Awesome Accomodation

  • 5 of 5

My family and I really enjoyed our stay. The house was very large and the downstairs servant's room allowed my father not to have to climb the stairs multiple times each day.

The large bedrooms provided plenty of space for everyone and the kitchen was well stocked with all of the necessary supplies.

I hope that we have a future occasion to book this house.

Great house, great owner

  • 4 of 5

my computer is acting up, so in brief, the house was roomy, the yard great for our dogs and the garage was perfect for our bikes! Heidi, the owner was super helpful and informative. We would rent again without hesitation.

Roomy, comfortable, takes you back in time. Definitely would stay there again.

  • 5 of 5

Heidi was very helpful with booking this house within a few days. There were 7 staying, including my first grandchild. We stayed for 3 nights, rainy and cold most of the time. But the house was warm, roomy and cozy. The kitchen is spacious, the beds comfortable. Had to put up a towel in the master bedroom window. Would definitely stay again when we are in the area.

Owner's Response: I am glad you guys enjoyed your stay. I swear I wonder happens to that bathroom blind? I found it in the closet last time, I will have to go investigate and get something new. Sorry for the free show for the neighbors! You are welcome back any time :) Heidi

Great family history trip!

  • 4 of 5

It's a beautiful home and my dog loved it too! It would be terrific for an extended family trip- plenty of space for everyone.

My only picky comment would be that the lighting for reading at night is pretty dim- but I also imagine that's part of the Victorian experience :) morning light in most of the rooms was amazing for restful reading over our coffee.

Our dog also loved the beaches, boardwalk, and walking around the neighborhood while mom took pictures of all the other houses!

Owner's Response: More reading lamps on their way. I just re-lamped with LED's and wondered how it was going to work out. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in our beautiful Victorian seaport town. Happy Trails! Heidi

Eureka Victorian

  • 3 of 5

Our family of six stayed for 3 days. The house was pleasant, very roomy and the furnace took the chill off the cool evening. Love the star bedroom! While the kitchen was modern it was a little understocked: pasta strainer, rubber spatula, dish clothes, salt and pepper for table use, ice cube trays (we understand the need to turn the ice-cube maker off), and perhaps some sugar packages - would have helped with the larger family gatherings we had. One room had a plastic cover under the sheets which made for sweaty sleeping. But most important - no shades?? Come on! Even the bathrooms lacked shades.

Owner's Response: Hi John, I spent the evening at Hillsdale last night and made a list of utensils that are missing. Sorry for the inconvenience. The master king bedroom has a Tempurpedic Dream Firm mattress system, the mattress cover is a hepa-weave fabric,it is part of the system and a little slick but not plastic. We put the mattress system there because that is where we escape for "staycations". I also realized that someone had removed the sheer window covering in the bathroom, it has been laundered and replaced. I hope you enjoyed you stay in Eureka and on the most photographed street in our city. We take a lot of pride in the hillsdale home and want to assure our guests every needs are always met. Great, Distinguished House!

  • 5 of 5

While I could have done with a little less pink on the exterior, my wife picked this house for its unique Victorian looks. This was our first rental home ever. It was very comfortable for our family of five and we loved all of the little touches. The kitchen was great and highly usable, the whole house was well cleaned and the beds were very nice. There was plenty of space to read in solitude, gather for a family game or meal, or get some work done on the kitchen table. The house is full of nice design touches and some interesting fixtures. The garage was usable and there are garage door remotes you can put in your vehicle. We only used that once when the street in front was full, though.

Heidi was very friendly and helpful, particularly when we had a little ant problem in the kitchen. She took care of that right away. She's obviously proud of her town, and shared some helpful hints including recommending Fern Canyon, which turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip for us. It hadn't been on our radar before I spoke with her. The house made a great home base for exploring the Redwoods, and it certainly helped our family that there were a Costco, WinCo and Target within relatively short driving distance.

The only concern we had was that a couple of the windows needed a little more covering. The front bedroom upstairs had decorative curtains that didn't close on the large window facing the street - we had to throw a blanket over that. The other was a very curious floor-to-chest height window just outside of the master bathroom shower with no covering or even a rod on it. Hello neighborhood! We covered that up as well. Those were very minor concerns, though.

Just as a pointer to those wondering about it, the bed in the servant's quarters downstairs is probably too isolated for kids and too small for many adults. We wound up carrying that upstairs and having our smallest child move in with her older sister for the week. That actually worked out very well.

All in all, we had a great experience and would definitely rent the house again. Thanks Heidi!
