About Tim Mercer
Tim Mercer works in London and lives with his wife, Samantha and two children. Tim spent the first 20 years of his life in North Cornwall and has many happy childhood memories of the beautiful beach at Crackington Haven.
Tim Mercer purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Tim Mercer chose Saint Gennys
We bought the cottage to be near to family in Cornwall, to use as a home for family holidays and for surfing with our two young boys.
What makes this Cottage unique
Naturally I am biased but I do believe the bay at Crackington is one of the most beautiful on the Cornish coast and an absolute delight for children. The cottage is gorgeous and in a great location for exploring all of Cornwall. Rain or shine, we always leave feeling refreshed and rested.

Very comfortable cottage in a good location
The cottage is compact but very comfortable with everything you might need. It is clean, well maintained and warm. The owner and his local team were very helpful and welcoming. Unlike a previous recent reviewer, we had no problem with beds or hot water. The cottage is in an area with plenty to do and see for all ages, with even more not a huge journey away. We had a great lunch on the doorstep in Crackington Haven, another in Watergate Bay, another in Fowey and an indulgent cream tea in Mevagissey. All walked off along stunning coastline and in beautiful countryside. We will be back.
Wonderful cosy break
Lovely clean and characterful cottage, excellent info from Tim was provided. Everything you need apart from a washing machine. Will definitely return, thanks Tim.
The property was very cosy and quaint exactly what we were expecting.
On the plus side it was warm and nicely done out with everything you needed. On the negative side I stayed only 2 nights due to the beds being absolutely horrendous so uncomfortable. I was awake on the Sunday night in tears with the pain in my hip and shoulder. My husband suggested buying a blow up mattress for the next night, which we did but even this did not help so reluctantly I came home on the Tuesday. My husband remained until Thursday. Also the hot water ran out very quickly so ended up having tepid baths.
We have always placed particular emphasis on the comfort of our beds and bedding and have never, ever received a single complaint in this regard. Most comment upon the comfort of the beds with many regular visitors returning year after year for “a good nights’ rest”. We sincerely regret that this guest says that all beds at the cottage, including their own mattress, did not resolve their hip/shoulder condition. We are however heartened that the guest’s husband, unaffected by the beds, was able to enjoy a longer stay.
A real shame that this guest did not contact us at the time. I am certain we would have been able to help.
Very cute & comfortable cottage
We very much enjoyed our stay. It's a cute and comfortable cottage, perfect for the two of us. It's well stocked with books and together with the floor heating made it super comfortable on days that it wasn't too great outside. Crackington Haven is nearby and provides an awesome beach and gorgeous cliff walks.
Really nice cottage
Cosy cottage everything you need to stay there and a nice area
We loved our stay
We totally enjoyed our one week stay at the cottage. It was warm and inviting, had all that we needed and was so well placed to all the places we wanted to see.
We can also recommend the Cabin Cafe for a BBQ steak and The Combe Barton Inn as two local great eating places. Further afield we enjoyed the Port William pub.
There are many nearby places to visit and, of course, the coastal path walking is excellent. Walks (there are two) from the cottage to The Haven are great so, you can easily walk down and enjoy a drink and meander home.
Tim was amazing and helped us with all our small and large questions.
Can totally recommend at stay.
