Overview

About the property

Man O War Cay is a quiet special place compared to the tourist laden Guana, Elbow, and Marsh. The locals are friendly mostly the descendants of Loyalists from the revolutionary war. Perfect for boaters, fisherman, and those that want to really get away from it all.

Lookout house is a lovely Bahamian style house situated on an elevated lot with beautiful views of the Sea of Abaco.

At the end of the day you can experience the amazing Abaco sunset.

The house comfortably accommodates 4 with two bedrooms and one bathroom.

The kitchen is equipped with all you will need to cook and serve meals if that is what you like to do. There is a charcoal grill outside for a BBQ. If you don't want to cook, there is a nice restaurant at the marina, or several days a week some local ladies have home made "take away" dinners. Very delicious . Dates and Menu's posted on the town bulletin board.

The house is equipped with cable TV, internet, FM radio, VHF radio and a place to plug in your iPod or tablet for music.

There is a dock for your use to tie up your boat or there is a boat rental on MOW. Also a good place to jump in the crystal clear water and go for a swim, (biggest swimming pool in the whole world) two swim ladders to get back out.

The house has a washer/dryer outside for your use if needed.

The deck wraps around the house so you can find a place to just sit in the sun or be in the shade any time of the day. Table and chairs out on the deck too if you want to eat al fresco.

The rate includes pick and return to the ferry, or Pilot service through the "Erie Canal" for your boat and transport of you and luggage from dock to "Lookout".

if you need more room for a couple of extra guests, the Captain's Cottage down by the dock is our listing. You can see that by searching 691335.

Great property in Man O War, Abacos

  • 5 of 5

I almost hate to write a good review because I don't want the rest of the world to find this little piece of paradise. Fortunately it is a little hard to get to (but worth the effort.)

This little island is tucked away on the outer edge of the Bahamas. The small close knit community of families (who have inhabited this island for generations) are friendly and inquisitive. The houses are quaint with white picket fences and an abundance of flowers and palm trees in the gardens. It has that laid back, quiet and remote island feel that we craved. The conservative, church going people of Man O War made it that much more special. It's like we stepped back in time 50 years. Sunday is a day of rest. No stores or restaurants are open. Alcohol is not sold on the island. The local ladies bake cakes and pies and sell them in the grocery store. Life as it should be....

"Lookout" sat high on a hill with splendid views of the Sea of Abacos giving us unbelievable sunsets every night.

The house was comfortable and had lot of large windows and sliding doors to let the tropical breezes cool us off when we were in the house during the evenings. It was pretty humid for April and an extra couple of floor fans would have been good to have but we were good overall with the house as is. If you absolutely must have AC this is not the place for you.

The kitchen was stocked with a good assortment of dishes for cooking. The grocery store was a short walk down the road (everything on the island is a short walk). The two restaurants are fantastic, much much better than I expected, but dining out gets expensive and it was nice to have a kitchen to cook in.

The bed was comfortable and the master bedroom also had those same views of the sea.

We had plenty of towels, a good shower and there was a washer and dryer to run a load of clothes midweek.

We enjoyed our stay and hope to be back again.

Owner's Response: So glad that the O' Neill's had a wonderful experience. We are going to get some extra fans for the house ASAP. And we always are happy to have return visitors!!!

Imagine....

The only thing disappointing about being on Man O War and staying at "Lookout" was that we had to leave! Yes, leave the lovely island and our wonderful vacation home!! Sunset after sunset we could never get enough!! Great boat we rented from Water Ways, freshly caught fish and lobsters, fresh eggs from our neighbors, fresh bread from our caretaker, Kalik and cocktails!

Wonderfully relaxing for our family!

  • 5 of 5

Our Man-O-War stay was wonderful! Thanks to Karen and caretakers Keith and Lily for such great hospitality. The house was well-appointed and comfortable for our family of four. Our sons loved playing on the porch and chasing lizards. My husband and I loved the tranquility of the porch for both early-morning coffee and evening happy hour.

This was our fifth vacation ashore in the Bahamas (Compass Cay and Staniel in the Exumas, Long Island, Eleuthera and now Abacos). We found Man-O-War Grocery well-stocked and easily accessible on foot. The marina's new Dock and Dine restaurant was lovely and we enjoyed a couple of meals there. The grocery has great seafood to purchase if you don't catch any and the house has a full kitchen for sautéing conch fritters to grilling out!

