Sage Cottage is in the heart of the Bitterroot Valley, close to hiking and biking trails and a scenic drive. It is less than 10 miles from the Bitterroot River. Our garden has over 38 bird species that guests are welcome to enjoy.

When you book with us for short- or long-term stays, utility costs like electricity, garbage, and Wi-Fi are all included.

Bill and I steam clean the floors and sanitize and polish all surfaces between each stay. We are proud of our sparkling-clean rating.

The kitchen is equipped with dishes, silverware, and utensils, as well as an electric stove/oven, a full-size refrigerator, an instant pot, a microwave, a coffee maker, an espresso machine, a coffee grinder, a toaster, cookbooks, and pantry supplies. It is tiled with an Italian ceramic backsplash. We have our hand-blown glass drawer pulls (blown by Bill in our blown glass studio) on the cabinetry and a touch of our art throughout the Cottage. When building this Cottage, we had fun adding our artwork to it.

A washer and dryer with complimentary, natural laundry soap is just off the kitchen.

The bedroom is warm and inviting, with a comfortable queen-sized bed and bedding, latté colored walls, espresso lamps, and chocolate blackout curtains. Along with the 40" smart TV, it has a writing desk equipped with writing paper, Sage Cottage postcards, coloring pages for the young and young at heart, and colored pencils.

The living room has a futon that folds into a queen-size bed for extra guests. The dining room table features tall chairs, allowing you to see the windows better and enjoy the views. A smart TV on the wall between the living room and kitchen swivels to be watched from either the living room or the kitchen.

The full-size bath comes with complimentary soaps and shampoos. It includes an inviting tub with pebbled beach tile on the floor, Tuscan-type tiles on the walls, and a lighted makeup mirror. A linen closet in the bath supplies extra towels and linens. Our hand-blown glass drawer pulls on the cabinetry add to the artistic elegance.

This Cottage has a private driveway for our guests and a front entrance with a digital keypad on the door for self-check-in.

360-degree views can be enjoyed from this location, with the kitchen window looking out to the Bitterroot Mountains and the living room windows providing an idea of the Sapphire Mountain range. Feel free to stroll in the surrounding gardens in the spring and summer. If you would like a tour of our gardens or workshops, let us know, and we would be happy to show you around. Our Cottage is located overlooking the town of Hamilton on part of a farm over 100 years old. Some of the lands are still actively used for farming.

When we designed this house, we added Wi-Fi connectivity to two flat screens and smart TVs, allowing guests to watch complimentary Netflix and network channels. It also features a wireless sound bar that connects to handheld devices or laptops, allowing users to stream music. Additionally, music can be streamed through either a smart TV.

Outside, behind the Cottage, is a hot tub with spectacular views of Montana's big sky. Relax and watch the clouds roll by during the day or the stars at night.

Our home is nearby, and we love meeting guests, but we also respect their privacy. We are full-time artists and work out of several shops on our property. We are happy to show our guests our workspaces, but only if they request it. We respect their privacy and understand that some guests prefer to relax and enjoy the place by themselves.

This lovely little Cottage has a private driveway. Enjoy the views of the Sapphire Mountains from the porch or the Bitterroot Mountains from the fire pit in the privacy yard.

Sage cottage was a wonderful place for our family with two small kids to stay. Bill and Rae are wonderful hosts and the property and view is amazing. Our daughter loved the chickens and fairy gardens. We would recommend staying here to any of our friends and family.

What a wonderful and relaxing experience we had at the Sage Cottage 406. Bill and Rae are top notch hosts. The extra touch of a created card for our anniversary and a vase of handpicked flowers was deeply appreciated. The cottage has all the amenities needed for a home away from home with extra of a hot tub. The grounds are picturesque with scenery and nature all around the cottage. We appreciated the opportunity to pick fresh raspberries for breakfast too. We had some business to accomplish on the trip but the free time at the cottage was definitely the highlight of a great getaway.

We enjoyed the beautiful views and gorgeous setting facing the Bitteroot Mountains. Hosts were so friendly and helpful and gracious. The cottage was immaculate and had many extra thoughtful items for a carefree visit. Kitchen was well stocked and had coffee and cream already there. One month at Sage Cottage

Sage Cottage was the perfect “base camp” for our winter vacation in the Bitterroot Valley. It is a very comfortable cottage with all the amenities one needs. Rae and Bill are wonderful hosts and quick to respond to any questions or needs. The cottage is very clean, with beautiful views from the kitchen windows. It is a quiet retreat. And, the hens are friendly and there are quiet a few birds around. It was a wonderful experience. thank you Rae and Bill!!

Excellent quiet place for July 4th

We booked on VRBO, and the response and confirmation was prompt, and it provided all the info we needed. The cottage or small house, was new, very clean, had nice views, and it had all the amenities. It's also private and quiet, even though the owner live nearby on the site. The communication was excellent and the place was very comfortable. I would highly recommend it to a couple or single traveler. It was much nicer than staying at a hotel, and it was only about 12 minutes from Hamilton. It's on the east edge of the valley, but it's not up in the hills.

