Man O War Cay is a quiet special place compared to the tourist laden Guana, Elbow, and Marsh. The locals are friendly mostly the descendants of Loyalists from the revolutionary war. Perfect for boaters, fisherman, and those that want to really get away from it all.
Lookout house is a lovely Bahamian style house situated on an elevated lot with beautiful views of the Sea of Abaco.
At the end of the day you can experience the amazing Abaco sunset.
The house comfortably accommodates 4 with two bedrooms and one bathroom.
The kitchen is equipped with all you will need to cook and serve meals if that is what you like to do. There is a charcoal grill outside for a BBQ. If you don't want to cook, there is a nice restaurant at the marina, or several days a week some local ladies have home made "take away" dinners. Very delicious . Dates and Menu's posted on the town bulletin board.
The house is equipped with cable TV, internet, FM radio, VHF radio and a place to plug in your iPod or tablet for music.
There is a dock for your use to tie up your boat or there is a boat rental on MOW. Also a good place to jump in the crystal clear water and go for a swim, (biggest swimming pool in the whole world) two swim ladders to get back out.
The house has a washer/dryer outside for your use if needed.
The deck wraps around the house so you can find a place to just sit in the sun or be in the shade any time of the day. Table and chairs out on the deck too if you want to eat al fresco.
The rate includes pick and return to the ferry, or Pilot service through the "Erie Canal" for your boat and transport of you and luggage from dock to "Lookout".
if you need more room for a couple of extra guests, the Captain's Cottage down by the dock is our listing. You can see that by searching 691335.
Man o War remains a beautiful, quiet island with unforgettable blue waters and sunsets !
Both of which could be well taken advantage of from "Lookout"! It is a charming house with tasteful island flair situated on a bluff just outside of town. Great location!
All of the ammenities of home with relaxation built right in. After visiting for 4 years in a row , but having not been back in 22 years we still felt very much at home ! The residents and visitors are so friendly. "Lookout" we'll be back!
My family enjoyed spending a week in Man O' War Cay at "Lookout" the week following Christmas. The name corresponds with the awesome view of the harbor where having a dock was great! We rented a golf cart ($200 a week from Albury GC rentals) and a boat(from Island Marine on Parrot Key near Elbow Key) to get around. The people were extremely kind and the island has a great local atmosphere. The beaches are really cool, especially the "Low Point," which our family calls the "Narrows" (there is a beach on both the Sea of Abaco and the Atlantic Ocean side right across from each other). (Also a perfect place to watch the sunset!!) We spent a day snorkeling and ate at the Abaco Inn (located on Elbow Key). We went to Nippers (Great Guana Cay) and the food was good and the beach was beautiful but the atmosphere is not necessarily appropriate for children after 4pm. For scuba diving, we rented gear from Froggies in Hope Town (located on Elbow Key) and you could also rent/ learn from Mike at DiveTime (located on MOW). The caretakers of "Lookout" were super nice and always made sure we had what we needed! The listing description was very accurate, however this property does NOT have air conditioning. Ventilation was not a problem for us though because of the many windows and fans. The property was well- maintained and clean, however could use some updates. For groceries, we went to both Man O' War Grocery and Maxwell's in Marsh Harbor. MOW Grocery was clean and well-stocked, however the prices are pretty high so if you plan to do major shopping-- go to a store in Marsh Harbor prior to coming over to MOW. Both the Hibiscus Cafe and Dock and Dine on MOW were yummy and had good prices. We also enjoyed going to Dips and Sips (an ice cream booth open 12:30pm-3:30pm and 7-9pm and located next to the Hibiscus Cafe) at night. It was cool because it was a local hangout! Definitely a good place to stay when visiting the Bahamas! We will definitely be back next year.
Every morning I opened my eyes and looked out over the beautiful sea of Abaco. The sunsets from the porch during supper were interrupted by my obsessive need to take a picture every few minutes because it just kept getting prettier. The house is very nicely done inside and out and the kitchen had everything you would need to cook. Loved this place!
