About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom, 2 Baths (Sleeps 2)

This is the classic log cabin (with new kitchen!) you've been looking for. Located in Driggs, Idaho - 45 miles from Jackson Hole and 97 miles from Yellowstone. Sleeps 2 adults in queen bed, and 2 small futons for children. Named by Men's Journal 'the best small town in America'. We also have 'Horseshoe' Cabin' next door - 3 bedroom plus loft - see VRBO #474797.

Perfect for a couple, or small family, artist/writer retreat, honeymoon, bird watching, hiking, kayaking, skiing, fishing, or just enjoy the fresh air.

Colter Cabin is located on 7 acres surrounded by ranches and aspen trees. Views of Grand Targhee ski area and Grand Tetons from the front deck. 25 minute drive to Grand Targhee for great powder skiing and 65 minute drive over the pass to ski in Jackson Hole. Cross-country ski and snowshoe out the front door or on many groomed trails close by.

Great kayaking on the Teton and Snake Rivers and mountain biking in the Big Hole Mountains. Fly-fishing at Leigh Creek, Teton River and Henry's Fork. Hiking out your door in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness. Beautiful Leigh Creek within walking distance. Horseback riding and golf available 5 min. away. Darling town of Driggs with cute restaurants and shops is a 7 mile drive.

Jackson Hole (50 minute drive) is full of art galleries, shopping, museums, restaurants, float trips on the Snake, cross-country and downhill skiing. Idaho Falls and Jackson airports are both 75 minutes away. Yellowstone National Park is 100 miles north - enter at West Yellowstone. Island Park and Henry's Fork, an area of world famous fly fishing, is 40 minutes north.

About Ginger

We bought this cabin as a vacation get away for family and friends. Since then we have had the opportunity to live here full time for a year! We split our time between the cabin, Berkeley and Uruguay. Our family uses the cabins often, so the kitchens are well equipped and the beds are comfy. We love to hike and kayak and cook dinners for the family. We have two grown children who live in San Francisco and Berkeley.

Ginger purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Ginger chose Tetonia

This area of Idaho, Wyoming and Montana is just gorgeous. There are so many beautiful areas to visit - mountains, waterfalls, rivers, fields of wildflowers throughout the summer, great snow all winter - you will want to be outdoors every day. Late spring is the best time to see the animals with their new offspring, and October brings the spectacular golden 'quaking' leaves on the aspen trees.

The most picturesque and lovely place we've ever stayed.

  • 5 of 5

From our first view of Colter Cabin we were smitten! It looks fantastic, is in a beautiful, peaceful location and has everything you need and more. It is cosy, unique, well equipped (best equipped kitchen of anywhere we've ever stayed), comfortable and a home away from home. We wanted somewhere peaceful but within reasonable travelling distance to the Grand Teton national park and Colter Cabin certainly fit the bill. We actually came to the area to elope so we wanted somewhere special and this certainly delivered.

A special thanks as well to Ginger who was quick and helpful with communication and was also happy for us to have wedding pictures taken at the property. They turned out fantastically and even the photographer was very taken with the cabin.

We were very sad when it came to leaving but have both agreed we will return!

Beautiful Cabin in Beautiful Setting

Our stay at the cabin was great! The views and sunsets are amazing. Very remote and private. Did some throwback gaming on the original Xbox. Would definitely stay here again!

We'll be back!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have asked for a better home base for our recent Idaho fly fishing trip. Everything was perfect from the well stocked kitchen to the sleeping arrangements. Loved unwinding on the rear deck after a day of fishing Henry's Fork. Don't miss checking out the little booklet with restaurant recommendations.....the Tai restaurant in Driggs is a great choice. Gonna try to make this trip an annual event

Comfortable and Homey

  • 5 of 5

The Coulter Cabin was an awesome place to stay as we ventured out to discover the beautiful places nearby. It was nice to return to the cabin each day, as if we were coming home! The kitchen had everything we needed to cook, great appliances, all the utensils, great pans, etc.

The thorough information folder left for us recommending restaurants, Huckleberry Milkshakes at the Emporium, etc was perfect. It was a great reference for us to discover our surroundings. We really enjoyed eating dinner on the deck and watching a beautiful sunset over the big Idaho sky. And our favorite restaurant was the Thai restaurant in Driggs. The Bison Pho was outstanding...wish I had some now!

Only one complaint--- no hair dryer! That's an easy fix.

Thanks Ginger for having such a nice place to rent. It's great escape from the city life!

Peace and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Colter Cabin right after we got married for our honeymoon. We were very pleased with the location! It was so very quiet and didn't have to worry about hardly any traffic in the area. We thought we would spend more time in Yellowstone and the Jackson Hole area on the east side of the Tetons, but found so much to do in the little towns and Targhee National Forest on the west side that were so much less congested and relaxing. I would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone who is traveling as a couple or even a couple of kids. The place was very clean and well kept. Thanks for your hospitality!