Perfect!! Fantastic place

We loved our stay here. The property is immaculate and spacious - and very relaxing and peaceful. The view of the Bitteroot Mountains is breathtaking, and the night sky view of the stars and Milky Way are the best we’ve seen, especially when viewed from the hot tub! It was lovely waking up in the morning, admiring the view, watching the chickens and listening out for the elk. This place is such good value for money - cheaper than many motel rooms, but there is no comparison! What really made our stay here so good were the hosts - Rae and Bill. They made us feel so welcome, you could tell that they really wanted to share their property with us, and we feel that we come away making new friends. Make sure to look out for their beautiful glass artwork around the garden! We left with very fond memories, and really do hope to return again one day, thank you for everything!

Great cottage

We (a party of two) have been for one week in July 2020. Everything is as described on the internet site. The WiFi internet connection really worked and we could connect our laptop computer and talk using Skype. The property is well designed, very clean and well maintained. There is a functional kitchen (stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator/freezer, dishes/cooking utensils, etc.). The full-bathroom has toilet/shower/bathtub/sink. There is a washer/dryer in the bathroom. We could park our car just in front of the entrance. The owners made significant efforts to transform our vacation into a wonderful experience. We hope to come back again.

Absolutely Wonderful!!

My husband and I would recommend this cottage to anyone! The scenery, beautiful cottage and breathtaking adventures made for a wonderful week! The homeowners live on the same property but the only time we saw them was when we introduced ourselves at their booth at the Hamilton Farmers Market. They were more than willing to do anything for us. However the cottage didn't need a thing. As we arrived there was a notebook there with maps of hikes in the Bitterroots! We did 3 of them. Also with a relative that worked in the copper mines we found the Daly Mansion Tour very interesting and well worth the $$. Thank you Grouts for sharing your beautiful cottage with us! Delightful spot

Watching lighting move across the Bitterroot Valley. Laying in the hot tub following the Milky Way spinning. Yeah, this spot is sweet. Nice cozy cabin. Well equipped kitchen. Modern bathroom. All that and short drives to spectacular hiking. We stayed 5 nights and were not ready to leave! Bill and Rae are delightful hosts with good tips and interesting history. Five stars all around.

Lovely cottage in the Bitterroot Valley

This is such a wonderful, well-appointed cottage, and it was a perfect place for my wife and me to stay during our visit to the Bitterroot Valley. The owners' care for the place is evident in the artistic details built into the cottage and all the thoughtful items provided to guests, from condiments and hiking maps to a washer/dryer for laundry. And a hot tub! It's so glorious to take a soak after a long day hiking in the mountains. We definitely will come back the next time we're in the area.

Our “Welcome Home”

Sage Cottage was the best welcome to our new home in Montana we could have asked for. We spent several months at Sage Cottage as we moved from Florida to Montana and couldn’t be more grateful for our lovely welcome to our new home town. From day one, to the end of our stay a few weeks ago, we were pleased with what we received. The cottage was well stocked with all essentials needed, and several comforts as well. We were not left wanting or needing anything. The cottage stayed warm throughout the winter, and we even had elk pursuing through the yard one night! The chickens kept us laughing through our first winter in a decade, and the clean hot tub healed our aches from day trips skiing and hiking. The nearby calves welcomed the spring and were a joy to watch! Rae and Bill welcomed us and our family with their knowledge while providing us with privacy throughout our several months stay. We couldn’t have asked for more. We already miss it! Don’t hesitate on this amazing cottage with some of the best views and easy access to hikes around!

Quaint Cottage, Wonderful Hosts, Stunning Setting

My wife, baby, and I loved our time at this wonderful little cottage in the beautiful Bitterroot Valley. The house has everything you need plus a hot tub with a great view of the Big Sky at night. The hosts add a lot of fun little local extras, and clearly a lot of TLC, in the house to make the experience that much better. My wife and I spent most of our time just sitting on the lawn, reading a book, and soaking up the scenery. But if you want to explore the cute little downtown you are only 15 minutes away. This Montanan trip was one of the best domestic ones we have ever taken and this little cottage is the perfect way to experience “God’s Country.”

We are full-time artists with extensive backgrounds in the high-tech industry, which enables us to handle the technical aspects of our artwork and glass blowing. We love to incorporate science into our functional art pieces.

Our small organic farm overlooks the Bitterroot Mountains, and several buildings are dedicated to our work-from-home lifestyle. The Steampunk Shop is Rae's creative space; the Torch Shop is where we blow our glass; the Big Shop is for general mad science and Bill's electronics lab. Outside, we have a telescope with astrophotography set up, where we take deep-space photos of the night sky.

We warmly invite guests to experience our artistic life firsthand by touring our shops and learning about the inner workings of our creative process.

Since 1993, our work has been a labor of love. We produce glass art, including hand-blown contemporary marbles and Pixie Orb ornaments. Each piece is a testament to our dedication and personal touch, inviting you to connect with our creations.
