Great stay in a classic Victorian!

  • 5 of 5

The house is pretty spectacular - if you find architectural history interesting, then it's far more interesting than staying in a more modern house. Be sure to check out the photos in the dining room showing some of the interior changes over the decades, to the kitchen in particular. There's clearly a bit of deferred maintenance and some dirty windows, but the price is right and it's totally livable.

There is a lot of room, especially as one of the three upstairs bedrooms has a closet that's big enough to be another bedroom. As other reviews have noted, the downstairs maid's room is remote and unattractive, so particularly if you have kids you may not want to use it. However, there's a small folding bed in the maid's closet - we hauled that mattress upstairs to lay on the floor for our smallest kid, which worked well.

The greeting material mentions a remote door opener for the garage, but we didn't find it. However, there's ample street parking in front of the house, so we didn't miss the garage. Just be careful opening your car doors, as the curb in front of the house is quite high!

The kitchen has the essentials for cooking, but if you plan to make any ambitious meals you may want to bring your own knives and cooking tools.

Beware, the heat is via an in-floor heating unit in the living room with a metal grate which gets quite hot - don't walk with bare feet if the heat is on, or you may end up with burns. We showed it to our small children and made clear to them to avoid walking on it, and they were fine. If your children are less attentive, you might want to turn off the heat or choose another house.

Great home, everything you need, wonderful place for a family

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 3 nights and experienced a wonderful time. Our family consisted of 2 adults and 2 kids and another family joined us which consisted of 2 adults and 1 kid. The house is friendly, open and has everything you need. The rooms are large, the beds comfortable, and the kitchen held all the necessary items to prepare and enjoy meals as a family. The house is decorated but not in a way that you worry about kids breaking items.

The adults could be in the library enjoying a conversation, while the kids were playing in the many other spaces. Lots of towels and linens were provided and the house was immaculate when we arrived.

The directions for the home were easy to understand and we would recommend this home to anyone who is looking to stay in the area.

The house was very nice. All the beds were comfortable and clean.

The entire house was clean and comfortable. The location is away from the central part of town. There were a lot of homeless people and some of the neighborhoods didn't appear to be safe.

Charming and centrally located

  • 5 of 5

Spacious, historical home. Within a half hour of both Trinidad and Ferndale, so you can plan day trips effortlessly. The property was perfect for the seven of us and our two dogs. Kudos to Heidi for being so cordial and helpful. Would highly recommend to everyone.

Beautiful restored historical home in Eureka

  • 5 of 5

We traveled to Eureka to attend my niece's graduation. Instead of a hotel, we thought we'd rent a house from VRBO so there would be a place for the family to sit together. This house is truly amazing. First, it's huge. Much bigger than the photos suggest. There's a large family room, a large living room, a large dinning room, an updated and remodeled huge kitchen with breakfast table and chairs, a laundry room, four large bedrooms, three bathrooms, a unique entry and stairs, and a private patio in back. The home was built in 1884 and it's been restored. It's not hard to imagine yourself in 1884 (except that the kitchen is modern). We felt it a special privilege to stay in an historic home. In fact, we loved it so much we're now looking at the calendar to return later this year. It was perfect for our family to get together.

Owner's Response: We will be so pleased to welcome you back to the Historic Delaney House. This home has spurred so many return visits to our beautiful Victorian seaport. One couple actually named their BABY Delaney! :) Heidi Benzonelli, Owner

Beautiful house, spacious rooms

  • 4 of 5

House was very nice, with spacious rooms, and plenty of room for groups.

How water heater was set too high, could lead to scalding if not careful.

Be careful if you have two groups. When locking the front door, the inner deadbolt handle is not connected to the other deadbolt with keys on the inside and outside. If you lock the inner deadbolt handle, anyone coming back later will not be able to get in. Fortunately, someone heard them when they got back and let them in.