Thanks, Karen! We'll be back!

Definitely our favorite vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

All I can say is, we love Man-O-War and Lookout! This was our second time renting Lookout in as many years and our experience was just as incredible, if not more so than last year. Lookout was clean and polished ready for our arrival along with the wonderful caretakers, Lily and Keith. The house has a wonderful view of the harbour and is located in a wonderful spot that is relatively close to town while still maintaining an enjoyable amount of privacy. We rented this year from Rainbow Rentals in Marsh Harbour and traveled all around the Abacos, as far north as Green Turtle Cay and as far south as Little Harbour. We also visited Noname Cay, aka Piggyville, and fed the pigs ---- a must do on your vacation to the Abacos!! I highly recommend Lookout. It has a wonderful dock, great location and incredible sense of community. We have made so many great friends already on our trips to Man-O-War, and our trip to the Bahamas is always a highlight of our year. If you are currently reading my review wondering wether or not this is the place for you and your family, LOOK NO FURTHER. This is 100% the house you want to rent, I promise you will not regret it! One of the things I love about going to the Abacos and specifically Man-O-War is that your vacation is exactly what you make it. Enjoy an adventure, or secluded privacy, maybe even a little bit of both. It's up to you!

Owner's Response: We are so glad to hear that people love our home as much as we do. It is most assuredly a wonderful place to go to restore yourselves and get a break from the hustle and bustle of "real life". Sam and his family love it so much they came back again and enjoyed themselves even more than their first visit. We welcome all you who need a break from the world to come and enjoy our little piece of paradise.

Thankfully some places and people never change!

Man o War remains a beautiful, quiet island with unforgettable blue waters and sunsets !

Both of which could be well taken advantage of from "Lookout"! It is a charming house with tasteful island flair situated on a bluff just outside of town. Great location!

All of the ammenities of home with relaxation built right in. After visiting for 4 years in a row , but having not been back in 22 years we still felt very much at home ! The residents and visitors are so friendly. "Lookout" we'll be back!

A Perfect Getaway for a Family of Four

  • 5 of 5

My family enjoyed spending a week in Man O' War Cay at "Lookout" the week following Christmas. The name corresponds with the awesome view of the harbor where having a dock was great! We rented a golf cart ($200 a week from Albury GC rentals) and a boat(from Island Marine on Parrot Key near Elbow Key) to get around. The people were extremely kind and the island has a great local atmosphere. The beaches are really cool, especially the "Low Point," which our family calls the "Narrows" (there is a beach on both the Sea of Abaco and the Atlantic Ocean side right across from each other). (Also a perfect place to watch the sunset!!) We spent a day snorkeling and ate at the Abaco Inn (located on Elbow Key). We went to Nippers (Great Guana Cay) and the food was good and the beach was beautiful but the atmosphere is not necessarily appropriate for children after 4pm. For scuba diving, we rented gear from Froggies in Hope Town (located on Elbow Key) and you could also rent/ learn from Mike at DiveTime (located on MOW). The caretakers of "Lookout" were super nice and always made sure we had what we needed! The listing description was very accurate, however this property does NOT have air conditioning. Ventilation was not a problem for us though because of the many windows and fans. The property was well- maintained and clean, however could use some updates. For groceries, we went to both Man O' War Grocery and Maxwell's in Marsh Harbor. MOW Grocery was clean and well-stocked, however the prices are pretty high so if you plan to do major shopping-- go to a store in Marsh Harbor prior to coming over to MOW. Both the Hibiscus Cafe and Dock and Dine on MOW were yummy and had good prices. We also enjoyed going to Dips and Sips (an ice cream booth open 12:30pm-3:30pm and 7-9pm and located next to the Hibiscus Cafe) at night. It was cool because it was a local hangout! Definitely a good place to stay when visiting the Bahamas! We will definitely be back next year.

Owner's Response: So glad that Sam and his family had a wonderful time at "Lookout", it is truly a wonderful place to stay and enjoy the Abacos. Our home is a typical Bahamian style house with lots of windows and fans in every room, we always seem to have delightful breezes that keep us comfortable. And the views from the deck are something you will remember always. Our caretakers are very caring people who take the time to make our guests feel welcome and very comfortable. They are happy to help our guests get acquainted with the area and answer all questions you might have. Staying at "Lookout" will be a memorable time and one you will want to come back to.
