Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

Being here reminded me so much of childhood summers spent in lakeside cabins. The cabin is rustic enough that it has a relaxing simplicity to it, with enough modern amenities for perfect comfort no matter what the weather. Our family of four (and our dog) enjoyed the use of the waterfront- canoeing, kayaking, catching sunfish around the dock, swimming, watching the loons and enjoying the views.

We also enjoyed family walks down a nearby dirt road, which was bursting with blossoms from raspberry and blackberry bushes. We came in late spring and I can't imagine what a paradise this place must be with everything that ripens in the summer; we picked tiny little wild strawberries but the property also has an apple tree, a plum tree, and high bush blueberries.

We're already seeing how we can wrangle our budget to come back another year, hopefully in the summer!

Simply wonderful!

We really enjoyed our time at this cabin. It’s simple, yet has everything you need including WiFi. Plenty of room, clean, and Kelly is super great to work with! The location is quiet, and the beach/waterfront area is just beautiful! Our family had a great vacation there and we were all sad to leave. We will be back next year!

Relaxing by the Lake

  • 5 of 5

First time staying in Maine -- just because we've never done it before. Rustic but very well kept. Took our schnauzers with us and they enjoyed it as well. Caught one little fish off the dock. I'm not a fisherman so it was a thrill. Fish was too small and chances of me catching more was nil so released it back to the water. Enjoyed canoeing on the lake. It has been 50 years since I was last on a canoe. On one occasion the wind caught me off-guard and I was struggling to get back to shore. Fortunately a friendly power-boater came to my rescue. But why are there no sail boats of the lake? I never was able to see one anywhere in the area -- that would have been the ultimate thrill. With over 600 acres of lake that would have been a delight.

Our final day it rained all day. It was raining when we got up in the morning (sunrise is especially early on the east coast) and it rained until the wee hours of the next morning, But we just relaxed on the deck and enjoyed the quiet. That evening we feasted on a couple 2lb lobsters cooked on the grill.

If you stay here you've got to hit the local food truck in Lee for the most marvelous lobster rolls.

All in all it was a delightful stay. When you're retired you can do anything you want. When you're retired and on vacation you don't have to do anything.

We stayed at the cabin for Christmas 2017. It was delightful. There was a snow storm but the driveway was cleared first thing in the morning.

We were visiting grandchildren and plan to return.

Great fall, summer, and spring vacation destination. Silver Lake is a spring fed lake located in the small rural town of Lee. The cottage is tucked into a quiet cove of the lake and is surrounded by hills. Local mixed deciduous forests provide colorful fall foliage viewing mid-September to mid-October. For those of you looking for a place to spend your days relaxing at the lake floating on a tube, paddling a canoe, sailing, swimming, fishing, or hanging out on the dock and deck, this is the place for you.

For those who wish to explore northern natural areas in the middle of a working forest, there are hundreds of miles of gravel logging roads and structured ATV trails to explore by auto, mountain bike, or ATV. For those who delight in taking day excursions to places of interest, this area is central to historical landmarks and recreational sites such as the Black Mansion and Kings Landing; state and national parks such as Baxter State Park, Acadia National Park, and Roosevelt Campobello International Park; the Canadian border provides exploration to the North; and there are also extensive Maine coastal regions.

This area is also a popular location for hunting and fishing enthusiasts. The gin-colored waters of this spring-fed lake hold bass, pickerel, white perch, and ice out trophy brook trout. These varied species of fish support a healthy loon population. For the hunting enthusiast, there is moose hunting by lottery, bear, deer, partridge and duck hunting. There is open season on coyotes year-round.

WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE: Lee Post Office, Local general store, Restaurant, Hiking Mount Jefferson, Lee Historical Society with the Lee Museum housing a large collection including Civil War artifacts, a piece of the Hindenburg, a birch bark canoe, many antiques, and a horse drawn hearse and Mallet Hall Museum a restored hotel with tours by appointment and the location of public Baked Bean suppers.

looking forward to meeting you!

Kelly and Mike
