About Ben & Elaine Pearson

Ben & Elaine have lived in this house 28 years, since their children were small. Ben is a filmmaker, photographer and musician. Throughout the years Ben has filmed and photographed numerous musicians in his studio including Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith and Rich Mullins to name a few. Elaine is an L&D nurse at Centennial Medical Center. They love to travel and have gone to many unusual places in the world. Ben worked with Compassion International,World Vision and Food for the Hungry for years so his passport is peppered with numerous barely known third world counties.

Ben & Elaine Pearson purchased this house in 1990

Why Ben & Elaine Pearson chose Belmont/Hillsboro

We chose this home primarily because Ben came here to shoot album covers and we are only blocks from music row. We love it here and expect that it will be in the family for generations. Most of the must see spots are less than a 10 min drive without even getting on the interstate. It is walking distance from Belmont University for any families wishing to check it out or attend graduation. It is perfect for a family reunion, college reunion, groups coming to attend a wedding. Many houses advertise that they can sleep 10-12 but this house can do that without taking away the large common areas used to gather and celebrate. Walking to 12 excellent restaurants from our front door is a bonus since sometimes it's nice to not deal with traffic and parking. We love hosting here, it's so inviting!

What makes this house unique

This 100 year old house with it's classic layout and high ceilings lets you breathe, relax, pause and reflect. Life goes by too fast. There are fun little corners to explore. Many people have said it reminds them of their grandma's house. built in 1916 there are many unique features that just aren't seen in houses built after the 1940's. In spite of it's age this house is energy efficient and is cool in summer and warm in winter thanks to our Geothermal water furnace. Take time to just be. Selah...

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great home, setting and location, would certainly return to Selah House

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Selah house is a great place to gather family / friends if you’re staying in the Nashville area. We comfortably had six adults and two children staying there for four nights. During our stay we were easily able to entertain twelve adults and five children both for a delightful brunch and an evening get together. Ben and Elaine have beautifully appointed this 1920’s style house with furnishings, pictures and items of interest that truly make it a wonderful home. We said to ourselves many times during our stay what a great place this must have been to raise a family. Every room is spacious and comfortable providing a nice balance of personal privacy and plenty of room for gathering. The little “play nook” upstairs was great for our “under five year old crowd” to spend several hours of enjoyment for them and allow adult time for the parents. There are no laundry facilities in the home but a laundromat is close by, so pack accordingly. One of our favorite places in the home is the little breakfast nook off of the intimate, but well stock, kitchen which we found to be a great place to start our day. The home is perfectly placed in the 12 South area of Nashville which allowed us to walk to many of the great restaurants in the area, (Jenis ice cream is a must) and a grocery store is close by for last minute items. Overall we would certainly stay at Selah House again and if you enjoy staying in a very well furnished and maintained early 20th century home, then this is the place for you.

Wonderful home!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful large home. Great location. We were able to have our entire family stay together for our visit to Nashville. Ben and Elaine were very accommodating and had some initial provisions in the fridge to help start our vacation. Would highly recommend.

Great spot for Vanderbilt reunion

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed staying at Ben and Elaine’s place. The house is in a perfect location. The front and back porches are great for relaxing in nice weather. Inside of the house has unique and charming decor. The bedrooms are all a good size, and the A/C and WiFi worked great. Nice kitchen and common areas too. Ben and Elaine are kind and responsive hosts as well. Can’t ask for much more than that!
