About this property
Delightful retreat, 3 mins walk to Widemouth Bay blue flag beaches & coast path
The Summerhouse is a retreat specifically designed and fully equipped for holidays by the sea all year round. Our guests tell us The Summerhouse is 'home from home' and perfect for couples, friends and families. The property benefits from a light airy open plan living on the ground floor encompassing a dining, kitchen and lounging area. Large sliding doors open onto a secure, private courtyard where you can play, sunbathe, BBQ, eat, drink or relax with a book to the sound of the waves breaking. There are two attic bedrooms, one double and one twin which provide a cozy sleeping environment. The ceilings are low though! The shower room is on the ground floor off the entrance hall. Your parking is off road on a shared private drive.
The property is conveniently situated in a private lane just 3 mins walk from Widemouth Bay's two fabulous Blue Flag and seaside award beaches, this being the Gold Standard for beaches internationally, popular with families, surfers, walkers and sunbathers. The village has two fantastic pubs, village farm shop which sells fantastic fresh fish and locally grown and reared produce, a fish and chip shop, as well as two beach cafe's providing you with all the Cornish cream teas and ice creams you might fancy and all within walking distance.
Widemouth is situated on the South West Coast path and is a great base for exploring Cornwall on land or sea, by wave, foot, car or bike in any season.
We make every effort to run the Summerhouse in an ecologically sustainable way. The house itself is largely timber framed and utilises insulation manufactured from recycled fibres. This insulation is highly effective meaning that very little heating is required.
We recycle as much as possible, the hand wash, washing up liquid and detergent bottles are refilled with eco-friendly products to avoid waste. We ask that you do not throw away any of these bottles when empty or as you are leaving as we will wash and refill them.
In the bathroom you will find shampoo, conditioner, body wash and handwash from ‘Faith in nature’, an eco-friendly company specialising in products with low environmental impact. We wash and refill the bottles so we ask that you do not take them home with you or discard them.
We are trying to discourage the use of cheap plastic body boards. Cheap body boards are prone to breaking, wasting your money and polluting the environment. 600 discarded boards were collected from Bude last year. Instead we provide wooden boards to use. Our boards are seconds that would have gone to waste and were donated by a local manufacturer or are old donated boards that we have renovated, some date back to the early 1960s. We promise you’ll love to give them a go!!
If you prefer a more modern bodyboard you will also find foam boards for your use. These are higher end products than the cheap ones on sale in beach shops and have been in use for 20 years. We would encourage you to use these rather than waste your money on cheap polystyrene ones which often find their way into landfill sites.
We also provide wetsuits and other beach supplies for you to use during your stay. As with boards this is an attempt to save you money (particularly children’s suits which they will have grown out of by the next holiday) and reduce waste. We cannot guarantee that there will be a size to fit you but there is a pretty good range, so if you can find one that fits feel free to use it instead of buying or renting one!

Other things to note
Due to Covid 19 we are still implementing some additional measures which we will keep updating in line with government and Vrbo guidance:
- The property is cleaned before and after your stay with recommended virucidal products EN 14476 compliant

About the host
Hosted by Nicola and Bob Booth

As a family we are fortunate enough to live and work in this beautiful part of the country, and take full advantage of all it has to offer. Whether it be surfing, shopping, cycling, walking the coastal path or crab lining in Bude there is always something to keep the family happy. We have lived in the village since 2006 and have been welcomed into the very friendly local community and envisage staying here forever.
In 2012 we decided to build the Summerhouse so that we could share this beautiful village with others. The Summerhouse shares a drive with our family home Elanora so we're always on hand if you need us.
We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do.

Why they chose this property
We fell in love with Widemouth Bay whilst on holiday in the late 1990s and it took until 2006 to realise our dream of moving here to raise our family.
The Summerhouse allows us to spend as much time as we can in the village we love.

What makes this property unique
We built The Summerhouse and as such have put a great deal of ourselves into it.
That's why we love it!
