A Little Bit of Heaven

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 5 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 2-13)

'A Little Bit of Heaven' is a beautiful secluded vacation home nestled in the Smoky Mountains close to gem mining, The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, wonderful waterfalls, and antiquing.

This home has a view from the deck that will take your breath away in the day and leave you awe struck at night. The distant lights of the town of Franklin can be enjoyed every evening from the deck. This property has wonderful country roads to enjoy a hike after dinner yet is close and easy to get to.

We built this home with vacation in mind. Lots of room for the whole gang. Enough parking for everyone. Although there is plenty to do in the surrounding area, you can spend your whole vacation and never leave the mountain.

There is entertainment for the whole family. Pool table and ping pong. Dinner on the deck is one of our favorite activities. Come find out what the Great Smokey Mountains are famous for!

About The Owner

A not quite retired couple who truly believe that the mountains of Western North Carolina is God's country

Why The Owner chose Franklin

In the late 70's we helped our parents build their first NC Mountain home in Robinsville. After my father-in-law passed away we encouraged Mom to sell the Robinsiville home. It only took us a few years to realize how much we missed the beautiful NC Mountains. We decided that we were always taking day trips from remote Robinsville to Franklin where it seemed everything was happening. It only made sense to build the next house in the beautiful quaint town of Franklin. We took the plans from the original house and expanded it and made it a true NC home. We designed it to accommodate our own family reunions. There is plenty of space for the whole gang and lots to do right at the house or in the surrounding area. Our view will knock your socks off and secluded enough that you feel like you are the only ones on the mountain. We never intended to rent our home so this home is a little nicer than most, with Corian counter tops and upgraded appliances. We decided to share it with others as it was a shame to not have it used until we can be up there full time.

What makes this house unique

Our favorite activities at our 'Little Bit of Heaven' is: Eating meals out on the deck and watching the sun set. Taking walks after dinner on the quiet road in front of the house.

I love challenging what ever guests or family to a game of pool in the evening. I must say my personal favorite is to wait until everyone has gone to bed and sit out on the deck and watch the lights of the town of Franklin. It is so quiet and the solitude is indescribable!!

We also like going to 'Picking on the Square' on Saturday nights in Franklin. We love going white water rafting on the Nantahala. Our goal is to learn to Fly Fish in the local streams. We also like finding new places to hike and my personal favorite is to photograph all the cool waterfalls in the area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Mike and Nancy,

Thank you very much for opening your Smokey Mountain home to our family. It truly is a little bit of Heaven! We loved it.... the view, the location, rooms & their décor, and the gameroom, as well.

We had a blast too! Thank you for all of your advice and suggestions. We found about 60 carats in sapphires and rubies! The Boiler Room and Fun Factory also huge hits with the kids!

We really hope to return someday!

Thank you again,

P.S. We loved the hummingbirds!!

Truly “A Little Bit of Heaven”!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful home spoke to our souls the moment we first set foot in it. Nestled on a mountainside, it has a lovely deck where we sat every morning and most evenings. The view is lovely and ever changing, and sipping our first cup of coffee while the mists rose from the mountains was something to which we looked forward each day. Our son was the grill chef, and we had every dinner at the house (it has the best equipped kitchen we have ever enjoyed in a vacation home), although there was so much to do during the daytime that the two weeks we spent in Franklin just sped by. Highlands, Waya Bald, climbing up to Clingmans Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, visiting Biltmore in nearby Asheville, going gem mining, white water rafting on the Nantahala, and spending the day at the Franklin Folk Festival were just a few of the highlights of our visit. Also, the living accommodations were super-comfortable, and the decor reflected the love with which this house was put together.

Needless to say, we’re hoping to come back, maybe for a Fall visit, someday soon.

Your place is very nice and clean and the view of the mountains is amazing.

The house is equipped with everything you need and more from nice towels to plenty of plates and silverware, salt, sugar, syrup, etc. It is 10 minutes to the supermarket and there are plenty of waterfalls and walking trails within a short drive. We loved water tubing at Deep Creek with the kids.

Nancy is a great host and answers all of your questions and concerns very quickly. I do have to mention that getting into the driveway requires some driving skills and nerves but my 80+yr old mother-in-Law was able to master it after a couple of times.

I would highly recommed this place to any family with kids or teenagers. They also enjoyed the ping pong and pool tables.

Truly a "Big Bit of Heaven!"

  • 5 of 5

This property is simply gorgeous! From the minute we walked in we felt right at home. There is everything you will need to enjoy yourself. Plenty of dishes, pots and pans and cabinets are full of spices, coffee filters, and little things you don't want to bring or buy. Bathrooms are spacious and have plenty of towels. The views are AMAZING! All light switches have labels on them so you don't have to try to figure out which one turns on which light. Games, puzzles, books, plus the pool table and ping pong table will keep you happy while there but there is plenty to do around town and surrounding areas. Simply the best!

A whole lot of heaven!

  • 5 of 5

Our party consisted of 9 people and we all had plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy this home. The kitchen was very well stocked and the beds were comfortable. We had plenty of towels and the pool table and ping pong table as well as the games kept us all entertained in the evening after the sun set and we came in off the porch. The views from the deck were spectacular! Very peaceful setting! Quiet and restful. The drive to the many local sights and activities is short and beautiful. We would recommend the drive between Franklin and The Highlands! Very beautiful along the way and a very nice town to visit. The rafting and zip line trip with Wildwater- Nantahala Gorge Canopy Tour out of Bryson was amazing! We were a little freaked out by the driveway at first but got used to it after a bit. We enjoyed the wildlife and would come back again in a heartbeat! Thanks for sharing your home with us!

Nice big house with all required amenities and yes a breathtaking view.

  • 5 of 5

We liked the property a lot. We had a good time and enjoyed our stay. We found everything we need there starting from kitchen utentils, enough entertainment sources, laundry stuffs etc. the view from the patio is fascinating though we could only have a peep of it due to cloudy and foggy weather, but hey we are on the smokies right. I will bring attention to two things which need to be thought well though. Firstly, We had hard time get our 15 seater van in the parking space. The road from the main street to infront of the house was quite challenging for the drivers to be able to park it properly. That too if its pitch dark. We reached at midnight and had hard time to park the van. Next day it was even worse and the van got in such a position that we had to call the towing people. Secondly, the phone was not working so we could not let the driver in remotely and had to walk about 15/20 mins in pitch dark to go and open the main gate. It was such a bad experience for us. So just make sure that you know what to do if you have a oversize transport and need to drive it in a challenging steep road to park it. There were literally no lights on the street and you would find it quite a challenge to do this job if its after sunset. Apart from that our stay at this piece of heaven was awesome. Definitely would recommend anyone planning a trip out there and need a vacation home.

Owner's Response: I am so glad you found our home as advertised. Most of my guests love the ever changing morning view from the deck. It is almost like watching a very calming movie as one mountain top appears and another one disappears only to reappear only minutes later. I am sorry about your oversized vehicle. When ever someone lets me know ahead of time that they have an unusually big form of transportation I give them special instructions on where to park it. I have guests with motorcycle trailers that come to tour the mountains on their bikes and I have special instructions for them, but they always let me know ahead of time if this is there first trip. I wish you would have let me know about the phone so I could have gotten the phone company out to fix it right away. I can't fix it if I don't know it is not working. We love our home and want our guests to love it as much as we do.
