About the property

Stay With Us & We'll Send You Home With One-of-a-kind Memories... Old West Style

This home is in the foothills of the beautiful Black Hills, where prairie meets mountains. We built it on a cliff, with a spectacular view. It has log siding, with subtle stone trim, and sits on 7+ acres, overlooking the horse barn and pasture. Our home is licensed and inspected by the state of South Dakota as a legitimate vacation rental.

The wraparound porch invites quality time in the fresh air of the Hills. A garage is included for your vehicle, whether it's 4 wheeled or 2.

While the mountain air cools the house comfortably, central air conditioning is available for those rare hot days; as well as a furnace, should the temp be just a bit too cool.

Offering 3 bedrooms, this home provides plenty of personal and communal space for up to 6 folks. Our rate is based upon double occupancy. Our fee for additional folks is $25/person/night.

About Bob Shedeed

We owned a hardware store for 30 years in Nebraska and decided to retire to the beautiful South Dakota Black Hills. In 1983 we joined the National Senior Pro Rodeo Association. This organization gives you a second chance after the kids are gone and you have worked long enough. Bob accumulated several championships in the NSPRA - 3 in the All-Around, 4 in the Ribbon Roping, and 6 in the calf roping. In 2009 through 2012, he was the World Champion Header in the team roping competition in the 60 plus age group. We also traveled in Canada and received several titles there.

Donna won the titles in Ribbon Roping with Bob - he catches the calf, she grabs the ribbon off the tail, and runs to the finish line. She's won 4 World championships in the All-Around, 3 World titles in Barrel Racing, and Frontier Champion team roping heeler in 2007.

So, after 15 years in this home, we built a second home down the road, to be closer to our big barn and roping arena. We rope every day we possibly can!

Bob Shedeed purchased this house in 2000

Why Bob Shedeed chose South Dakota

This home is in the foothills of the beautiful Black Hills, where prairie meets mountains. We built it on a cliff, with a spectacular view. It has log siding, with subtle stone trim, and sits on 7+ acres, overlooking the horse barn and pasture.

We are centrally located to all that is good in the Black Hills.

What makes this house unique

We built our place on a cliff, overlooking the southwest valley. This one-of-a-kind view includes pasture, hills, our roping arena, and the biggest, bluest sky imaginable.

Oh, and did we mention only 20 minutes from Mt. Rushmore and 15 from Custer State Park?!

It was really fun.

Thank you to Bob and Donna. They made our trip. We were treated with the kindness and generosity that cowboys (and girls) are known for. The log cabin high on the hill is a wonderful stay. There is so much to see and do within a reasonable distance. We were there four nights. We visited Deadwood, Jewell Cave, Mount Rushmore, and Crazy Horse Memorial. Did a lot of hiking in the Badlands, Devil's Tower, and the spires (or needles) in Custer State Park. Driving to the top of Mount Coolidge, highest spot in the the Black Hills, provided amazing views as did all of our hikes. Going to the Wall Drug Store is an adventure, but be wary of the high prices on the hamburgers and ice cream. The chocolate was the best I have ever had and the hamburger was one of the worst. As for Rapid City there are good restaurants and statues of all 42 presidents on the corners of the streets. Be careful where you park. There are many city lots that will hit you for a $25 ticket. That's about it. Sorry we had to leave so soon. Hopefully we will return some day. Regards. MS

Great location and beautiful people.

  • 5 of 5

I'm happy to say that we loved our stay. The house is great. Bob made sure we had everything we needed and checked in on us during our week. The location is close to many of the sights and yet allowed a quiet place to unwind after a busy day.

Thanks

Mark and Dawn

FABULOUS!

  • 5 of 5

Bob and Donna's ranch was GREAT! Two of the nicest people you will ever meet! Centrally located to everything we wanted to see but very private setting--just what we wanted. Spotless! Beautiful views. Be prepared to see some wildlife! First morning there, we had 11 wild turkeys perched on the fence! Just back in IN 10 days & already miss it! Would not hesitate to stay again! We stayed at this property in early June 2016. It was such a cute, tucked away little property. Very quiet and and clean. Bob was great at communicating and we really enjoyed our stay!

VRBO requires us to list under the closest destination town, which is Keystone. However, this home is just outside of the small town of Hermosa. The address is 24687 White Tail Ridge Rd., Hermosa, SD 57744.

Hermosa (meaning "beautiful" in Spanish), is a quaint rural town conveniently located 20 min. from the "big" city of Rapid City, and along the foothills of the Black Hills. Our home is about 1 mile from Hermosa, and less than 1/4 mi. from Highway 40 (we have only about 1/8 mi. of gravel).

Just a mile from Highway 79, we're conveniently located to many attractions in the Black Hills:

15 minutes to Custer State Park

20 minutes to Mt. Rushmore

25 minutes to Rapid City Regional Airport

35 minutes to the Buffalo Roundup

45 minutes to Crazy Horse Memorial

1 hour to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

1 hour, 10 minutes to The Badlands

The second bedroom (12'x10'), upstairs, also includes a queen bed. It shares a full bathroom with the third bedroom. The bathroom is nestled snuggly between both bedrooms.

The third bedroom is in the loft area. A full-sized futon rests in this room, along with a handy desk. A room divider conveniently offers privacy.

Please make our home, garage, and 7 acres your home-away-from-home while exploring the beautiful Black Hills. We will greet you upon check-in, and see you off during check-out. We will be available in between.
