style home anyway, which we did. The end result of all of our efforts (community members and neighbors) is that we created a highly desirable area in which to live and it now serves as one of the “jewel” neighborhoods of Arcata. We moved into our cottage in 1987 and lived there until our house next door was completed. What we offer you is a charming place to stay in a quiet, secure neighborhood conveniently located in Arcata.

What makes this property unique

Enjoy staying in a comfortable cottage in a desirable neighborhood. Because of the park, which is only a short distance away, we live on a dead end street, so consequently there is little traffic noise.
